How to see iPad battery status from iPadOS

The simplest solution to see the iPad battery status is to access the Battery section of iPadOS, from which you can find out the level of the last charge, discover the apps that consume the most and view other battery-related activities.

To proceed, then access the iPadOS Settings by tapping on the gear icon on the Home screen and press on the Battery item visible in the sidebar on the left. In the new screen that appears, if you have not already done so, you can move the lever relating to the Battery percentage option from OFF to ON , in order to show the percentage of charge in the iPadOS status bar.

Also, in the Battery section , you can view when you last charged your iPad and the level of charge reached (expressed as a percentage). Using the Battery level graph , on the other hand, you can find out what the charge level of your iPad has been in the last 24 hours and possibly see how many times you have charged it (each charge is indicated by the lightning bolt icon or by a green mark placed near the time slot).

The Activity box allows you to know the activity status of your iPad during the day, also indicating when and for how long the device screen has been on and off. Finally, in the Battery usage by app section , all the apps you have used in the last 24 hours and their battery consumption are listed. By pressing on the item Show activity , you can also view how long you have used a specific application (including the use in the background) and, consequently, understand what is the relationship between consumption and use.

Please note that you can also view this information by time slot, in order to understand which application has consumed the most battery in a specific time. To understand better, let’s take a practical example: if, comparing the Battery Level and Activity graphs, you noticed a drop in battery charge at a specific time despite normal activity, you can press on the time slot indicated in one of the two graphs to view which applications you have. used in those 60 minutes and its consumption.

As I have already mentioned in the previous lines of this guide, all the data visible in the Battery screen refers to the last 24 hours. However, by pressing on the Last 10 days tab you can get a wider overview and view the same data over a longer period.

From the Battery section of iOS, by pressing on the Battery status option , you can see the iPhone battery status and obtain information on the maximum battery capacity, i.e. the current battery capacity value in relation to when it was new. Unfortunately, however, this information is not currently available on iPadOS but can be easily “recovered” using one of the software that allows you to see iPad battery status from Mac .

Furthermore, in the Battery screen of the iPad and iPhone, the charging cycles to which the device has been subjected are not indicated , useful information especially when you buy a refurbished iPad or iPhone since it indicates how much the battery has been used and, consequently, how much it is. been worn out.

Keep in mind, however, that you can retrieve this information by accessing your device’s Settings and selecting the Privacy and Analysis and improvements options . In the new screen that appears, tap on the Analysis data item and open the log-aggregated- [data] .ips file with the most recent date (the files are in alphabetical order, so you should be able to locate it quickly).

At this point, you should see a very long series of code strings: with a little patience, locate the command <key>com.apple.ioreport.BatteryCycleCount</key>and, in the next line, you can see the number of charging cycles of your iPad.

If you find this option impractical, even in this case you can use one of the software for Mac to find out how many times the iPad battery has been recharged.

App to see iPad battery status

If you’re wondering if there are any apps to see iPad battery status , you’ll be glad to know the answer is yes. However, I would like to warn you that many of these applications are full of banner ads and almost useless as they do not offer additional information or functionality compared to those of iPadOS. Having said that, below you will find some apps among those that I believe to be the most useful of this kind.

Battery and charger test

Battery and charger test is a free application (also available in a paid version without advertising banners) that allows you not only to view the current charge level of your iPad but also to obtain other interesting information when the tablet is charging.

After downloading and starting Battery and charger test, in its main screen you can immediately view the charge level expressed as a percentage ( Battery level ), the battery health status ( Battery health ), its temperature ( Temp ) and the current consumption expressed in mAh, i.e. milliampere hours ( Current now ).

When iPad is connected to a power source, you can also see the charging quality ( Charger quality ) and get information about the cable and the charger used (e.g. if it offers fast charging), in order to evaluate if it is the right device to recharge your iPad optimally.

HD + battery

If you are looking for a solution that allows you to understand how much more you can use your iPad before the battery is completely empty you can consider HD + Battery , a free application that shows not only the battery level still available but also for how long you can use iPad for single operations.

After downloading Battery HD + from the App Store, launch it and, on its main screen, you can immediately see how many hours you have left to read books , listen to music , play games , surf the Internet and much more with the current battery level.

In addition, you can find out how long it takes to charge your iPad, monitor the battery temperature and, by pressing the gear wheel icon located at the top, get useful tips to extend its life.

I point out that Battery HD + is also available in a paid version (3.99 euros) without advertisements.

How to see iPad battery status from Mac

As I explained to you in the previous lines of this guide, it is possible to see iPad battery status from Mac through special software, such as Coconut Battery .

If you have never heard of it before, you should know that it is a free application that allows you to know the status of the battery of the Mac on which it is installed and of all connected Apple devices, including iPad. It is also available in a paid version (€ 9.95) that offers additional features, such as the ability to connect iPhone and iPad via Wi-Fi and analyze battery life in detail.

If you think Coconut Battery is a valid solution to obtain information about the battery of your iPad, first connect to the official website of the software and click on the Download button . When the download is complete, extract the ZIP archive obtained, move Coconut Battery to the macOS Applications folder and open the path in question.

Now, right-click on the program icon and select the Open option for two consecutive times, in order to start Coconut Battery and circumvent the limitations imposed by Apple on non-certified developers (this is only necessary for the first run).

At this point, all you have to do is connect your iPad to the Mac and, if necessary, authorize the connection between the two devices. Then select the item iOS Device visible on the main screen of Coconut Battery, in order to view the data of your iPad (eg model , date of manufacture , version of iPadOS, etc.) and information relating to the battery.

In particular, you can find out the maximum battery capacity expressed in mAh ( Design capacity ), the current maximum charge capacity ( Full charge capacity ) and the current charge level ( Current charge ). These last two data are also expressed as a percentage by means of the two green bars (the one next to the Design capacity item indicates the current maximum charge capacity).

In the latter case, keep in mind that the closer the value is to 100%, the better the health of the battery. Below 70% the condition of the battery is no longer optimal and it is worth considering a replacement. In this regard, my guide on how to replace non-removable battery may be useful .

Finally, I point out that with Coconut Battery you can also find out the date of manufacture of the battery ( Manufacture date ), the number of recharge cycles ( Cycle count ), the temperature of the battery expressed in degrees ( Temperature ) and, since iPad is charging via Mac, the current charging value expressed in Watts ( Charging whit ). Furthermore, by clicking on the Battery info button , you can also view the name of the battery manufacturer ( Manufacturer ), the days of life of the latter ( Age ) and its serial number ( Serial ).

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a solution that simply allows you to see the battery charge status of your iPad (and other Apple devices, such as AirPods , Apple Watch, etc.) directly from Mac, you can download Batteries for Mac . This application, in fact, allows you to see the charge level of your Apple devices both from the macOS menu bar and through special widgets.

Batteries for Mac costs 8.78 euros (with 14 days of free trial) but is also included in Setapp , a subscription service (with 7 days of free trial) that allows you to use over 200 applications for macOS (and iOS / iPadOS, with a small surcharge) which would normally be paid for a single monthly or annual subscription. I told you about it in more depth in my guide on how Setapp works.
