How to switch servers on Warzone

Call of Duty: Warzone is certainly one of the most popular Battle Royale titles on the market. On the other hand, Activision has managed to ride the golden moment of the genre as it should, combining it with a solid brand such as COD; all in a free-to-play title, or basic playable for free.

In short, there are several reasons why the game has been so successful. However, obviously a video game is a complex product and therefore the lack of some functionality can always be there. In the case of Activision’s title, one of the most discussed issues is how to switch servers on Warzone .

In fact, doing this isn’t exactly easy. In this context, I understand why you too are looking for information to deepen this topic. Well, don’t worry: you’ve come to just the right place, as I’m going to look into the whole thing. That said, there is nothing left for me to do, except wish you good reading and have fun!

Preliminary information

Before answering your question about how to switch servers on Warzone , I think you might be interested in learning more about the general situation related to server switching in this title.

Well, you should know that within the Activision game there is no special option to quickly switch servers . In other words, unlike what happens in other games, where you can choose the matchmaking region directly from the settings (eg Fortnite ), in Call of Duty: Warzone there is no such possibility.

This applies to both the PC and console worlds. In fact, generally, the Activision title seems to choose the server in which to insert the player based on the region of origin (ie the country of origin of his IP address ). Put simply, the game usually connects the player to the best server automatically . This means that when you matchmaking – that is, searching for a match – the Activision title automatically finds the available room that will provide you with the best possible gaming experience.

To be clear, in these cases the ping is usually taken into consideration , expressed in ms . The latter indicates the time taken by the server to respond to your input . A low ping value therefore allows you to perform all game actions without slowing down or “jumps” (for example, you will see the bullet you fired start almost instantly compared to when you pressed the appropriate button).

If, on the other hand, the ping is high, you may encounter the phenomenon known as lag . Put simply, the actions you perform may be delayed and in the most severe cases you may even encounter problems such as teleporting your character or being unable to find matches . In short, playing on the right server is important to be able to get a good experience.

In this context, you therefore understand well that the choice made by the developers, that is to have the title automatically choose which server to play on, proves to be wise. However, I understand that in some cases a user may want to change servers : just think of titles like Fortnite, which have this feature to allow players to play with friends who are on the other side of the world and who, therefore, with the automatic choice of a geographically close server could never be in the same game room.

That said, it is possible to implement “tricks” to change servers also on Warzone , which, however, are not very well regarded by the game developers and often lead to problems in terms of ping and general performance ; not to mention the fact that they could also result in penalties on your game account (as mentioned, the developers of the title do not like those who play against the mechanics they have foreseen).

So, if you want, in the next few lines I will give you some “ideas” relating to these tricks, but nothing more. It will then be up to you to eventually investigate the matter and try to put everything into practice. I advise you not to do this for the reasons just mentioned and, of course, I do not take responsibility for the repercussions that such procedures could have on your account.

How to switch servers on Warzone

After having illustrated the general situation, I would say that it is time to analyze the matter further and see what are the “tricks” that allow the switching of servers in Call of Duty: Warzone on PC and console. Proceed with due caution .

How to switch servers on Warzone PC

The platform where the most users want to switch servers on Call of Duty Warzone is probably the PC . In fact, the latter is generally an “open” world, which potentially allows you to manage multiple options.

However, the situation is complex . In fact, there is a feature of the Battle.net client – the program you installed on your computer when you downloaded the game – that allows you to select the region , but the latter does not seem to affect the choice of servers .

To be clear, on the Battle.net login page (the one that appears at the first installation or by logging out of your account), you can press on the gear icon to choose which region to connect to.

In addition, once started Battle.net and eventually made the login , press the button ALL GAMES , present in the upper left corner, selecting the option Activision which is located in the sidebar, clicking on the box Call of Duty: Warzone and making click on the Regions icon (the globe), present at the bottom left, you can select the region of the game version .

Europe is usually set here by default in the case of Italy , but Americas and Asia can also be selected . As explained in the official Battle.net guidelines , these features would generally be meant to allow you to connect to servers other than those in your region.

More precisely, Americas refers to Latin America, South America, Australia, New Zealand and North America. Asia instead refers to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Macau. Also remember that in general the Europe option should be kept set to play with someone who is in the European Union, Russia, Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe.

However, as mentioned above, these features don’t seem to have any effect on the choice of servers . In fact, simply trying to set, for example, Americas and pressing the Play button , the Activision title seems to make the choice of the server automatically , setting the one that allows the best connection .

To be clear, starting COD Warzone , going to the Options and moving to the ACCOUNT tab , there is, under the Network item , a setting called Geographic area . There is no possibility to modify it, but only to view it. By pressing on the arrow icon to the right , even if you change the aforementioned region, you will still notice that the geographical area is set automatically , based on the user’s location .

In short, the question is intricate, given that the choice of the server seems to take place automatically . Some users claim to have actually managed to achieve their goal by using VPNs such as  NordVPN (which I told you about in depth  here ) and  Surfshark (which I told you about here ), of Geo-Filter features offered by certain modems routers (such as NETGEAR ones ) or by making a request regarding the change of region of your account , but you understand that these are strongly discouraged solutions. The reason? I’ll explain it to you right away.

Furthermore, it should be borne in mind that, for example, going through a VPN could also be useless on a technical level , as too high a ping may not allow you to find matches .

For the rest, I highly recommend staying away from purportedly designed programs for switching servers in Warzone . In fact, in this case the risk of running into malware and scams of various kinds is high.

How to switch servers on Warzone PS4

How do you say? Are you used to playing Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and would you like to know more about it from a console point of view? I immediately analyze everything.

Well, as you can well imagine, the situation becomes even more intricate than what I explained in the chapter dedicated to the computer . First of all, clearly also in this case there is no specific option for switching servers.

Also, given the console world is generally more “closed” than the PC one, you understand that everything becomes more complex. Incidentally, the PlayStation Network account is involved , so I strongly advise against trying to implement operations that make use of third-party solutions.

You could configure the use of a VPN like  NordVPN (which I told you about  here ) or  Surfshark (which I told you about here ) in the router that gives the connection to the console and pretend to be in another country but, I repeat, yes these are solutions that are not recommended and that lead to significant drops in game performance , as well as potential penalties to your account .

That said, I invite you to take a look at the page of my site dedicated to COD Warzone , as in the latter there are several other tutorials related to the Activision title. You never know: you might find something that’s right for you, taking inspiration for your gaming sessions.
