Here you will find all known PS4 error codes with the appropriate measure to resolve the error message. The list is extremely long, which is why it is very useful to use the table search function. First check whether your error code is a CE (other / general) , E (external) , NP (server) , NW (network) , SU (software update) or WV; WS (Internet) error. You can recognize this by the first letters of the code (example: NW -31194-8 = NW network error)

Many of the error codes listed arise either from problems with your own Internet connection or from partition problems on the PS4 hard drive .

We therefore always recommend a stable Internet connection via LAN cable instead of the console’s built-in WLAN module. This not only reduces unnecessary latency in multiplayer games, it also increases the download speed of updates and other content from the PS Store.

Hard disks tend to work improperly over time, since fragments are created when writing and reading the data, which increases loading times and unexpected errors occur in the system. In the case of a PC, this problem can be easily remedied by defragmenting the hard drive. With the PS4, it is advisable to reinstall or completely replace the entire hard drive after several years of use. Often, a complete replacement makes more sense, as newer hard drives provide more storage space and are also significantly faster. CE (Other / General) errors


CE-35239-2	PS4 system update required to use network functions.	1: Turn on PS4. 2: (Settings). 3: (System Software Update) Follow the steps on the screen to update the system.
CE-35327-0	Cannot connect to the server. The PSN is currently overloaded with excessive traffic.	Try logging into the PSN at a later time.
CE-34452-8	Download file could be damaged.	1: Delete the loaded file from the home screen and restart the PS4. Reload the file from your library. 2: Renew your network settings. Try using a static IP or a different DNS server. 3: The PSN may be overloaded, so please try again later. If the error occurs later, go to [Settings]> [Initialize PS4 (reinstall system software)]. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
CE-32875-5	An internal system error has occurred. Current date and time information could not be obtained.	1: Connect your PS4 to the Internet 2: Select [Settings]> [Date and time settings]> [Set automatically] 3: If the error persists, contact official PlayStation Support.
CE-37533-1 CE-37534-2 CE-37535-3 CE-37536-4 CE-37537-5 CE-37538-6	Face recognition failure.	Turn on the PS4 and scan your face again from the PS4 camera.
CE-35657-6 CE-30002-5 CE-33177-1	Application could not be started. The file may be damaged.	1: Select [Notifications]> [Downloads] and delete the notification with the error. 2: Back up your data with a USB stick or with the PS + online storage. Start the safety mode of the PS4 and select 5. [Refresh database]
CE-32937-4	Failed to download the file.	1: Select [Repeat] on the error message. 2: restart the PS4 and reload the file. 3: If the error occurs again, try later. The network may be overloaded.
CE-32920-6	Download of the file was canceled because the content does not need to be downloaded.	1: Select [OK] at the error message. Go to [Settings], there to [PSN] and select [Restore Licenses] 2: Select the game concerned and check whether the purchased content can be found. If subscription content such as a Season Pass was purchased, it should be visible in [Settings]> [PSN]> [Account information]> [Services list]. 3: If the content you purchased is not in the game, restart the PS4 and repeat step 2.
CE-33950-0	A connection to the server to check the license could not be established.	There seems to be a problem with the server. Please try again later.
CE-37732-2 CE-36244-9	The downloaded file may have been corrupted while it was being downloaded.	1: Delete the loaded file from the home screen and restart the PS4. Reload the file from your library. 2: If the error code persists, go to [Settings]> [Initialization]> [Initialize PS4] and initialize the PS4. 3: If the error occurs again, there may be problems with the hard drive (HDD) of the PS4. If the hard drive was recently replaced, it should be replaced with the previously used hard drive.
CE-32928-4	The download of the file was canceled because the download of this content was previously performed and canceled.	1: Go to [Notifications]> [Downloads] and check whether the content can be found on the list. Delete the file via [Options] and try to start the download of the content via the library again. 2: If the error occurs again while downloading the file, do a backup via USB stick or via PS + online storage and start the Safe Mode of the PS4. To do this, first turn off the PS4. Then hold the PS4’s power button until you hear a beep twice – one tone after you press it, one tone seven seconds later. Connect the Dualshock 4 controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. Now select [Restore database] in Safe Mode. When the process is finished, upload the data from the backup and start downloading the content from the library again. 3: If the error code persists, go to [Settings]> [Initialization]> [Initialize PS4] and initialize the PS4.
CE-32889-0	An error has occurred in the game or the application.	An error occurred while using a game or an application. Check the internet connection via [Settings]> [Network]> [Test internet connection]. If the PSN registration fails the test, please try again later
CE-32883-4	Internal error.	Turn off the PS4 and restart the system.
CE-33179-3	Application was not found.	After the installation is complete, repeat the process. The installation of add-ons fails until the application / game has been completely installed.
CE-33991-5	Connection failure	You have a problem with your network connection. Please take the following steps: 1: The PlayStation Network may be out of order. Check if all services are online. 2: If the services are online, check your internet connection. You can test your connection under [Settings]> [Network]> [Test Internet connection]. 3: update your router’s firmware. Restart the router and check whether you can now use the online services.
CE-34788-0	Update file cannot be used.	The update file on your USB storage device cannot be used. To install an update, you have to make sure that you are using the latest update file. You can find them HERE !
CE-30774-1	Update cannot be carried out	The PS4 could not be updated via USB stick, please try to update via the Internet.
CE-34335-8	No hard drive found in the PS4	The PS4 could not find a hard drive. Please try the following steps: 1: Switch off the PS4 and then pull out the power supply. Then check whether the hard drive has been installed correctly . 2: If the problem persists, the hard drive may be defective or your PS4 needs a repair. To do this, contact PlayStation Support.
CE-34878-0 CE-36329-3	An error in an application or in the system	1: Close the application, install the latest update of the application if available and update the firmware of the PS4. Then restart the console. 2: If a PS4 camera is connected, remove it from the PS4 and restart the console. Then go to [Settings]> [User]> [Login Settings] and switch off “Face Recognition”. 3: If you have already replaced the hard drive, reinstall the original one in the PS4. 4: If the error occurs again, go to [Settings]> [System]> [Reinitialize PS4]. 5: If the steps didn’t help before, contact PlayStation Support.
CE-33743-0 CE-33945-4	Connection to the server failed	You may have a problem connecting your PS4 to your own network. Please try the following steps: 1: The PlayStation Network may be currently inactive. Check the status here . Also check whether the servers of the respective game are not offline. 2: If all servers are active, check whether your internet connection is working properly. go to [Settings]> [Network]> [Test Internet Connection]. 3: Check whether the latest system software is installed on your router. If it doesn’t, update your router.
CE-30392-7 CE-30608-7	Hardware error	Your PS4 needs repair. Contact PlayStation Support for this .
CE-33992-6	Error logging into the PlayStation network	Make sure you are logged in to PSN before doing the network test. The error can also appear during maintenance work on the PSN. You can find the current PSN status here .
CE-30005-8	Failed to get internal hard drive or Blu-ray drive.	It seems your PS4 is having problems reading the data from your hard drive or Blu-ray drive. 1: Remove the CD from the PS4 drive and check that it is clean and has no damage. 2: If the CD is in good condition, start the safety mode and select [Restore database]. 3: If the error occurs again, contact PlayStation Support .
CE-32947-5	File could not be downloaded	1: Check if your PS4 is properly connecting to your network. To do this, go to [Settings]> [Network]> [Test internet connection]. 2: Delete the downloaded file (if it is in your library) and try to download it again. 3: If the error occurs again, contact PlayStation Support .
CE-32807-0	License error	1: First set your account with the error to secondary and then back to primary. To do this, go to [Settings]> [PSN]> [Activate as your primary PS4]> [Deactivate] and then [Activate] again. 2: Go to [Settings]> [PSN]> [Restore Licenses]> [Restore] 3: If the error occurs anyway, please try again later. It is possible that the PlayStation network is currently being worked on and the servers are not activated.
CE-34861-2	Connection to the server failed	1: If you have not had any problems with the Internet before, it could be that the servers of the respective game or the PlayStation Network are currently down. Check the status of both servers. 2: If you keep getting the error every time you connect to the internet, check your SSL settings.
CE-33983-6 CE-33984-7 CE-33985-8 CE-33986-9 CE-33987-0 CE-33988-1 CE-33989-2 CE-33990-4	Bad internet connection	1: The PlayStation Network could be currently inactive. Check the status here . Also check whether the servers of the respective game are not offline. 3: If the previous steps didn’t help, turn your router off for 5 minutes and then turn it on again. 2: If all servers are active, check whether your internet connection is working properly. go to [Settings]> [Network]> [Test Internet Connection]. 4: If step 3 did not help either, check whether the latest system software is installed on your router. If it doesn’t, update your router.
CE-35287-5	Connection to the server failed	The PlayStation network or the servers of the respective game are currently under maintenance. Please try again later.
CE-34224-5	System internal error	1: Back up your data with a USB stick or with PS +. Navigate to [Settings]> [Initialize]> [Reinitialize PS4] 2: Restore your backed up data. 3: If the error is not resolved, your hard drive may be defective. Try a different hard drive or contact PlayStation Support .
CE-35486-6 CE-35463-1	The CD cannot be played	1: Copied CDs are not recognized by the PS4. Check whether the CD used is an original one. 2: Supported formats: Blu-ray Disc: BD-ROM, BD-R / RE (BDAV, BDMV) DVD: DVD-ROM, DVD-R / RW (video mode, VR mode), DVD + R / RW Unsupported Formats: CD, BD-RE ver.1.0, BD-R / RE XL, DVDs that are incomplete 3: Check whether the CD is clean and not damaged. 4: If the CD is in good condition, start the safety mode and select [Restore database].
CE-30784-2	PS4 cannot recognize the USB stick	1: Make sure the USB stick supports USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. 2: Make sure that the USB stick is properly inserted into one of the USB ports on the PS4. Wait a short time before calling up the data on the stick. 3: Make sure that there are not multiple partitions on the USB stick. 4: Format the USB stick on a PC or Mac and try again.
CE-34305-5	Information cannot be read from the hard disk	1: Turn off the PS4 and then pull out the power supply. Then check whether the hard drive has been installed correctly . 2: If the problem persists, the hard drive may be defective or your PS4 needs a repair. To do this, contact PlayStation Support.
CE-30012-6	Internal error	1: Update the PS4 to the latest firmware 2: Clean the CD and check that it is not damaged. 3: Turn the PS4 off and on again.
CE-35230-3	Communication with the DNS server timed out	Navigate to [Settings]> [Network]> [Set up internet connection]> [individual] and change the DNS setting.
CE-34544-0	Application cannot start. The database could be damaged.	1: Make sure you have the latest firmware on your PS4 by navigating to [Settings]> [System Software Update]. 2: Make sure you have the latest version of the game installed. To do this, go with the cursor on the respective game and press the OPTIONS button and select [Check for updates] 3: If the error persists, start the safety mode and select [Restore database] 4: If the error persists after performing steps 1-3, pull the CD out of the drive slot. Then back up the saved data of the respective game and then delete it from the hard drive of your PS4. Reload the game and wait until the game is fully installed. Then check whether there is an update to the application and install it if necessary.
CE-35340-5	Error connecting “Live from PlayStation”	The service is currently under maintenance. Please try again later.
CE-35406-8	Error connecting between PS4 and PS Vita	In order to be able to use Remote Play it is required that both the PS4 and the PS Vita are logged in to the same profile.
CE-33191-7	No CD inserted	In order to play the game, you will need to insert the appropriate CD into the PS4 system.
CE-35489-9	Unsupported region	The region of the game or movie is not supported by your PS4 system. There is no way to change the setting of the region.
CE-33676-5	The file is either defective or the system cannot recognize it	1: If the error occurs when choosing a new design, try to download the relevant design again. 2: If the error does not appear in connection with the designs, navigate to [Settings]> [PSN]> [Restore Licenses]> [Restore] 3: If the error persists, start the PS4 in safety mode and select [7. Reinitialize PS4]
CE-33319-9	The video / screenshot cannot be uploaded because you have reached the service limit.	Please refer to the service provider’s upload guidelines. If you’re using Dailymotion, please review the upload guidelines and try again after 24 hours. Limits set since Sept. 2015: – 96 uploads per day – 2 hours of video per day – 60 minutes per video
CE-32921-7	The system cannot read the disc.	1: Eject the disc from the system and make sure it is not dirty, scratched, or damaged. 2: Make sure the format of the disc is supported by PlayStation 4. Supported disc formats: Blu-ray Disc: BD-ROM, BD-R / RE (BDAV, BDMV) DVD: DVD-ROM, DVD-R / RW (video mode, VR mode), DVD + R / RW Playback The following disc types are not supported: CD, BD-RE Ver.1.0, BD-R / RE XL, DVDs that have not yet been finalized 3: If the error persists, shut down the system, restart it in safe mode and try to rebuild the database using option 5 in secure mode.
CE-38612-0	The application data on the hard drive is likely partially damaged.	1: Save your game saves on a USB storage device or in the online storage of PlayStation Plus. 2: Delete the application, then reinstall it. To do this, follow the steps below: – Press the OPTIONS button on your controller while highlighting the application’s icon on the home screen, then select [Delete]. – If you have a disc version of the game, insert that into your PlayStation 4 system. If you purchased the game on PlayStation Store, go to the Library and download the application again. 3: If the error persists after performing these steps, go to [Settings]> [Initialization]> [Initialize PS4]> [Quick] and initialize the system. Then install the application. 4: Once you’ve updated your hard drive, you can try using the hard drive that came with your PlayStation 4 system.
CE-33126-5	Transfer must be canceled. The text or settings associated with this channel may be invalid.	Make sure the description of the YouTube broadcast is no more than 200 characters.
CE-35918-6	Disc could not be read.	1: Eject the disc from the PS4 system and check if it is dirty or damaged. 2: Enter another PS4 game disc, Blu-ray Disc, or DVD to see if it works. 3: If other discs can be read without any problems, the disc you are trying to use may be faulty and should be replaced. If other discs don’t work either, please contact PlayStation Support .
CE-36249-4	Content cannot be downloaded. The download date has not yet been reached.	1: Try to download the content again when the release date is closer. 2: To activate the automatic download function, go to [Settings]> [System]> [Automatic downloads and uploads] and activate> [Saved data and update file].
CE-33937-5	Content cannot be used. To use the content, buy it from the PlayStation®Store.	This content can only be used by people who have a license for it. If you want to use the content, buy it in the PlayStation®Store or switch users.
CE-34867-8	Wrong disc inserted.	Please insert the correct disc and restart the game.
CE-32951-0	There was a problem with the network connection.	If you cannot connect to the PlayStation Network (PSN), please try the following: 1: Make sure the PSN services are available. 2: If the PSN is available, test your internet connection. Go to [Settings]> [Network]> [Test Internet Connection] and check whether the connection to the Internet is possible. 3: Make sure the router has the latest firmware or software. You can get more information on this from the router manufacturer’s website or from your Internet provider.
CE-38702-0	No information could be obtained from the server. There may be problems with the network or the Internet connection.	1: restart your router. 2: restart the PS4. 3: Contact your internet service provider to check the status of your internet connection. 4: Reset the router and select [Settings]> [Network]> [Set up Internet connection] on your PlayStation 4 to reconnect the router. For details, see the instructions for use that came with the router. 5: Update the router’s firmware to get the latest version. For details, see the instructions for use that came with the router. 6: Select [Settings]> [Network]> [Test internet connection] and then check the status of your internet connection. 7: PlayStation ™ Network may be temporarily busy. Check the current status on playstation.com and try again later. 9: If you can’t connect to a service outside of the PlayStation ™ Network, check the status of the respective service. 8: Your firewall or security settings may prevent you from connecting to the network. CE-35413-6	Your remote play PIN is wrong.	Please enter the correct PIN.
CE-32930-7	Data downloaded to the hard drive may be damaged.	1: Go to the home screen and press the OPTIONS button while highlighting the content icon. Select [Delete] to delete the contents. 2: Then download the content again.
CE-38604-1	Application cannot be downloaded because a disc version of the game is installed.	– Highlight the application on the home screen and delete it by pressing the OPTIONS button and selecting [Delete]. Start the download again. – PlayStation 4 ensures that the saved game data is retained. However, extras for the game will need to be downloaded again.
CE-32869-8	The application could not start because the information was invalid. The database may be partially damaged.	1: Start the PlayStation 4 system in safety mode and select [5. Rebuild database]. 2: Attempt to start the app. If the error persists, restart the system in safety mode and select [3. Update system software] or [4. Rebuild database]. 3: If the error only occurs with a specific application, delete that application by pressing the OPTIONS button on your controller while highlighting the application on the Home screen and selecting [Delete]. Reinstall the application from PlayStation Store. 4: If the error occurs with several or all applications, back up your saved data in [Settings]> [Management of data saved by the application]> [Saved data in system memory] and initialize the PlayStation 4 system in [Settings]> [ Initialization]> [Initialize PS4]> [Fast].
CE-39984-3	PS4 received an IP address but cannot connect to the internet.	1: Check your network settings and perform an internet connection test. 2: If you’re using a Wi-Fi hotspot, you may need to log into the hotspot’s network to connect to the internet. 3: If you can’t open the PS4 internet browser, go to Settings> User Guide, which will show you a login page for the WiFi hotspot.
CE-35451-8	There was an error connecting to the server.	1: The PS4 system needs to be restarted. 2: If the error persists, there may be a persistent problem with the server. Please try again after a while. You can check the current network status at PlayStation.com .
CE-37704-1	The download was canceled because there was not enough space on the hard disk	1: Attempt to delete applications on the home screen by pressing the OPTIONS button on your controller and selecting [Delete]. You can re-download content from the library at any time. 2: If the error persists while downloading application update files, first delete the game application and then download the content again from the library.
CE-38706-4	Cannot connect to the server.	1: restart the PS4 system. 2: restart your router. 3: Contact your internet service provider to check the status of your internet connection. 4: Reset the router, select [Settings]> [Network]> [Set up Internet connection] and reconnect to the router. You can find detailed information in the instructions for use of the router. 5: Update the router’s firmware to the latest version. You can find detailed information in the instructions for use of the router. 6: Select [Settings]> [Network]> [Test internet connection] and check the status of your internet connection. 7: Firewall or other security settings may prevent you from connecting to the network. CE-35485-5	Disc cannot be played.	1: Check if the parental controls are preventing the disc from playing. 2: Make sure the disc is not dirty or scratched.
CE-34883-6	Your remote play PIN is wrong.	Enter the correct PIN.
CE-40852-9	A server error occurred.	– If the problem persists, customer support will help at eu.playstation.com/contact . – For more tips and advice on using a PlayStation system, visit the technical support forums at community.eu.playstation.com.
CE-38633-3	Your transmission was interrupted due to a server communication error.	The quality of your network connection may not be sufficient to support the selected transmission quality. Try the following: 1: Reduce the transmission quality. You can choose the quality when you start a broadcast on PS4. To do this, go to [Broadcast Game]> [Quality]. 2: Make sure your router has the latest firmware. Update your router’s firmware. You can obtain more detailed information on this from the operating instructions for the router or from your Internet provider. 3: Is the network overloaded? When a lot of people are online, the connection can slow down. Try again at another time.

CE-40911-5	PlayStation VR error code	You are getting this error code because you did not install the latest PS4 system software when you start PlayStation VR. The latest system software also includes the latest PS VR software. 1: Update your PS4, under [Settings]> [Update system software] 2: When your PS4 has restarted and the new system software is installed, switch on your PS VR. 3: The PS VR software will then be updated automatically.
CE-40305-2	An error occurred while updating the VR device software.	Step 1: Make sure your PS VR system (PS4, processor unit, and head-mounted unit) is properly and securely connected, and then try again. Step 2: Update the PS VR device software – instructions are below. 1: Make sure your console is online and that both your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR have been updated with the latest system software. 2: update your PS4 system software. NW-31374-8	The connection timed out.	Check your router’s firewall settings. UDP ports 3478 and 3479 must not be blocked. If you don’t know how to check this, contact the manufacturer of your router.
NW-31294-9	Failed to connect. The WiFi signal is unstable.	1: Check your network settings. Select [Settings]> [Network]> [Test network connection] 2: Switch off your router for 5 minutes. Update your router’s firmware. Reconnect.
NW-31201-7 NW-31194-8	Failed to connect to the network.	1: The PSN or the server of the respective game is currently unavailable. You can check the online status of the PSN here. 2: If the PSN is online, check your network settings. Select [Settings]> [Network]> [Test network connection] 3: Switch off your router for 5 minutes.
