Forward individual emails

Let’s start by seeing immediately how to forward the mail with Gmail in cases where you want to “turn” to another e-mail address of individual messages. The operation, as anticipated, is feasible both from computer and from mobile. Find all the explanations you need right below.

From the Web

Do you want to find out how to forward individual emails with Gmail from the web? Then, first of all, open the browser you usually use to surf the net from your computer (eg Chrome ), connect to the main page of the service and log into your account (if necessary).

Once logged in, all you have to do is open the message to be forwarded by clicking on its subject in the inbox, click on the Other button (the one with the three vertical dots ) located at the top right and select the Forward item from the menu that appears.

At this point, the classic Gmail message composition box will open with the message to be forwarded inside, preceded by the Forwarded message header and the summary of the sender, recipient, date of receipt and subject.

To send the message to whoever is responsible, just write the e-mail address to send it to in the To field (as you normally do when writing a new e-mail) and click on the Send button  located at the bottom. If you deem it necessary, you can freely change the subject and body of the message before forwarding it.

From app

If, on the other hand, you are interested in understanding how to forward mail with Gmail by intervening on individual messages from your smartphone or tablet, the first step you need to take is to start the service app, available for both Android and iOS , on your device and log in to your account (if necessary).

Once the main screen of the app is displayed, select the subject of the message that you intend to forward, press the Forward button (the one with the arrow to the right ) at the bottom of the screen and you will find yourself in front of the usual composition screen of a new e-mail message with Gmail containing the e-mail to be forwarded preceded by the heading Message forwarded and the summary of sender, recipient, date of receipt and subject.

To send the message, write the e-mail address of the recipient to send it to in the A field and tap on the button with the paper airplane at the top right. If you want, you can also edit the subject and body of the message before proceeding with forwarding.

Forward all emails from specific senders

In case you want to forward the mail with Gmail automatically to a given e-mail address and maybe manage it better by creating custom filters, the procedure is a little longer but equally simple to complete. Below you will find all the information on how to proceed. The operation, I anticipate, is not feasible from mobile.

Configure forwarding

If you are working from the Web, in order to also be able to send your electronic correspondence with Gmail automatically to a given address, the first step you need to take is to start the Web browser that you usually use to surf the net from your computer (eg. Chrome ), connect to the main page of the service and log in to your account (if necessary).

Now, go to the Gmail settings by clicking on the gear icon at the top right and select the Settings item from the menu that appears. On the page that opens, went on the tab Forwarding and POP / IMAP  which is above and click Add a forwarding address that you find at the section Forwarding:

Then type the e-mail address to which you want to automatically forward messages from Gmail in the appropriate field that you see appear on the screen and first click on  Next, on Proceed and on OK.

At this point, you must validate the forwarding of messages from Gmail to the email address entered by connecting to the latter and clicking on the confirmation link included in the message received from Google. On the page that will subsequently open you will then have to click on the Confirm button.

Once this is done, go back to the Gmail settings and type the confirmation code of the operation received from Google by e-mail (always the one that contained the link to enable the diversion) in the confirmation code field that you find in correspondence with the wording Verify email @ emal.com (instead of email @ email.com you will find the email address to which you want to forward Gmail messages). Then click on the adjacent Verify button.

Therefore put a checkmark next to the item Forward a copy of the incoming mail to, select the e-mail address for forwarding from the drop-down menu next to it and choose the operation to be performed after forwarding from the menu and. Depending on your needs, you can decide whether to keep all forwarded messages in the Gmail inbox, mark them as read, archive them or delete them automatically.

Once the changes are complete, press the Save changes button located at the bottom of the page to save the settings. To confirm the success of the operation, you will see a warning appear at the top of the page which will automatically disappear after a week.

Configure filters

Once you have completed the above steps you are ready, if you want, to create your own filter for the automatic forwarding of work messages. So, click on the arrow on the right side of the search bar at the top and, in the box that appears, type the e-mail address of the sender whose messages you want to forward automatically in the From field.

At this point, click on the Create filter button at the bottom right, put the checkmark next to the Forward to item, select the address to which to forward the e-mails from the adjacent drop-down menu and click on the Create filter button to activate automatic forwarding.

It’s done! From this moment on, all e-mails received by the sender indicated in the filter will be automatically “routed” to the e-mail address chosen for forwarding. Happy?

And remember, as well as based on the sender, forwarding can also be done based on the subject of the messages and other criteria that can be freely set in the filters. You can set everything, depending on your preferences and needs, by intervening on the appropriate options that are shown to you after clicking on the arrow attached to the Gmail search field.

In case of second thoughts

Have you thought about it and want to disable the features you just set up for mail forwarding? No problem. From your computer, start the program to surf the net that you generally use (eg. Chrome ), connect to the home page of the service and log in to your account (if necessary).

To cancel all the “effects” of the filters (if set), just click on the gear symbol at the top right, select Settings from the menu that opens and then the Filters and blocked addresses tab .

In the new page displayed, click on the delete item that you find in correspondence with the previously created filter you want to get rid of and press OK to confirm the choice made.

To cancel instead of the actual forwarding, select the tab  Forwarding and POP / IMAP  that is always at the top and choose the option Disable forwarding that you find at the section Forwarding: . Confirm your choice by pressing the Save changes button at the bottom.

Proceeding in this way, you will be temporarily deactivating the forwarding procedure. As a result, you can get it working again at any time by simply choosing the option Forward a copy of the inbox to below and selecting the reference e-mail address.

If, instead of temporarily disabling the forwarding of messages, you want to disable the function permanently, from the drop-down menu that you find next to the item  Forward a copy of the inbox to select the option Remove mail @ mail.com (instead of mail @ mail.com you will find the e-mail address chosen for forwarding), click on OK  and on the Save changes button at the bottom.
