How to convert Excel to PDF

Have you created some documents in Excel and would like to transform them into PDFs to be able to distribute them in public? No problem. By now there are many free applications that allow you to obtain “perfect” PDF files, that is compatible with any program and any device, without making the slightest effort.

All you have to do is open the documents to convert, click a button and that’s it. In addition, if you prefer, there are also excellent online services that allow you to convert Excel to PDF (or vice versa) directly from the browser: all for free, without mandatory registration and without having to install additional programs or plugins on your computer.

In short, as you will have understood, there is only to be spoiled for choice. At this point you just have to take a few minutes of free time, carefully analyze all the programs and Web services listed below and choose the one that seems most comfortable to you, or in any case more suitable for your needs. Good job!

Microsoft Excel

If you are using a version of Microsoft Office equal to or higher than 2007, you can transform Excel spreadsheets into PDF without resorting to third-party applications. If you want to learn how to do it, click on the File button located at the top left (or on the Office logo, depending on the version of the suite installed on your PC) and select the Save as item from the menu that appears. In the screen that opens, select the folder in which to save the file, choose the PDF item from the Save as drop-down menu and press the Save button to complete the operation.

If you’re using Office 2007 but don’t find the PDF format in the Save As drop-down menu , don’t despair. Go to the Microsoft website and download the Microsoft Office 2007 Save as PDF Add-in . This is a free plugin for Office that enables the export of Word, Excel, etc. documents. in PDF. The procedure to install it is very simple: you have to open the exe file you downloaded from the Microsoft website and follow the instructions on the screen.

LibreOffice

If you don’t have Office on your computer or are using a suite version prior to 2007, you can convert Excel to PDF using LibreOffice . In case you’ve never heard of it, this is a free and open source productivity suite for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It stands as the main alternative to Microsoft Office, is able to view and edit all documents created with the latter and also includes a convenient PDF export function.

To download LibreOffice on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the  Download version xx button . If you are using a Mac, also click on the Translated User Interface button which allows you to download the language pack with the Italian translation of the software (which is included as standard in the Windows version).

When the download is complete, if you are using a Windows PC, then start the LibreOffice installation process by opening the LibreOffice_xx_Win_x86.msi file and click first on Next and then on  Install ,  Yes  and  Finish .

If you are using a Mac, on the other hand, open the dmg package that contains LibreOffice and drag the icon of the latter into the Applications folder of OS X. Then open the dmg package that contains the language pack and install the program translation by double clicking on the LibreOffice Language Pack Icon . At the end of the operation, go back to the Applications folder of OS X and start LibreOffice by right clicking on its icon and selecting the Open item from the context menu (action necessary only at the first start).

Well, now you just have to open LibreOffice, select the Open item from the File menu and select the spreadsheet to transform into PDF. Then wait for the document to be loaded, click on the button with the PDF icon located at the top left and choose the folder in which to save the converted file. Easier than that?

iLovePDF

There are also online services that allow you to convert Office documents and PDFs directly from your browser. One of these, which I want to talk to you about today, is iLovePDF which is completely free and protects the privacy of users by deleting all the files that are uploaded to its servers within a few hours.

The service – which also includes numerous other tools for editing and converting PDF documents – does not require registration but allows you to process only one file at a time. To raise this limit and convert up to 3 documents at the same time, you need to create an account and subscribe to the iLovePDF Premium plan for 3.99 euros / month by clicking on the Register item located at the top right.

Having made this necessary clarification, to transform an XLS or XLSX file into PDF with iLovePDF, all you have to do is connect to the main page of the latter and drag the document to be converted into the browser window. Then you have to click on the Convert to PDF button and wait a few seconds for the processing of the spreadsheet to be completed. The download of the final result will be automatic.

Online2PDF

If the limits of iLovePDF are a little too tight for you, try to convert Excel to PDF with Online2PDF which allows you to perform online conversion of Office documents to PDF (and vice versa) with an upload limit of 20 files and 100MB . Not even this site requires registration in order to be used and protects the privacy of users by automatically deleting all files that are uploaded to its servers.

To use it, connected to its home page and drag the spreadsheets to be transformed into PDF in the red box at the bottom. Then expand the Mode drop-down menu , choose whether to convert the Excel files separately ( Convert files separately ) or merge them into a single document ( Merge files ) and press Convert to download the final result to your computer.
