Who doesn’t like Mario Bros games ? It’s really hard to find someone who doesn’t love the legendary Nintendo mascot, and I bet you’re not one of them. In fact, I think you’d like to know some Mario-inspired titles to play on PC, smartphone and console.

Did I guess? Then know that you are in the right place, at the right time! In the course of this guide, in fact, I will provide you with a series of programs, apps and websites through which you can play Super Mario and games inspired by the latter through the platform of your choice.

So, without waiting an extra second, make yourself comfortable and carefully read everything I have to say on the subject: I guarantee you that, in a few minutes, you will know exactly where to retrieve the game that best suits you. You just have to be spoiled for choice, believe me!

Free Mario Bros games

Would you like to play Super Mario on your computer, smartphone or tablet, without having to spend a single euro? Then I advise you to consider the video games that I am going to present to you in this chapter.

Free Mario Bros games for PC

If it is your intention to play on PC , then I think it is right to make you a fundamental clarification: in the current state of things, Nintendo (which holds the copyright of the Mario Bros saga) has not released any official title playable on PC. However, there are some beautiful Mario Bros games  for computers that remarkably reflect the style of the famous Nintendo video game.

Secret Maryo Chronicles (Windows / macOS / Linux)

Secret Maryo Chronicles is certainly one of these: it is a platofrm game available for Windows, macOS and Linux that remarkably follows the style and graphics of Super Mario World and that can be downloaded and used completely free of charge.

To get it, connect to its website and, after identifying the Downloads box  , click on the link that best suits your operating system. Now, if you are using  Windows , click on the Zip Package link  to download the package that contains the game’s executable files and, once the download is complete, extract the file obtained in a folder of your choice. If you don’t know how to do it, feel free to check out my guide on how to extract ZIP files .

Once the file has been extracted, open the folder created previously and double-click on the Secret Maryo Crhonicles.exe file to start the game immediately. You should know that, in the Windows version, Secret Maryo Cronicles does not include background music. To get it, connected to this website , click on the Zip Package  link and, once the package download is complete, extract the contents directly into the Super Maryo Cronicles main folder.

If, on the other hand, you have a Mac, I must make you a necessary clarification: in the current state of things, the game is only available in a 32-bit version . This means, in practice, that it will not work on macOS versions equal to or later than 10.15 Catalina , as support for 32-bit programs has been definitively abandoned by Apple starting from this operating system.

In any case, if you meet the requirements, connected to the game’s website as I showed you previously, click on the link Version XX (includes music)  and wait for the download of the game’s installation package to complete. Next, launch the received file (eg  SMC-XX-YY.dmg ) and drag the SMC  icon to the Mac Applications folder  .

Now, to start the game, go to the aforementioned folder, right-click on the SMC icon, select the Open  item from the proposed context menu and click on the Open  button  to start the game, bypassing the security restrictions imposed by macOS (you must this step only when starting the game for the first time).

SuperTux (Windows / macOS / Linux)

Another PC game animated by dynamics similar to those of Mario Bros is SuperTux , a 2D platform game, free and open source, available for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.

To download it on your computer, connected to this web page , locate the  name of the operating system  you are using and click on the download link below, to obtain the game installation package.

Once you have obtained the installation file, start it and, if you are using Windows , click on the Next button  , then put the check mark next to the item  I accept the terms in the License Agreement , click on the Next  button  two more consecutive times and press buttons  install , Yes and Finish ,  to complete the installation of the game, then you can perform with the icon added to the  Start menu  of Windows.

If you are using macOS, after opening the game’s .dmg package , click on the Agree  button  and, using the window that is proposed to you, drag the SuperTux  icon  into the Applications  folder on your  Mac. To start the game, open this folder , right-click on the SuperTux icon, select the Open  item  from the proposed context menu and then click on the Open  button  to overcome the restrictions imposed by macOS (you only have to do it at the first start).

Mario Bros games online

If you prefer to avoid installing additional software on your computer, without depriving yourself of the opportunity to play one of the most popular platform games in history, I recommend that you evaluate a site dedicated to  Mario Bros games online , through which you can start your own favorite videogames with only the help of a browser of your choice. Below I point out some of them.

• Minigames – among the many emulators dedicated to the Mario brothers available on this portal, there are those dedicated to Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Kart, just to name a few.
• SNESfun – on this portal you can find emulators dedicated to almost all Mario themed titles available for the SNES console (the Super Nintendo). When starting a game, choose to use the Javascript emulator by clicking on the appropriate button (avoid Flash, which is an obsolete technology).
• SuperMarioEmulator – is an emulator written in HTML5 entirely dedicated to Super Mario Bros 1.
• cz – another site full of emulators dedicated to Mario Bros. Among the many titles available, there are the entire saga of Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario 64, Supe Mario Kart, Super Mario Land.
• Arcadespot – this is another portal full of titles dedicated to the Mario brothers, all playable through the browser. These include: Super Mario Bros, Bros 2 and 3, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Advance, Mario Kart 64 and many other titles of the genre.

Mario Bros games for smartphones and tablets

Do you usually play from your smartphone or tablet and would like to spend a few hours of free time relaxing with a Mario Bros themed game? Also in this case, I really think I can come to your aid: below you will list some games of this type, some Nintendo, others from third party developers, which will certainly satisfy your desire for videogames.

• Super Mario Run ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) – is the first game in the Mario saga officially produced by Nintendo and dedicated to Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. It is a level run-game, which also provides the possibility to challenge other users of the game, in order to collect useful elements for their missions. Basically it is a free game, but to unlock all levels and features you need to purchase the paid version (costs around € 10).
• Mario Kart Tour ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) – another official Nintendo video game, is a spin-off of the Mario Kart series which aims to reach the finish line of the circuit, using the upgrades present in the Cubes scattered around. The game dynamics follow those already seen on Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It is free with the possibility of in-app purchases.
• Mario World ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) – is the spin-off of Dr. Mario dedicated to smartphones and tablets. It is a puzzle game in which Mario, overcoming various Match 3 missions, finds himself grappling with a horde of viruses to be eradicated. It is free with the possibility of in-app purchases.
• Lep’s World 3 ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) – represents one of the best Mario clones currently available. The protagonist is a leprechaun elf who, following the same game mechanics of the Nintendo title, must recover the lost coins during the various levels. It is free with the possibility of in-app purchases. Lep’s World ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) and Lep’s World 2 ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ) also belong to the same saga .
• Secret Maryo Chronicles( Android ) – is the variant of the aforementioned PC game, dedicated to Android and iPhone / iPad smartphones and tablets, from which it fully incorporates the game modes. It’s free.

Mario Bros games for consoles

Do you love to play from consoles and would like to know if there are  Mario Bros games  for the one you have? Then this is the section of the tutorial for you, in which I will give you all the relevant information on Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4.

Mario Bros games for Nintendo Switch

If you own a  Nintendo Switch  and are a lover of the Mario brothers, then I think I have great news for you: there are so many Mario Bros games  dedicated to the console in question! 

Impossible not to start from  Mario Odyssey , probably the best Mario in 3D, with open world elements that manage to expand the game world of the mustachioed plumber like never before, without however distorting its classic nature of a game suitable for everyone.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury , on the other hand, is a unique video game of its kind because it will allow you to join Mario and Luigi as well as Princess Peach and Toad in a mission to save the fairy kingdom. It is an improved version of Super Mario 3D World for Wii U, which in this case also includes gameplay improvements and online multiplayer mode, but above all it allows you to play the new Bowser’s Fury expansion.

And then Super Mario 3D All Stars Limited which packs 3 games in 1 and celebrates 35 years of Super Mario Bros. What can you find? The legendary games of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. All titles are optimized for Nintendo Switch, with updated HD graphics, compatibility with Joy-Con controllers and a treat for true Mario fans: a music player with the epic soundtracks of all the games included!

However, as I mentioned earlier, Nintendo has published numerous other titles dedicated to Mario Bros and compatible with the Nintendo Switch, some of which represent authentic “crossovers” with well-known characters from the gaming world: below you will list some of the most famous, available online.

I’m talking, for example, about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a driving video game suitable for everyone, in which you can choose from 40 playable characters and numerous tracks; Super Mario Bros U Deluxe , is the remake of the excellent classic title released on Wii U, while  Luigi’s Mansion 3  is a soft-horror, also dedicated to the little ones, in which you have to impersonate Mario’s brother, Luigi, and guide him to defeat of ghosts, puzzle solving and many other pitfalls. And then there are also other games such as Super Mario Party or Mario Tennis Aces that will allow you to take the shoes of a tennis Mario or even Super Mario Maker 2 which allows you to create Super Mario levels, playing the role of a developer, or to play those created by others.

Mario Bros games for Xbox 360

If you own an  Xbox 360 , I don’t think I have good news for you: as things stand, Nintendo hasn’t produced  Mario Bros games dedicated to the Microsoft home console.

On the other hand, if you are a lover of Super Mario-style platform games, or Mario Kart-style racing games, I suggest you give the Rayman and Sonic sagas a chance , two characters who, through levels and circuits, can catapult players into equally exhilarating adventures.

Mario Bros games for PS4

Unfortunately, the speech already seen for Xbox 360 also applies to the  PlayStation 4 : currently, Nintendo has not released any title in the Mario Bros saga dedicated to the Sony home console.

However, this should not discourage you, as there are numerous alternative video games that follow, in part, the style of the titles dedicated to the most famous plumbers in the world: an example is the Crash Bandicoot saga  which, to the sound of levels and “car” races, offers truly remarkable gameplay, which has nothing to envy to titles like Super Mario Bros Deluxe or Super Mario Kart.
