Best RPG games you may not have heard of

RPG is a significant genre in the gaming industry. Many gamers enjoy spending hours, weeks, and months chasing monsters, fighting, and leveling up characters. For the most part, because the RPG allows you to win back the fate of the hero, adjust it for yourself.

Today we will talk about games of the RPG genre, which, perhaps, have gone unnoticed by you, but in vain.

Legend of Grimrock 2 (2014)

Platforms: PC

In  Legend of Grimrock 2  , you control a team of heroes who were stranded on the shore of the island against their will. To survive, you will have to search for food, weapons, solve puzzles and earn experience, just like in any role-playing game.

Each of the five heroes belongs to their own  race : human, minotaur, insectoid, lizardman and ratling, which affects their basic parameters, and is also reflected in the advantages and disadvantages. In addition to races, there are  8 classes in the game : alchemist, battle mage, wizard, barbarian, farmer, fighter, knight and thief. Heroes can use several types of weapons, from standard daggers to throwing shurikens.

The role system is based on:

• basic parameters: health and energy
• attributes: strength, agility, health regeneration, willpower
• skills: alchemy, concentration, athletics, as well as skills in using various types of weapons

A whole set, for which we usually love the fantasy worlds of role-playing games so much.

The Age of Decadence (2015)

Platforms: PC

The game takes you into a post-apocalyptic world inspired by the fall of the Roman Empire. Great emphasis is placed on choice and its consequences. “The Age of Decline”  will offer you a variety of quests and an abundance of dialogues.

At the beginning of the game, you can choose one of  eight professions , which will affect the style of play. There is no class system, and heroes don’t get levels. Instead, completed quests and achievements are rewarded with skill points. You can also customize the appearance and gender of the character, and even this will affect the style of the game.

In general  , The Age of Decadence  received positive reviews from critics, it was even called the “Thinking Man RPG”. Rumor has it that  the “Age of Decline”  is complex and requires maximum attention to detail, as well as patience with the fact that you often have to die.

Monster Hunter World (2018)

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO

Take on the role of the Monster Hunter. Use any available means, hunt down monsters in an open world full of danger. When you win, you get raw materials that you spend on the production of more powerful weapons and stronger armor. Monster Hunter: World  is an RPG in which there are no skills, and your parameters depend directly on the equipment.

At the end of 2018,  Monster Hunter: World  was recognized as the “Best Role Playing Game” at the annual DICE Awards.

Tyranny (2016)

Platforms: PC

A fictional universe in the spirit of dark fantasy, where the bad side won in the conflict between good and evil. You have to make decisions that will affect the world as a whole, and communication with NPCs will bring experience, like battles. The lives of other heroes of this story will depend on your choice, and, in fact, you yourself will find yourself in the role of the Arbiter of Fates.

 

In the category “Role-playing game of the year” site Igromania  Tyranny  took second place. The game received mostly positive reviews for the story, however, there were those who complained about the boring fights and cramped locations.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (2012)

Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, XB360, XBO

“Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning”  is interesting for its combat system, which is based on well-timed keystrokes and is somewhat close to action games in the spirit of God of War , as well as the unique ability to unlock different “destinies” through the development of the skill tree.

Fights are a separate topic in this RPG: the movements of the heroes are striking in their aesthetics, the finishing off of enemies is super-spectacular, and the sounds of victory are incredibly realistic.

The fantasy world  of the Kingdom of Amalur  is divided into several regions, each of which will be remembered for its architecture and amazing landscapes.

In addition to the features of the combat system and the beauty of the area, other advantages can be found in the game, including an exciting storyline and customizable gameplay. Fans of the genre should definitely check it out.

In 2020, we saw the return of the game in an updated form, but the remaster did not cause the expected enthusiasm. Yes, it turned out well, but not every fan of the Kingdom of Amalur took up the replay.
