Why is there no Internet access when distributing Internet from a phone to a laptop?

Why does it say “Connected without access” or “No Internet access” when distributing the Internet from a phone to a laptop?

If a laptop or PC sees an access point from a phone, but when connected, it says that there is no access to the Internet, one of the following problems may be the cause.

Mobile internet not working

Before trying to find the reason for the lack of access, you need to check if the mobile Internet is working at all. To do this, you need to go to the browser from your phone, refresh the feed on the social network, or try to start a video on YouTube. If everything works, then the problem lies in something else.

The operator restricts the distribution

Most often, when trying to distribute the Internet from a phone, a user encounters this problem if distribution is not provided for in his tariff plan. This means that when the access point is activated, the cellular operator blocks access to the Internet. There are two ways to solve this problem:

  1. Try to bypass the lock (there are separate instructions for advanced users).
  2. Connect the distribution in your personal account on the website or in the application of a mobile operator for an additional cost.

Bluetooth enabled

Turning on Bluetooth on your phone and/or laptop may interfere with your Internet connection. For the connection to work properly, it must be disabled on both devices.

Interfering with antivirus software

An antivirus program (built-in or third-party) is running on a computer or laptop, which can restrict access if it considers the phone’s access point suspicious and unverified. To solve this problem, you must temporarily disable your antivirus or remove it from your computer.

Malware on the phone

Viruses on a mobile device may also prevent access to the Internet when the hotspot is activated. To fix this problem or exclude it from the list of possible problems, you need to check the contents of your phone with an antivirus. If the scan did not help, you can try resetting your mobile device to factory settings.

Operational failure on the phone

You may not be able to access the internet due to a glitch on your phone. For example, a user got root rights and accidentally deleted some system file, the last software update was not installed completely, or the software has not been updated at all for a long time.

These problems are solved:

  1. By updating the software through the phone settings or the official website of the manufacturer.
  2. Reset phone to factory settings .

No internet access on computer/laptop

First way

Sometimes problems with distributing Wi-Fi from the phone appear because Internet access is denied on the laptop itself. You can fix this yourself by following the instructions below:

  1. First you need to open the “Control Panel” (it can be found through the search bar on your computer), select the “Network and Internet” section, and then “Network and Sharing Center”.
  2. On the left side of the window, click “Change adapter settings”.
  3. After that, you need to find your wireless connection, right-click on it and select “Properties”.
  4. In the “Access” tab, you need to check the first item from the top and in the “Home network connection” line, select the wireless network with a number at the end.

After that, it is advisable to restart the laptop and the Wi-Fi connection on the phone.

Second way

If the first method did not help, you should try to restart access. To do this, uncheck the box “Allow other users to use this computer’s Internet connections” and click “OK”. Then check the box again, select a wireless connection and save.

Access settings

Another small tweak that might fix the problem. On the same “Access” tab from the previous instructions, you must click the “Settings” button. A new window will open in which you need to find the “DNS server” item and check the box next to it, and then click “OK”.

home network

If a laptop that does not have Internet access is on a home network, you need to log out of it, restart the device and try to connect again.

Old Wi-Fi adapter driver

You will not be able to access the Internet from the Wi-Fi of the phone if the Wi-Fi adapter driver on the laptop is too old or inappropriate. It must be updated manually or with the appropriate driver update software, such as DriverHub.
