Preliminary operations

Before explaining how to tame a cat in Minecraft, it is necessary to make some clarifications on the subject. First of all, as already mentioned above, in the famous title of Mojang, to get the cats you have to tame the ocelots, wild animals that do not attack the player.

If you succeed in taming an ocelot, it will turn into a cat, which will faithfully follow you. In this regard, in the next chapters, I will explain how to obtain raw fish, a fundamental element for the success of this domestication process.

Create a fishing rod

The most suitable activity for obtaining raw fish, such as salmon or cod, in Minecraft, is fishing. There are other ways to achieve this as well: finding fish in trunks as treasure or by defeating polar bears, but fishing is the most immediate.

So, in case you want to engage in the fishing activity within the game, you will need a fishing rod: this tool can be created using sticks and string. As for the wooden sticks, you need to insert 2 units of wooden planks into a workbench and that’s it.

The string, on the other hand, is obtained by defeating the spiders. Alternatively, it is possible to create it starting from the cobwebs, which can be found in any abandoned place, such as the bookstores of the Fortresses, the Mines or the Mansions.

To collect a web, you must enchant a sword with Velvet Touch, an attribute that allows you to obtain the object on which you interact without it being destroyed. I told you specifically about how to upgrade an item with a spell in my guide on how to make glass in Minecraft.

After obtaining 3 units of sticks and 2 units of cords, you must place them on a workbench, as indicated by the project in the recipe book that you find in the screen that is shown to you.

Catch some fish

Now that you’ve made a fishing rod, it’s time to go fishing. First, make your way to a stream and equip your fishing rod in a quick slot. Once this is done, select the object, so that you can hold it in your hand.

Then interact with the right mouse button to throw the hook into the water. You will need to be patient for a fish to bite. You will realize when this will happen, because the prey will approach the hook, pulling the float under the surface of the water.

When the fish has taken the bite, right-click to pull the hook towards your avatar, thus moving the item caught in the inventory. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that a fish will be caught every time, as you will also be able to find other items while fishing, such as bowls or keys.

When you have enough raw fish (about ten units, to be sure) you can devote yourself to the search for an ocelot, which I will tell you about in the next chapter.

How to find a Leopard

An ocelot is a wild animal that is passive towards the player, in the sense that it does not try to attack it if it enters his line of sight. Unfortunately, it is a shy animal and will tend to run away if you get too close to it.

If you want to tame one, you’ll need to go to a Jungle biome and look for this creature in the foliage. It won’t be an easy search but, once you find it, you can try to tame it, to turn it into a domestic cat.

Due to the particular conformation of the Jungle, my advice is to capture the ocelot with a leash, which is obtained with 4 units of string and a ball of Slime: the latter is an object that is obtained by defeating the Slimes, creatures that they live near swamps or underground.

After having equipped a leash, slowly approach the ocelot and interact on it, in order to apply the object to its neck: by doing so, you can take the animal with you in a larger space, perhaps a clearing outside the bush, to have the possibility to tame it more easily.

Alternatively, you can also lock him up in a large room to make sure he doesn’t run away.

How to tame a cat

Now that you are close to an ocelot, it’s time to try to tame it so you can turn it into a cat.

To do this, equip some raw fish in a quick slot, so that you are holding it, and approach the animal very slowly, trying to keep a distance of about 10 blocks.

The ocelot will sense the presence of food and will slowly approach your avatar: in this phase, remain still and wait for the animal to approach completely.

When it is close enough, interact with the raw fish on it to feed it. If all goes well, the leopard will turn into a cat, changing the color of the coat.

The tamed cat will follow your avatar everywhere, even to unreachable places, as it will teleport to your side, should it be too far away.
