Windows Solitaire

Do you use a PC equipped with Windows 8 / 8.1 and were you disappointed when you discovered that your beloved card solitaire games are no longer “standard” installed in the operating system? Are you using Windows 10 and accidentally uninstalled Microsoft’s new solitaire? Do not panic, there is a remedy for everything!

You must know, in fact, that the  Windows Solitaire is available for download in the Microsoft Store and that it can be taken directly from there without spending a cent. Compared to the old solitaire, that of Windows 7 or XP, it has a totally renewed graphic interface, but it has absolutely nothing to envy to its predecessor, indeed. Also there are many other games on the Internet that could replace the classic Klondike and Spider without any problem.

If you want to know more, please continue reading: in the following lines, I will explain how to get Microsoft solitaire back within Windows 8 / 8.1 and how to download solitaire again on Windows 10 (on which, instead, it is already including “stock”), if you have removed it by mistake. I will also show you which alternative games, equally valid, you can possibly turn to. In all cases, I have no doubts, in the end you will be able to say that you are very happy and satisfied with the result obtained. Let it bet?

Classic Windows Solitaire

Do you want to restore Windows Solitaire on a PC equipped with  Windows 10 or  Windows 8 / 8.1 ? Nothing easier. As I told you at the beginning, just download Microsoft Solitaire Collection , or the collection of solitaires that Microsoft itself has made available directly on the Microsoft Store and it’s done. The game in question includes five different solitaire games: Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, TriPeaks and Pyramid.

Unlike the “historical” variant of solitaire, Microsoft Solitaire also offers challenges on a daily basis that involve the achievement of various objectives to earn coins and trophies. It can be used for free, but eventually it is also available in a paid variant (which costs € 1.99 / month or € 14.99 / year) that does not include advertisements and increases the number of coins available in the challenges.

To download the solitaire on your computer, connected to the section dedicated to it on the  online Microsoft Store , press the Get button and, once the Microsoft Store window is displayed on the desktop , click on the Install button , then if necessary log in to yours. Microsoft account (if you don’t already have one, you can fix it now by reading my guide focused on how to create a Microsoft account ).

When installation is complete, start Microsoft Solitaire Collection by selecting its icon from the Start menu (on Windows 10) or from the Start Screen (on Windows 8 / 8.1), by clicking on the button with the Windows flag located at the bottom left of the bar of applications .

In the window that opens, then choose the type of solitaire you want to try your hand at (eg Klondike or Spider ), by clicking on the relevant button in the Games section (top), and start playing. By selecting the Challenges item from the initial menu of the game, it is also possible to try, as I mentioned in the previous lines, in timed challenges against other online users.

If, on the other hand, you want to intervene on the game settings, press the button with the three lines horizontally at the top left and, from the menu that appears, click on the Options item . I also point out the possibility of changing the appearance of the solitaire by going to the Themes section , always accessible from the same menu.

Alternative Windows Solitaire

The solitaire made available directly by Microsoft has not convinced you in a particular way or in any case you are looking for valid alternatives to the latter? Then take a look at the titles of third-party developers belonging to the same category that I have reported to you below. I’m sure you’ll be able to find at least one that can grab your attention.

123 Free Solitaire

If you prefer to play a purely classic solitaire in terms of interface, do not think twice and install  123 Free Solitaire : it is a free collection of solitaires including Klondike, Diplomat, Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid and other very popular card games working without the slightest problem on all versions of Windows. Note that it is eventually available in a paid variant (costs $ 19.95), which includes some extra features.

To download it to your PC, connect to its official website and click on the Free Downlad button  . When the download is complete, open the 123 Free Solitaire installation package (eg 123freesolitaire -vxxxx-setup.exe ) and, in the window that appears on the desktop, first click on the Yes button   and on the  Next button . Then select the item I accept the agreement and click again on the Next button twice, then on the Install button and, finally, on the Finish button . If you are using Windows 10Instead, you can download the version of the game available on the Microsoft Store , which is designed specifically for the latest operating system of the Redmond company.

Now that you see the solitaire window on your desktop, you just have to choose the game you prefer ( Pyramid , Spider , Flower Garden etc.) from the list that is proposed to you, click on the OK button and… have fun!

During the game, you can start a new game or choose a new solitaire by pressing the Game item  (top left) and clicking on the New game and Select a Solitaire buttons . To change the appearance of the solitaire, however, click on the Appearance item (always at the top) and make the customizations you prefer to the back of the cards and to the game table using the buttons and items available.

You can also access the game options and intervene on the latter, in order to customize the solitaire as you see fit, by clicking on the Tools item (which is always at the top of the window) and then on the Options button .

Solitaire 3D

Another great Windows Solitaire game that is definitely worth a try is Solitaire 3D , which includes some of the card games most loved by users around the world: Klondike, Spider, Pyramid, Frog and many more. It works on all versions of Windows (as well as on macOS) and, as you can easily guess from the name itself, it differs from the other solitaires that I have already proposed to you for its three-dimensional graphics. Basically it is free, but eventually it is available in a paid variant (costs $ 9.95) including some extra features.

To download it on your PC, connected to its official website , click on the Mac / PC link   on the right and then on the  Download Windows Version that appears on the screen. When the download is complete, open the game installation package (eg  FreeSolitaire3D.exe ) and, in the window that opens, click on the Yes button . Pigia, therefore, on the Next button , select the item I accept the agreement  and press the Next button again for another four times in a row. Then complete the setup by clicking the Install and Finish buttons .

At this point, start Solitaire 3D by double clicking on the relative shortcut that has been added to the desktop and adjust, through the window that appears on the screen, the game settings (display mode, sounds, etc.), then press the Play button . Once the main screen of the game is displayed, press the New Player button located at the bottom left. Then type the nickname you want to use in the Player Name field , indicate your nationality via the Country drop-down menu and press the Continue button .

Now select the type of solitaire you want to play by choosing it from the list on the left and press the New button  at the top right to start a new game. If, on the other hand, you want to change the game table used, the back of the cards, the type of display and so on, press the Options button on the main screen of the game or, when solitaire is started, click on the Menu button  located at the top right and select the Options item from the menu that opens.

Windows Solitaire Online

Can’t download and install new games on your computer but just can’t stop your urge to play solitaire? It’s not a problem! You can also have fun directly and comfortably from the browser window , using one of the online solitaires that I have reported to you below. I hope you like them!

World of Solitaire

The first of the online solutions that I suggest you consider is  World of Solitaire . It offers a wide range of solitaire games, including Klondike, Spider, FreeCell Pyramid, all playable for free and without having to register (creating an account is only useful for counting points and keeping preferences in memory). Note that the site is based on HTML5 technology , which means that it works without problems with any browser and with any operating system (including Windows, of course) without the need for Flash Player, Java or other plugins.

To start playing, just go to  the World of Solitaire website. The solitaire proposed by default is the Klondike. If you want to select a different one, just click on the Choose  game button  located at the top left, click on the name of the game you want to start and press the Play button , to start a new game with the chosen solitaire.

To adjust the settings and change the appearance of the solitaire use, instead, the items attached to the window which you can access by clicking on the Options button at the top right.

Net Solitaire

Another nice online solitaire that I invite you to try is Net Solitaire . It includes Klondike, Spider, Pyramid, FreeCell and many others, all playable at no cost and without having to register. It doesn’t include any kind of options but it has a very nice user interface. Again, the site is based on HTML5 technology and therefore does not require external plugins to function.

To start playing, connect to the Net Solitaire main page and click on the name of the solitaire you prefer among those available in the list in the center of the page. To subsequently change the type of solitaire, click on the Games button located at the bottom left, while to restart the current game click on the New button .

Google Solitaire

Did you know that by typing special keywords in the Google bar it is possible to play solitaire, the Klondike to be precise, directly from the web browser and, above all, directly from the famous search engine? No? Well, now you know. If the thing interests you, I’ll explain immediately how to proceed.

First, visit the Google home page , then type the term solitaire or the words  solitaire game in the search bar located in the center and press the Enter key on your computer keyboard. In the search results page that will be shown to you at this point, click on the item Click to play which is attached to the rectangle with the preview of the solitaire at the top.

In the window that opens, select the difficulty level you prefer between Easy and Hard , wait a few seconds for the cards to be dealt and you can start playing. There are no particular options, the only ones available are those to deactivate and reactivate the audio effects (by clicking on the icon with the loudspeaker at the top right), to undo the last move made (by clicking on the Undo item at the bottom of the screen). left) and to start the game all over again (by clicking on the New item  at the bottom right).
