Well, I understand you, actually it is not very easy to understand how to make such an object. In any case, do not worry: in this guide I will explain in detail how to make an aquarium in Minecraft and I will analyze the subject at 360 degrees by examining all the possibilities offered by the Mojang title. Finally, I will also explain how to embellish a little the structure that you will set up, in order to contextualize it in your environment.

Courage: why are you still standing there motionless in front of the screen? Take five minutes of free time and follow the quick directions below. I assure you that the result will satisfy you. There is nothing left for me to do, except wish you good reading and have fun!

Preliminary information

Before going into the details of the procedure on how to make an aquarium in Minecraft, I think it may interest you to know more about this possibility.

Well, within the title of Mojang there are different types of fish: from cod to salmon, through tropical fish and pufferfish. The latter are found in the various streams scattered around the map and can be placed inside an aquarium. However, it is good to know that there is no such thing as an object, but it can be built.

Some players think that in Minecraft it is only possible to catch fish, but in reality it is also possible to “catch” them, using a bucket. The latter is created by joining 3 units of iron ingots.

To get the latter, you need to put some raw iron and any fuel inside the furnace. For more details, I suggest you consult my tutorial on how to make the furnace in Minecraft, in which I also explained how to “light it”.

As for raw iron, you can find it, for example, in caves, using a pickaxe. For more information, I recommend that you consult my guide on how to survive in Minecraft, in which I explained how to build a little bit all the basic elements for the game’s Survival mode (including the stone pickaxe, which you can use to extract the crude iron).

In any case, once you have a bucket, you can “catch” the fish simply by going to a stream, filling the bucket with water and interacting with the fish while you have it in your hand. You can catch practically any fish and you will get, for example, the Puffer Fish Bucket Item.

The latter will allow you to place the fish inside the aquarium, making it come out of the bucket, without too much trouble. In short, “catching” fish in Minecraft is possible.

As for the aquarium itself, in reality the required materials are not many. Just get some blocks of any kind to create a wallhatches (made with 6 units of planks ) and glass to close the aquarium. For more information, I recommend that you check out my tutorial on how to make glass in Minecraft.

For the rest, in case of doubts about how to create a certain object, I suggest you refer to the handy MineSearch tool, accessible through the official portal. Just use the search bar located at the top right, typing the name of the object you want to build and selecting the most relevant result.

In this way, the combination of elements necessary to create that particular object will appear on the screen and you will no longer have doubts about how to manufacture it . In short, following my instructions and “leaning” on this tool you should not have particular problems in reaching your goal.

How to make an aquarium in Minecraft

After explaining the possibilities offered by the game, I would say that it is time to take action and create an aquarium in Minecraft.

To proceed, make a wall with any type of block. I recommend you do it 6 x 6, with a thickness of 2 blocks.

Now, break 4 centrally placed blocks, in order to create a “hole”.

Then place 4 blocks above the ground, 2 “inside” the hole and 2 outside.

At this point, take some hatches and place them around the outer blocks you just placed.

After that, place glass panels on the sides and in front of the front blocks.

Now, take the bucket (I explained how to make it in the previous chapter ), fill it through any stream and use it to fill the aquarium with water. The hatches should “hold” the water.

Then, fill again the bucket of water (in Survival mode, you’ll just use it in a water source) and find a stream where there are fish.

So approach the fish you want to “catch” (you can catch one at a time), use the bucket of water and you will get the Bucket with fish object in your inventory (eg a “bucket with cod”).

Then go back to your aquarium and place the fish in it. Perfect, now you can use the bucket again to catch more fish (of course you still have to fill it with water) and that’s it.

Once you have captured the fish and inserted the right objects to embellish the aquarium, you can “close” the upper part with hatches. You now have your own aquarium in Minecraft!

How to create a well designed aquarium in Minecraft

How do you say? Doesn’t the design of the aquarium I have shown you completely convince you? No problem, I’ll immediately explain how to embellish it properly, obviously starting from the base that I explained to you how to create in the previous chapter.

The first thing you may want to do is remove the glass panels, which perhaps “protrude” a little too much from the structure. Instead, you might think about using invisible blocks.

In this case, you must use the command /give \[username] minecraft:barrier (in the Java edition of Minecraft) or /give [username] barrier(in the Bedrock version).

By replacing the glass panels with the Barrier object, you will get blocks that are not seen, but I remind you that you are still using “tricks”. For more details, I invite you to consult my guide on how to have invisible blocks in Minecraft.

At this point, I would say that the design is already much better than before, but it is possible to work on it a little more, perhaps with the help of some mods for the Java version of Minecraft for PC. In particular, I would like to advise you to use the Aquaculture 2 mod, which by the way is also compatible with version 1.15.2 of the game.

To proceed, you must first configure the Forge profile, which is required to use Minecraft mods. Therefore, connect to the official Forge portal and press the Installer button, making sure to download the right version or one that is compatible with the Aquaculture2 mod (eg 1.15.2).

Now, start the forge- [version] – installer.jar file obtained, check the Install client box and press the OK button. Perfect, Forge has been successfully installed on your computer.

Once this is done, connect to the CurseForge portal and click on the Download button located on the right (selecting the correct version of Minecraft). Next, move/copy the file Aquaculture- [version] .jar in the mod folder of Minecraft.

On Windows , the path to follow is C:\Users\[nome utente]\AppData\Roaming.minecraft\mods, while on macOS it is ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods. Speaking of Windows, you may have to follow my guide on how to view hidden folders to reach the aforementioned path.

Now, open the Minecraft Launcher, click on the down arrow icon on the left, select the Forge profile and press the Play button.

Enter, therefore, in a game in Creative mode (perhaps in the one in which you created the aquarium previously), press the E button on the keyboard, click on the right arrow at the top and select the fishing rod icon (it’s top left).

Here you will find all the elements added by the mod, which are mainly myriads of new fish to use for your aquarium. By the way, you can already take the relevant bucket. Just drag and drop whatever you want (eg Bucket of Synodontis) into the quick inventory and use it.

For the rest, in addition to varying with the buckets available (for example, there is also the jellyfish, obtainable through the “Bucket of Jellyfish”), you may be interested in putting some aquatic grass inside the aquarium, in order to embellish it a little ‘more.

Excellent, now you have all the necessary information to be able to create very pleasant aquariums from a design point of view. Of course, you can use this structure as a base, indulge yourself a bit and create much larger and more complex aquariums.

Since you are a fan of the Mojang title, I would also advise you to take a look at the page of my site dedicated to Minecraft, where you can find a large number of tutorials that may interest you.
