Preliminary information

There are some premises to do before going into the details of the procedure on how to connect OPPO to the TV . You will forgive me, therefore, if I take some time to analyze the various preliminary issues. However, I believe they are important.

First, there are quite a few OPPO smartphone models out there. The latter brand is in fact very productive, as well as active for years (its foundation dates back to 2004, in China). You can therefore imagine how there are more or less dated devices, with different characteristics.

In any case, whether you are wondering how to connect OPPO A9 to the TV or how to connect OPPO Reno to the TV , just to give two concrete examples, in this tutorial I will focus on several methods, which will allow you to reach your goal essentially from any OPPO smartphone.

Net of this, during the tutorial I will analyze both the wireless solutions and the more classic solutions that involve the use of cables . The choice is up to you: by using a cable you will reduce the problems from the point of view of latency to the bone , therefore, by simplifying the concept to the extreme, what you see on the smartphone display will essentially be reproduced instantly also on the TV screen.

Going, however, for wireless solutions , you will certainly buy a lot in terms of convenience but you may have some “headaches” in terms of viewing quality , latency or stability of the wireless signal . In any case, wireless technologies are now mature and even these problems are quite sporadic.

That said, it should be emphasized that – as I will explain better in the course of the guide – in some cases it is not possible to go through the use of the cable , or in any case there are important limitations, so it is probably better to focus mainly on wireless solutions.

How to connect OPPO to TV without cable

Now that you are aware of the various options available to you, I would say that it is time to take action and actually show you how to connect OPPO to the TV , starting with the wireless solutions . Below you can find all the relevant information.

OPPO Screencast

The simplest method to connect an OPPO terminal to the TV without cable is to go through OPPO Screencast , that is the functionality implemented natively by the manufacturer in all its devices (or at least the relatively recent ones).

In case you were wondering, yes – this solution is based on the Miracast standard . The latter provides a direct connection via Wi-Fi and is used to transmit what you see on the smartphone screen on the TV. Since this is a direct connection, there is no need for a support Wi-Fi connection , since the two devices connect directly to each other.

Having said that, you need to know that using OPPO Screencast is really a breeze. In fact, all you are required to do is make a finger movement from top to bottom starting from any smartphone screen, in order to access the notification curtain first and then, expanding the latter, to the quick buttons. and look for the icon called Screencast (you may have to go to the second page to find it).

Once pressed on the latter, you will be taken to the settings screen for the feature in question. Alternatively, you usually just need to go to Settings> Connection & sharing> Screencast . As you can imagine, depending on the model of OPPO device in your possession, the procedure may vary slightly. Either way, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding the option.

At this point you will be asked to provide all the appropriate permissions , necessary for the proper functioning of OPPO Screencast. So tap on the I accept and continue button and choose whether to allow Screencast to access the various possibilities While using the app or Only this time . You may also be asked to go to the Settings (using the appropriate shortcut provided), tap on the Permissions option , press the Location item and check the Always allow box .

Once this is done, go back to the settings screen dedicated to Screencast and activate the option, if necessary, by moving the appropriate lever to ON . Therefore, the search for the TV will start . However, I clearly haven’t currently told you how to configure the latter yet, so the option may not appear.

You have probably already understood, therefore, what you need to do now: activate the mirroring option on the TV . There are multiple variables here, in fact each manufacturer usually implements the functionality in their own way. This means that for me it is a bit complex to give you precise indications on how to proceed.

Generally it is not anything complex: just go to the TV settings , find the screen mirroring option (the names used can be different, for example Miracast and Wireless Projection ) and enable it .

To give you a practical example, I will consider connecting the OPPO smartphone to an LG Smart TV . Well, the first thing to do is press the Home button on the remote control and move to the Screen Share (or similar) tab , then obviously pressing the OK button .

Doing so, you access the screen that allows you to activate the listening mode related to Miracast , so that the TV is visible from the OPPO device. It is then necessary to press the OK button on the remote control above the Listening Mode item , present at the top right, and check the Enable box .

Now your TV will appear on the OPPO Screencast screen (you may have to press the Update item , if the previous search was not successful). All you have to do is tap on the name of the TV , provide all the required permissions , press the Yes button on the TV to confirm the connection, and enjoy the transmission of the screen .

Chromecast

Another valid solution to proceed without cables (it may be useful for those who cannot take advantage of the aforementioned OPPO Screencast functionality ) is that relating to Chromecast .

Many know Chromecast as a “key” to be connected to the TV to send content from smartphones, tablets and PCs to the latter. In reality, however, Chromecast is also the name of the wireless technology that underlies the operation of the stick. Well, the aforementioned technology is now integrated in many Smart TVs, for example those with the Android TV operating system produced by companies such as Sony to Toshiba , via Philips and Sharp , which therefore do not require the use of the famous “key” to receive content from Android devices (and more generally from devices that support Chromecast).

Therefore, if you have a TV that has Google Cast / Chromecast integrated , you might think about taking advantage of this feature that allows you to quickly connect your smartphone to the TV simply by passing through the same Wi-Fi network and for a compatible application , such as for example YouTube , Amazon Prime Video or Netflix .

The use is very simple: just start the content to be transmitted to the TV on your smartphone, press on the transmission icon and select the name of the TV to “pass” the content on the latter while continuing to manage playback from the phone.

Alternatively, if your will is to transmit the screen of your smartphone and not just a certain content, you can go to the Google Home app . Once the latter is open, all you have to do is press on the name of the TV and then on the Cast screen button (you may also be asked to tap again on Cast screen to start everything). Alternatively, you can use the mirroring icon present in the notification menu .

If you have a non-smart TV or without Chromecast technology integrated, you may want to consider purchasing Chromecast , in this case intended as the external dongle to connect to the HDMI port of the TV.

There are two Chromecast models on the market: the Full HD one that only allows you to send content to the TV, and the one with Google TV , which also supports 4K and having a supplied remote control and the Android TV operating system, allows you to install and manage apps without going through your smartphone or other devices. It is available for purchase at major physical and online electronics stores and at the official Google online store .

In any case, once you have connected the key to the HDMI port of the TV , just connect Chromecast to the power socket and proceed with the configuration from the Google Home app , as explained in my tutorial on the subject .

For the rest, the procedure for casting the contents on the TV is the same as I indicated above for TVs with integrated Chromecast.

How to connect OPPO to TV with cable

Wireless solutions are certainly very convenient and allow you to achieve the purpose of connecting an OPPO device to the TV easily, yet some users still prefer wired solutions . Are you one of these too? So I’m sorry, but I have some bad news to tell you.

In fact, as indicated by OPPO itself on its official portal , currently the smartphones of the well-known manufacturer do not allow HDMI screening , but you can only go through the wireless features that I illustrated in the “initial” phase of the guide, that is OPPO Screencast and Chromecast .

However, it must be said that the situation is constantly evolving and involves support for MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) technology , which allows the transmission of the video and audio stream in this way. You can therefore refer to the official MHL portal , taking a look at the Mobile section , to monitor the situation.

That said, the situation is actually quite “unusual”. In fact, despite the manufacturer’s indications, some specific model of OPPO smartphone is actually able to transmit the screen to the cable TV , but unfortunately there is no way to get a lot of official information about it (among other things, the apps that promise to provide further guidance are often unreliable, while the lists available online, such as the one from MHL I mentioned earlier, are poorly updated or approximate).

You could therefore think of buying a USB Type-C / HDMI cable and try to connect the smartphone to the TV in this way, checking that, once the correct HDMI channel is set , the video stream appears on the screen . You can find cables of this type, even cheap ones, for example on online stores like Amazon .

However, keep in mind that due to some protections related to certain content , you may not be able to view videos such as those from Netflix or other similar streaming apps. In short, the question is “intricate” and, if you want some advice, it is probably good to follow OPPO’s directions and simply point to wireless solutions , which can in any case guarantee a good experience.

However, I also wanted to inform you about this possibility and let you know that the situation appears to be evolving. To give you a concrete example, the top of the range OPPO Find X3 Pro , released in 2021, is able to transmit the video stream via the USB Type-C port . In short, it is not really impossible to go by cable, but you understand well that the situation is not exactly the best.

Therefore, I invite you to proceed only once you are well informed about your specific device and after understanding all possible limitations as you should.
