Adobe Reader struggles on your PC and are you looking for a PDF program that can open documents faster? Do you need to merge or split multiple PDF documents but don’t know how to do it? You are in the right place.

I have here for you a series of applications dedicated to PDF files that are able not only to open them but also to modify them and create new ones starting from various types of digital documents. Install them on your computer and I assure you that you will no longer have any problems related to viewing or editing PDF files.

I almost forgot… these are totally free applications that you can safely use even on computers where Acrobat Reader is not installed. Let’s get to know them in more detail.

If you are looking for a good PDF program to view, edit and create documents in this file format, try Nitro Reader which through its user interface, simple and intuitive, allows you to add writings, arrows and annotations on PDFs, create PDF files from documents of Microsoft Office and more.

To download Nitro Reader on your PC, connected to the software website, enter your name, surname and email address in the appropriate text fields and click first on the Download Reader button and then on Download Nitro Reader (64 Bit) or Download Nitro Reader (32 Bit), depending on whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. If you are undecided, choose the 32-bit version.

When the download is complete, open the Nitro Reader installation package (eg nitro_pdf_reader_32_dlm – 3.exe ) and wait for all the components necessary for the setup to be downloaded from the Internet (this is about 30MB of data). In the window that opens, put the checkmark next to I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click first on the Install button and then on Yes and Finish to complete the installation of Nitro Reader.

At this point, click on the Set default programs button and click on Save to turn Nitro into your default PDF reader (i.e. the program that starts automatically when you open a PDF file). As for the document editing tools, you can find them all in the program’s Home tab.

By clicking on the Select button you can select and copy the text present in PDF documents, with the Add note button you can insert notes in the files, through the Markup text function you can highlight PDFs, while by clicking on the Type text button you can add customized texts to the documents opened in Nitro Reader. There are also functions to extract images from PDFs ( Extract images button ) and convert PDFs into simple text files ( Convert to text ). To save the changes applied to a document, use the floppy disk icon located at the top left.

If you want to create a PDF document starting from a Microsoft Office file or a photo, click on the Create from file button instead and, in the window that opens, use the Browse button to select the document to be transformed into PDF. Finally, click on the Create button and the output file will be automatically saved in the source document folder.

Another free PDF program that should definitely not be missing on your PC is   PDFill FREE PDF Tools. It is a “Swiss Army Knife” for digital documents that allows you to merge and split PDFs, create new PDFs from photos (and vice versa), scan documents to PDF, add watermarks to existing documents and much more.

To download PDFill FREE PDF Tools on your PC, connect to its official website and click first on the Download now button located under the heading  Get the entire PDFill package and then on  Download Now and  Download now. When the download is complete, open the PDFill FREE PDF Tools installation package ( PDFill.exe ) and click first on  Yes and then on  Next. Then place the checkmark next to the  I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click first on  Next twice in a row and then on  Install and  Finish to complete the setup.

When the installation is complete, start PDFill PDF Tools (Free) by clicking on its icon on the Windows desktop and, in the window that opens, click on the button for the function of the software you want to use.

• Merge PDF Files to merge PDFs.
• Split or reorder pages to split PDF or change the order of pages within a document.
• Encrypt and Decrypt optionsto encrypt / decrypt PDFs.
• Rotate or Crop PDF pages to rotate or crop PDF pages.

• Convert images to PDF to convert a series of images into a PDF document.
• Convert PDF to images to convert the pages of a PDF into a series of images.
• PDF form field operations to delete or create lists of data entered in PDF forms.

• Add PDF information to edit PDF file information (title, author, creation date, etc.).

If you use a Mac, I suggest you use the Preview application included “standard” in OS X to view PDFs and install PDF Toolkit +, a sort of PDFill PDF Tools for Apple systems that allows you to merge/split PDFs, optimize them dimensions, extract images from them and much more. I also told you about it in guides like the one dedicated to merging PDF files on Mac. It costs 1.79 euros.

On mobile devices, however, you can use Foxit Mobile which is available for iPad / iPhone and Android devices. This free app, created by the developers of Foxit Reader for Windows, allows you not only to view PDF files on smartphones and tablets but also to edit them by adding custom texts, arrows, highlights and more to them.
