Why I bought an old iPhone 11 Pro and not a new 12

A practical perspective on why I should choose the iPhone 11 pro over the iPhone 12

Discover the reasons behind the decision to purchase iPhone 11 pro instead of purchasing newer iPhone 12. From future preferences to budget consideration explore the practical perspective that is going to result in opting for the charm of older model.

The world of apple technology users is full of compromises and inconsistencies. How else to explain the queues for new iPhones, the price of which starts from 70 thousand rubles. This time I didn’t try my wallet and preferred to buy the old iPhone 11 Pro instead of the fresh iPhone 12. Why I preferred the 2019 smartphone instead of the new one – read this article.

Size and dimensions

For me, one of the important criteria in choosing a smartphone is size. I would like the device to fit into any pocket and not particularly interfere with wearing. Objectively, most Android smartphones and iPhones do not meet this criterion. The iPhone SE is too small and the iPhone 11 or 11 Pro Max is too big . In fact, nothing has changed dramatically this year either.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have identical dimensions, but both are larger than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro. It is also noteworthy that the new items have got beveled edges, which, with the large size of the smartphone, unpleasantly dig into the hand. In this regard, 11 Pro looks more than a convenient option. The rounded edges do the trick.

I didn’t want a very small smartphone either. Despite all the power of the iPhone 12 Mini, there is one nuance in its hardware – autonomy. And I really didn’t want to sacrifice this parameter. Therefore, the iPhone 11 Pro looks like a kind of middle, which suits in size.

Minor camera changes

Another important component of any smartphone, I consider the camera. It is better when there are several of them, but personally I want a telephoto lens. Who does not know, this camera differs from the main focal length, which is why you can make an approximate picture without losing quality. I use it a lot, so I had to choose between two models: 11 Pro and 12 Pro.

The updated smartphone received, in fact, one important innovation –  LiDAR. This is the 4th main camera in the arsenal of iPhones. With the help of LiDAR, you can determine the distance to objects, thereby improving the software blurring of the background when shooting a photo. But is it worth the extra 25-30 thousand surcharges? Otherwise, the 11 Pro is quite capable of competing for the title of one of the best camera phones.

Inside – almost unchanged

Looking into the hardware features of iPhones, one cannot fail to note the updated features of the iPhone 12 Pro. There are not so many of them, and most of them are not visible in real use. Let’s start with the processor. The new A14 Bionic chipset is good. We reduced the technical process, added transistors and improved the neuro module. Sounds solid, but only on paper. I don’t think there are tasks that the iPhone 11 Pro would not be able to handle. The next year or two, that’s for sure.

The batteries have also been updated. The MagSafe magnetic charger has arrived, which speeds up wireless charging up to  15 watts. In the 11 Pro, this value is half that. But at the same time, the battery was slightly cut in the new product. Battery life tests show that in some scenarios, the 12 Pro lives an hour less than its predecessor.

The rest of the changes can be literally examined with a magnifying glass. On the hardware side, the 12 Pro does not give anything radically new.

Novelty effect and price

There is a stereotype that everything new is an absolute blessing. However, this often does not work with technology. The manufacturer corrects errors in the work after the start of sales. And since the iPhone 12 Pro was released quite recently, all sorts of software “bugs” have not yet been eliminated. In this regard, last year’s 11 Pro looks much more advantageous. Everything that they could have already been corrected in it, the rest was left as it is.
