“Memory could not be read” error when launching PUBG

Despite the popularity of the multiplayer online game PUBG, when it starts, there are precedents that are caused by the inability to play, with the positioning of an error associated with writing or reading memory (Written / Read). The following content (or similar) appears on the screen:

The essence of the error

Users encounter such malfunctions as “The memory cannot be Read or Written” mainly when launching PUBG or its derivatives. The problem situation can develop in the following scenarios:

  1. An error at the start of the game with the requirement to close the window, which causes a corresponding “crash”.
  2. An error directly in the gameplay.

Possible reasons:

  • Problem with Steam game files. If even one of any components is damaged or missing, the video game may not work correctly or not start (the most common case).
  • Overclocking components (processor, video card, etc.) can cause certain problems with the game.
  • Outdated video card (or inappropriate characteristics for the game).
  • Background apps conflict with PUBG causing problems.

There are several solutions to this problem.

Checking the integrity of game files on Steam

Launch Steam and right-click in the library on the problematic game.

  • You need the Properties tab.
  • Open Local Files.
  • Next, “Check the integrity of the game files.”

Launch it and Steam will check your game files. The process may take some time.

Disable component overclocking

There are 2 options here.

  1. Go to BIOS and select the “Load optimal setting” option. Further, according to the prompts to the function “bring BIOS to default”, i.e. reset settings. Then the F10 button, the computer will restart, and you can try to start the game.
  2. This method is simpler and faster. Turn off the computer and remove the cover. The motherboard has a shiny coin-shaped battery. Pull it out for about 5 minutes. and put it back in. This will reset the BIOS.

Updating video card drivers

It may well be that the error with launching PUBG is related to outdated or inappropriate drivers. Upgrading to a newer version will resolve the “Memory could not be read” error. Remember that you only need to download drivers from the official website:

https://video-nvidia.com/drivers

Regarding the NVIDIA video card – when updating, be sure to check the “Clean install” option, this action will overwrite the old default settings.

Disable background apps

Since the error “Memory cannot be …” – it is logical to check the memory on the PC, simultaneously freeing it from irrelevant processes. Many users are mistaken in thinking that the problem arises from the amount of RAM. In fact, the reason is in free memory, or rather, in its lack for the correct launch of PUBG. To eliminate the error, it is important to implement the disabling of unnecessary background applications and, accordingly, software components that load the RAM.

  • Open the “Task Manager” and go to the directory that displays the active processes for a given period.
  • Look at the processes running in the background, loading the system (for example, some kind of browser).
  • Disable all unnecessary.

If the player intends to use this browser in the gameplay – after playing the gameplay, the browser can be activated without any problems by switching directly to the “Desktop” using the ALT and TAB key combination.
