Preliminary information

Before getting to the heart of this guide and explaining, in practice, how to tune channels on Akai TV , let me give you some information about the currently available tuning modes and some checks to do “upstream”, before setting your hand. to the TV settings.

As is now known, digital terrestrial broadcasts have been the protagonists of a second important switch-off whose conclusion is scheduled for 2023 and which will lead to the affirmation of the DVB-T2 standard instead of the previous one (DVB-T). Before doing anything, therefore, you must make sure that your TV is compatible with DVB-T2 and, if not, you must purchase a digital terrestrial decoder that can remedy the problem. If you want to know more about the New Digital TV , consult the tutorial I dedicated to the topic.

Returning to channel tuning, you must know that it is possible to perform at least two types of tuning: the automatic one , which consists of clearing the channel list already present in the TV and replacing it with the list of new channels detected (useful option if, for example , you have recently changed the city / antenna or you have skipped the first configuration phase of the TV); and the manual one , which allows you to manually specify the stations to search for, by entering certain information in the dedicated menu.

The latter solution is successful when, for example, a specific broadcaster has changed the transmission frequencies, or if the signal problems are limited to only some channels. In order to proceed with the manual tuning operation, it is essential to obtain the precise frequencies relating to the broadcaster of your interest.

If necessary, you can obtain this information directly from the Internet, even by carrying out a quick search on Google (eg “Channel 5 Campania frequencies” ): there are in fact web portals designed specifically for the purpose and which contain all the information requested.

For example, an excellent site from which to immediately retrieve the necessary information is certainly Dtti , a portal that allows you to discover the frequencies of all digital terrestrial channels, city by city. To use it, first of all connected to the web page indicated above, choose your region from the proposed list; scroll the page until you find your province and, within it, select your city . Soon after, a new page should open showing all the channels that can be received from the selected city, with their frequencies .

The key information to write down to manually add the channel of your interest to the Akai TV in question is the channel number (Ch) and the frequency number (Freq) ; on some models, it is also useful to know the polarization (o) of the frequency of your interest.

Note : some channels can be included in a so-called Mux , ie they can be transmitted “in group” with other channels, on the same frequency.

How to tune channels on non-Smart Akai TVs

Tuning in channels on an Akai TV not equipped with Smart features is very simple: all you have to do is go to the dedicated section of the TV menu and let the digital receiver do the rest. Find everything explained below.

Automatic tuning

Usually, the first automatic tuning of channels on Akai TVs is carried out during the first configuration of the device: after choosing the language of the menus and the country to which you belong, you must in fact specify the type of search to be carried out (e.g. digital on antenna) and follow the short guided tutorial to complete the automatic frequency tuning.

If, for some reason, you have not carried out this operation, you have moved the television from its initial antenna or you find yourself with a completely empty channel list, you can call up the first configuration procedure (and first installation of the channels) whenever you wish. : to do this, press the Menu button on the remote control, select the General item from the panel that appears on the screen and press the OK button on the remote control.

Now, in a similar way, open the First Setup section and use the menus that appear on the screen to adjust the use and tuning options: set the OSD Language to Italian , select the Home Mode item from the Configuration Mode drop-down menu and set the Country menu to Italy .

Next, choose the Antenna item from the Tuner Type drop-down menu , indicate that you want to detect the digital terrestrial channels by setting the Automatic scan drop-down menu to DTV and set the LCN option to On , to ensure that the channels are sorted according to the national standard numbering (number 1 for Rai 1, number 2 for Rai 2, number 5 for Canale 5, number 7 for La7 and so on).

Finally, press the Start button and wait patiently for the automatic frequency scan to complete and for the detected channels (both TV and radio) to be added to the TV list. If you see a window relating to the LCN conflict , click on the Yes button , to authorize the TV to resolve any problems found.

If you do not intend to delete the entire channel list every time, but only want to add new ones that are not yet present, go to the Settings> Channels> Automatic scan menu : then set your country from the dedicated drop-down menu, choose you want to scan type DTV and press the Start button . At the end of the procedure, all the new channels found will be added to the already existing list.

Manual tuning

If you prefer to manually tune the channels, after you have obtained the frequencies of the broadcasters you are interested in, open the TV Main Menu by pressing the button of the same name on the remote control and go to the Channel> Manual scan> Digital manual scan sections .

If everything went well, you should see a slightly “obscured” panel, through which you can manually scroll through the available channel numbers: for the search to be successful, try to match the channel with the frequency number noted previously (you can view the current frequency next to the field of the same name); once you have identified the right one, make sure that the signal is sufficiently clear (you can check it by looking at the Strength item which, ideally, should indicate a value equal to or greater than 70% ) and, to start the search, press on the Start item .

The Akai TV management program will immediately start searching for any channels present in the frequency selected above, automatically adding the new channels found (and not previously present)

How to tune channels on Akai Smart TV

If your AKAI TV is equipped with Smart features and an Android operating system , you can access the tuning options from the main menu of the unit itself. Find everything explained below.

Automatic tuning

To perform automatic channel tuning , press the Menu button on the remote control and use the directional arrows to select the Channel / Channel option ( antenna -shaped ); now, press the Enter key on the remote control to access the menu of the same name, positioned on the Antenna Type / Antenna type item using the up or down directional arrow and set it to the Air / Air option .

Once this is done, select the Auto Scan item , press the OK button on the remote control and adjust the options you see on the screen as follows, using the directional arrows and the Enter button on the remote control: set the Country / Country item to Italian , Move the lever corresponding to the wording LCN to ON / Active , set the Search type / Search type menu to Digital / Digital and press the Start Scan / Start Scan item to start automatic channel tuning.

Should you be asked, once the request is complete, resolve any LCN conflicts by selecting the channel you prefer to add to the list from those that overlap and pressing the Enter button on the remote control each time.

Manual tuning

Instead, to manually tune the channels, press the Menu button on the remote control, reach the Channel / Channel section and, after setting the Antenna type / Antenna type option on Air / Air , select the Digital manual scan / Digital manual scan and press the Enter button on the remote.

At this point, you just have to make the Frequency name / Frequency number coincide with a channel having a frequency as close as possible to the one you previously identified; finally, after verifying that the signal level is sufficiently strong (ideally, it should have an intensity higher than 75%), select the Start Scan item located at the top, press the Enter key on the remote control and wait patiently for the detection ( and the simultaneous addition) of the new channels is completed.

In case of problems

Unfortunately, the problems relating to channels do not always strictly concern the settings of the TV: if, for example, some channels are “empty” or have a fairly noisy signal, the cause could be attributable to poor quality of the antenna used, to its bad orientation. or a problem with the transmitting antenna in your area or that of the broadcaster: the latter two are very likely when extreme weather situations occur (for example, particularly intense thunderstorms). In this regard, wait for the weather conditions to “normalize”and try to carry out a new tuning of the channels, using one of the procedures that I have previously reported: with a bit of luck, you should be able to receive the problematic stations, without any problem.

And if you believe that the malfunction is totally attributable to your antenna and you are familiar with the sector, I recommend that you carefully read my guide on how to orient your TV antenna , in which I explained the most effective techniques to be able to amplify the signal and solve problems. most common tuning keys. However, I recommend that you act independently only if you have the necessary skills and, above all, in absolutely perfect weather conditions: otherwise, do not hesitate to contact a specialized technician in the sector, who will certainly be able to solve your problem (or give you clear indications about a potential autonomous resolution). Please, avoid unnecessary dangers !

If you are unable to cope with your problem and you suspect that your TV is damaged (e.g. due to a failed software update), please try to contact Akai customer care by calling number 0331.329973 , at the cost of a local call; the service is active from Monday to Friday , from 09:00 to 12:30 .
