Social media is down globally: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp crash
Major social networks, in particular Facebook and Instagram, stopped working for millions of users.
These include Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. All of these apps are owned by one company – Facebook.
The DownDetector service, which detects application crashes, shows a wave of complaints about these social networks.
There is no information yet on what exactly the failure is connected with and when the problem will be resolved.
“We know that some people have problems accessing our programs and products. We are working to normalize the situation as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience, ”said Facebook spokesman Andy Stone on Twitter.
Interestingly, in just a few minutes hashtags #facebookdown #instagramdown became one of the main global Twitter trends.
Cursor also wrote that a former Facebook employee accused the social network of facilitating the storming of the US Capitol. Facebook prematurely cut off precautions designed to thwart disinformation following Biden’s victory in the US presidential election. Thus, the social network contributed to fueling protests, which led to the storming of the Capitol on January 6.
