Xiaomi has unveiled MIUI 13 for its devices. What’s new
MIUI 13 . What do we know about her? Well, until now we only knew that she didn’t come out when she should have come out. Xiaomi faced a bunch of negative reviews about its firmware and was forced to submit an interim version with fixes for all the accumulated flaws. Despite this, they did not postpone the launch of the update for a whole year, but tried to catch up as soon as possible. Therefore, last night, at the presentation of its new flagship, Xiaomi presented MIUI 13 .
In terms of design, MIUI 13 , despite being built on top of Android 12, has barely changed. Unless Xiaomi has changed the system font, which has become more compact than the previous one, and also added new widgets that resemble Apple’s implementation of iOS. However, this was known at an early stage of testing the update, so there is nothing to be surprised at.
What’s new in MIUI 13
The key MIUI 13 change that Xiaomi is proud of is the performance improvement over MIUI 12.5 . It grew by 15-52% in applications (depending on the type of application and on the tasks performed) and by 20-26% when interacting with the interface. That is, scrolling through desktops, updating animations and other elements will be about a quarter faster than before.
Another important indicator that Xiaomi did not fail to talk about is the decrease in system performance over time. It turns out that as the device becomes obsolete and the hardware components wear out, the speed of its operation decreases, and the firmware loses its ability to work as quickly as before. Xiaomi has managed to minimize this effect, achieving only a 5% drop in performance in 3 years.
This became possible due to increased efficiency of the system with RAM and built-in memory , which will wear out less when overwriting data. And in order to load them less, it was decided to rely on virtual RAM. Now it will be supported by all compatible devices. Their owners will be able to expand the amount of RAM in their devices due to the built-in storage.
Which phones will get MIUI 13
And there will be quite a few devices that will receive MIUI 13 . Naturally, first of all – in January – the flagships will be updated. And for the owners of all other smartphones, for now, only the beta version will be available. These models are:
- Xiaomi Mix 4
- Xiaomi Mi 11
- Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
- Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G
- Redmi K40 Pro
- Redmi K40
Of course, this is not a complete list of devices that will receive the update to MIUI 13 . Xiaomi is famous for usually updating the maximum number of its gadgets, including old ones. The only caveat is that new devices are updated based on the current version of the OS, and old ones – based on the old one. But since Xiaomi adapts all the innovations of the update for all its devices, in fact, it does not matter which version of Android it is based on.
MIUI 13 new features
The ecosystem component of MIUI 13 also did not remain without improvements. Xiaomi developers have improved the mutual compatibility of different brand devices, including tablets, smart watches, smart home gadgets, etc., so that they interact more effectively with each other. Thanks to this, in particular, MIUI 13 users will be able to stream content from one device to another in real time.
For this, a special interface has appeared in MIUI, which demonstrates all your devices in the form of a kind of family tree, where there is a head unit – the one you are using at the moment – and secondary ones. If you need to transfer some data from one gadget to another, you can open this system partition and just transfer it between you.
Like iOS, MIUI is now split into smartphone and tablet versions. MIUI 13 for “tablets” received the uncomplicated name MIUI 13 Pad . It is specially adapted for large screens with all the ensuing changes. Here you will find additional multitasking tools, independent windows with the ability to resize them, as well as hotkeys and expanded support for external keyboards. There is also a separate version for smart displays, but it is still in beta.
