What is the range of a Wifi repeater?

The Wifi repeater is an excellent alternative to the wireless Internet connection. It allows you to enjoy a good speed, in a very simple and efficient way. But what is a WiFi repeater? How does it work ? What is its scope? Answers in outline.

What is a WiFi repeater?

Before knowing the range of a Wifi repeater, it is necessary to know what it is and how it works. The Wi-Fi repeater is, in fact, a small box that allows you to distribute Internet speed by extending the network coverage of your box.

To understand the concept, imagine that your box is located in the center of a bubble. The repeater is the one that will pick up the signal from the bubble in order to create a Wifi signal. In a way, it is a relay terminal. So it’s not an amplifier. In no way can it increase the connection speed. Its only mission is to transmit the signal it received from your box .

How does it actually work? The repeater picks up the signal from the router or box and immediately creates a copy. The latter will then be broadcast in the area/room where the repeater is placed. In other words, the distributor acts as a second Wifi box. To make it work, plug it in near your box or router. Wait a few seconds for a button to turn solid red. Then go to Settings and look at the internet status of the extender. Click on the Wifi icon in the taskbar. You can then log in.

For information: it is not necessary to configure your repeater at all times. The settings have been stored automatically. However, a reconfiguration is necessary if the WiFi network settings have been changed or reset to default.

The range of a Wifi repeater

Whether it’s a single-band or dual-band Wifi repeater, this device has a range of 50 meters and can manage two networks simultaneously. It has a speed of 1200 Mb/s (300 Mb/s + 900 Mb/s) to guarantee a better connection. Nevertheless, there are a few techniques to be able to increase the range, namely:

Place the repeater correctly:

To optimize the range of the connection distributor, it should be placed in an area covered by Wifi. Among other things, you must put it between your box and the room where the connection must be captured. Not to mention that the repeater should not be located too close or too far from your router. Attention ! Be careful not to install the repeater in a place not picked up by Wifi reception. If this all sounds complicated, check out the repeater positioning help feature.

Position the box correctly:

The location of your box or your router plays an important role in the range of a repeater. It is recommended to position it as it should (straight) so that it can offer better flow. To do this, remove the obstacles between the box and the repeater: furniture, opening, etc. Interference must be limited as much as possible to increase the power of WiFi.
