PDF-XChange Viewer (Windows)

If you want to convert the pages of a PDF document into a series of JPG images, you can easily turn to  PDF-XChange Viewer, a free PDF viewing software that works without requiring tedious installation procedures. To download it on your PC, connected to its official website, put the checkmark next to  Portable version (ZIP)  located in the right sidebar and click on the Download now button.

When the download is complete, open the zip archive you just downloaded by double-clicking on it, extract the contents to a folder of your choice and start the PDFXCview.exe executable. Then open the PDF to be transformed into JPG in the program and go to the File menu  > Export> Export as image.

In the window that opens, set the  JPEG – Joint Graphic Experts Group item from the Image Type drop-down menu and click on the Export button to start converting the document pages. If you want, you can also convert only the current page of the PDF or a  specific page range of the document (by selecting one of the options listed top left) and choose the folder in which to save the output images (by clicking on the Browse button  ).

Nitro Reader (Windows)

If you do not want to convert files from PDF to JPG in full, that is by exporting each page as an image, but you simply want to extract the photos that are inside the documents, contact Nitro Reader. As you may already know, this is an excellent free PDF reader that stands out for the many editing options present within it. Among these, precisely, there is also the one that allows you to take the images contained in PDF files.

To download the program on your PC, connected to its official website, fill out the form that is proposed to you with your personal data (you can safely use a temporary email address ) and click on the Download Reader button.

On the page that opens, close the box that invites you to subscribe to the Nitro newsletter and click on the Download Nitro Reader (32 Bit) button if you are using a 32-bit system or Download Nitro Reader (64 Bit) if you are using a 64-bit system bit to start the software download.

When the download is complete, double-click on it to open the file you have just downloaded (e.g. nitro_pdf_reader_64_dlm.exe ) and wait for all the files necessary for Nitro Reader to work (about 30MB of data). Then accept the conditions of use of the program, placing the checkmark next to the item I accept the terms of the license agreement and click on the Configuration button.

At this point, remove the checkmark from the items relating to the installation of the Nitro plugin for Internet Explorer and Firefox and to the setting of Nitro Reader as the default PDF reader on the PC and finish the program installation process by first clicking on Install and then on Yes and End.

Now, open the PDF from which you want to extract images in Nitro Reader and click on the Extract images button in the application toolbar. Then click on the Options button, select the JPG item in the two drop-down menus available in the window that opens and click first on OK and then on Extract to complete the operation.

Preview (Mac)

Do you use a Mac? So if you want to convert files from PDF to JPG you can use the Preview application included “standard” in OS X. All you have to do is open the source document and take you to the page to be converted into a photo.

Then select the Export item from the File menu, set the JPEG option from the Format drop-down menu  (in the window that opens) and complete the saving by choosing a folder of your preference.

PDF Toolkit + (Mac)

If you need to batch convert multiple pages or extract images from PDFs, turn to PDF Toolkit + instead, a great application available on the Mac App Store for $ 1.99. Using it is really a breeze.

All you have to do is select the Text / Images tab from the main program window, drag the PDF to convert to it and choose whether to extract images or save the pages of the document as images by clicking on the appropriate buttons.

SmallPDF (Online)

If you need to convert documents from PDF to JPG and don’t want to install new programs on your PC, try  Smallpdf. It is a completely free online service that allows you to convert and edit PDF files quickly. It does not require registration, works with all browsers (without requiring additional plugins) and has no upload limits.

To find out how it works, connect to its home page and drag the PDF to be transformed into JPG in the browser window. Then choose whether to extract the images from the document or whether to convert the pages of the file into individual JPG files by clicking on one of the two buttons that appear in the center of the screen, wait for the conversion to be completed and download the output images by clicking on the Download button like ZIP.

ZamZar (Online)

ZamZar is another online converter – in this case “universal”, not specifically dedicated to PDFs – to always keep in bookmarks. It requires no additional software and allows you to convert files with a maximum size of 100MB. It also supports converting multiple files in batch.

To use it, connected to its home page, click on the Choose files button and select the PDF to convert. Next, set the JPG option from the Step 2 drop-down menu, type your email address in the Step 3 field and click Convert to start the file transformation process.

When the operation is completed, you will receive an email containing the link to download the conversion result. Connect to the latter and click on the Download now button located next to the name of each JPG file to download the images to your computer.

Note: both SmallPDF and ZamZar protect the privacy of users by automatically deleting, within a few hours, all the files that are uploaded to their servers.
