Sites to sell clothing online
Contrary to what one might think, the sale of clothes online is not subject to the possession of a VAT number or, at least, of a professional sales activity. Some websites, within certain limits, allow you to sell (and resell) clothes and clothing accessories even to non-professional sellers: below I illustrate some of the most well-known and functional stores of this type.
Etsy
If you’re interested in selling vintage clothing or self-made clothing online, you can definitely consider Etsy. If you had never heard of it, it is an online trading platform (also available for Android, iOS and iPadOS, in the form of an app), designed for the sale of products that are at least 20 years old or handmade.
Each listing published by the seller has a cost of $ 0.20 (€ 0.17, based on the current exchange rate) and, for each successful sale, a fixed commission of 5% is applied.
To use Etsy, connected to its official website and first click on the Login item visible at the top right and then on the Register button, which appears on the next screen. Then, fill in the proposed fields with the required information ( Email address, Name and Password ) and click on the Register button, to create and access your account.
Once the registration is complete, you can immediately open your personal shop: to do so, click on the item Sell on Etsy located in the upper menu, press the Open your shop on Etsy button and enter the required information, depending on the type of virtual store you want to open, in the Preferences section of the shop.
Now give the shop a name , indicating it in the appropriate field, and use the section Restock your shop to “fill” it with products. Click on the item Add listing, indicate the characteristics of the asset to be sold in the appropriate fields and click on the Save and continue button.
Immediately after the creation of the first advertisement, you will be asked to specify your billing and bank details: once the latter operation is also completed, click on the Open your shop button to open the store and publish the advertisement created just now.
Whenever you want to add new ads, simply click on the item Ads (on the left) and then on the Add Ads button. For more information, I refer you to reading my guide on how to sell on Etsy, in which I have provided you with all the necessary explanations.
Vestiaire Collective
If you want to get rid of branded clothes, you can consider the Vestiaire Collective platform, also available in the form of an app for Android, iOS and iPadOS: sales announcements can be published for free and, for each successful transaction, a fixed commission of € 15 is applied for items up to € 150. For higher-value goods, the commission cost can vary from 20% to 25%.
To start selling on Vestiaire Collective, go to the home page of the service and click on the item Subscribe located at the top right. Now, enter your email address in the appropriate field, press the Join the community button and enter the required information in the Password, Name, Preferred Category and Country fields.
Finally, accept the conditions of use of the service, by placing the checkmark in the appropriate box, and click on the Join the community button to complete the account creation and access the site. If you prefer, you can speed up everything by signing up with Facebook, using the appropriate button visible on the screen.
Once logged in, click on the Sell an item button, specify the department, category and brand of the asset you are about to sell and click on the Continue button.
Then use the new form that opens, to enter all the additional data relating to the dress (photo, description, conditions, price and so on) and, when you are finished, click on the Confirm and Yes buttons, to publish the ad.
Other sites for selling clothing online
Have you read carefully what has been explained so far but, unfortunately, the platforms I have indicated do not exactly meet your needs? In this case, I advise you to read my specific guide dedicated to sites for selling clothes, in which I have suggested other platforms that you can use for the purpose. I’m sure it will come in very handy!
Furthermore, if you have your own business, I would like to point out the possibility of creating an ecommerce on Shopify, a service used by over 1,000,000 stores around the world that allows you to create online stores in a few clicks, even without having knowledge in the field. programming. It includes unlimited hosting and bandwidth, a free shopify.com domain name (with the option to purchase a custom one) and tools to manage every aspect of the store: orders, payments, check-out, shipping and much more. App to sell clothes online
If you do not have a computer, or if you prefer to sell clothes and clothing accessories using your smartphone or tablet, know that there are numerous applications – associated with as many online platforms – that can help you in your business: below you will list them some.
eBay
Surely you will know the eBay platform, one of the best for buying items of any kind (including clothing), but also for selling them! The sales service, however, is not free: a non-professional seller (without a shop) can take advantage of a maximum of 150 free advertisements per month, in the Buy It Now and Auction Online formats. Each additional listing has a price of € 0.35.
Furthermore, each advertisement provides for the availability of additional paid services: the online auction with the buy it now option costs € 0.35 per advertisement, while the scheduled advertisements and the “hand-drawn ” advertisements have a cost of € 0.20.
In the event of a sale, eBay retains a commission equal to 11.5% of the transaction value (to which a commission of € 0.35 per transaction must be added + taxes also on shipping costs), up to a maximum of € 200. . If the payment is made through PayPal, the latter has the right to apply additional fees ( more info here ).
To be able to sell on eBay, download the app for Android (available on the Play Store and on alternative markets ) or iOS / iPadOS, run it and log in by entering your account credentials. If you don’t have one, you can create a free one right away, following the directions I gave you in this tutorial.
Once logged in, tap the ☰ button visible in the upper left corner of the app, tap the Sell item located in the menu that appears and start creating your listing by tapping the Sell an item button.
Now, enter a keyword that briefly describes the item to sell (e.g. evening dress ), touch the magnifying glass to associate it with the exact category, tap on the item Create a new ad and proceed by filling in the proposed form with the required information: condition of the goods, descriptive information (e.g. photo, category, brand, size, price and so on) and purchase methods ( online auction, buy it now or online auction + buy it now ).
Finally, take a look at the lower box to get information on the expenses to be incurred to publish the ad, tap the Preview button to see a preview of the ad and, when you’re ready, tap the button to put the item on sale, in order to publish the ad.
If you need an extra hand in completing the steps I have just indicated, take a look at my guide dedicated to selling on eBay, in which I have dealt with the subject in great detail.
Depop
Depop is another valid online trading platform, available in the form of an app for Android (even for devices not equipped with Google services ) and iOS and iPadOS: although it is not explicitly dedicated to clothes, it allows you to sell new clothes and used. Advertisements can be published for free, but a fee of 10% of the final price (including shipping costs), to which the payment rate provided by PayPal must be added.
To start selling immediately, download the app from the reference store of your device, open it and tap the Register button, to create a new account: then enter your phone number in the appropriate text box and tap on the sign of tick, to go to the next step.
Now, indicate the verification code that in the meantime has been sent to you via SMS in the appropriate field and, when requested, enter the data necessary to complete the creation of the account ( name, surname, email, username and password ), then tap the button to subscribe to the service.
Once logged in, touch the camera icon at the bottom, tap the Open your shop now button and, when prompted, enter a descriptive photo of the new “store” and specify the type of items you want to sell (in your case, clothing).
After this step too, touch the Next button and associate the PayPal account on which to receive the money from the sale of your goods: then touch the Connect PayPal button, enter your login credentials for this last service and connect it to Depop by tapping the Enter and Accept and Continue buttons. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can create it for free by following the steps I have shown you in this guide.
Finally, complete the shop creation by entering your billing information, tap the Next and Start selling buttons.
To create an ad immediately, go to the For sale section, tap the camera symbol and enter the photos of the dress you want to sell and a description of it. Then complete the information sheet indicating the remaining information ( place, category, size, quantity, delivery and price ), tap the arrow symbol (to preview the listing) and tap the Confirm object button, to publish the ad. That’s all!
Other apps to sell clothes online
The ones I have described to you in the previous sections of this chapter are just some of the apps for selling clothes online, but certainly not the only ones: if you are looking for other interesting options, I suggest you take a look at my guide completely dedicated to the best applications for selling clothes. clothing online. Please, give it at least a look!
How to sell used clothes online
“Free the closet!” is the mantra of this period and, instead of throwing away the clothes you no longer wear, would you prefer to sell or trade them online? In this case, the Web portals that I am about to describe in the following bars of this chapter will surely come in handy.
Vinted
Vinted is an online trading platform, available at the European level, expressly dedicated to the sale of used clothing. The strength of Vinted is the total gratuitousness of the advertisements: in the current state of things, there are no plans to publish advertisements, nor are commissions applied on the sale.
The balance from the purchases is loaded into the seller’s “virtual purse” when the buyer confirms that the item received conforms to the description, or two days after the goods have been delivered; the purse balance can be used to make purchases on Vinted, or transferred to a current account.
Keep in mind that Vinted is a dedicated platform, both for purchase and sale, only and exclusively to consumers and non-professional sellers; any infringements can be punished and sanctioned by law.
To take advantage of the platform, connected to this website, click on the Start selling button and, if you have not or you have already done so, sign up for Vinted through your Facebook, Google or Apple account; alternatively, you can create a new profile using the email: then click on the item Subscribe, enter the information requested in the next form ( username, email and password ) and click on the button Subscribe, to create a new account.
Subsequently, click on the Verify your phone number button, enter a mobile number to which you have access in the appropriate field and complete the identity verification, typing, when requested, the code received via SMS.
Once registration is complete, you should immediately find yourself in the screen dedicated to creating a new ad; if not, click on the Sell Now button, visible in the top bar of the page.
Now, use the Upload Photos button to insert photos of the dress you want to sell, specify a title and description for the ad, and indicate the category, brand and condition of the item for sale. Subsequently, specify the price of the asset, your possible willingness to exchange it and click on the Upload button to save the ad. If you prefer to finish it later, click the Save draft button instead.
To view the Vinted balance and possibly transfer it to a current account, click on your profile picture located at the top right and select the item Balance from the menu that appears. To see all the advertisements published, select the Profile item from the same menu.
If you prefer to sell from a smartphone or tablet, I would like to point out that Vinted is also available as an app for Android (both on the Play Store and on alternative markets ), iOS and iPados.
Svuotaly
Another solution to consider when selling used clothes online is Svuotaly: a flea market that allows you to sell and buy goods of any kind, including clothes, and which does not charge commissions for the publication of new advertisements, or for the sale of products.
To use it, connected to the service’s website, click on the Registration item located at the top and choose whether to log in via Facebook, using the appropriate button or via email, indicating the necessary information ( username, email address and password ) in the Register with email field.
Next, indicate some information about your favorite clothing (size, shoe size, style, color) and about you (year of birth, gender, province and city) and click on the Save and continue button to finalize everything.
Once logged in, click on the Sell button visible in the top bar and use the Upload photo button to upload one or more photos (maximum 4) of the dress you are about to sell. It therefore indicates the category of the good (in this case, clothing ), the title of the advertisement, the brand of the product and additional data such as description, gender and size.
Next, specify the sale price, indicate whether or not you are available to exchange the item and complete the listing by indicating the color of the item, the style, the recommended season, the state, the type of delivery and the shipping costs. To conclude and publish the ad, click on the Insert button. Sale announcements are available in the Closet section, located in the top menu.
I would like to point out that, every 7 days, you will be able to bring your advertisement back to the top for free by clicking on the UP option, visible in the same.
