How to see who is online on Instagram

It’s been a few hours since you posted your last vacation photos on Instagram, but none of your friends have liked them yet. People following you have most likely not connected yet and, for this reason, may not have seen them. However, you would like to make sure of this and, for that reason, you are wondering how to see who is online on Instagram.

In this case, you will be happy to know that you can do it first of all by using the specific Instagram function, but also by using other official tools of the popular social network which, as I will explain in the next chapters, allow you to control the activities of other users in order to know when I’m online.

Check the last login on Instagram

As mentioned above, to see who is online on Instagram you can make use of some native functions of the photographic social network, first of all the Status of activity, which allows you to know the date and time of the last access made by users.

This tool, however, has a reciprocity constraint and, therefore, if you want to use it, the functionality in question must also be previously activated on your account.

Furthermore, it is necessary to clarify that it is not possible to see the last access of all users, but only of those to whom you have sent a private message or who have mentioned you in their Story. Finally, of course, you can’t see the activity status for users blocked or from whom you have been blocked.

To activate the activity status in the Instagram app for Android and iPhone, go to the Settings> Privacy> Activity status section and move the switch located at the item Show activity status to ON.

From Instagram Web or from the Instagram application for Windows 10 and later, instead, you need to go to the Settings> Privacy and security section and put the checkmark on the item Show activity status.

Having made the necessary premises, let’s see in detail how to see who is online on Instagram, checking the status of activity on Instagram.

From Android and iOS

The first thing you need to do, if you want to check the last access on Instagram from smartphones and tablets, is to start the Instagram app on your device, log in to your account (if required) and press the small house icon located at the bottom to the left.

In the screen that is shown to you, tap on the airplane symbol located at the top right or, if you prefer, swipe to the right, so as to access the Direct section and view the users with whom you have exchanged private messages or who they mentioned you in a story.

As soon as you have identified the user you are interested in, check the wording that is present immediately under his name, to understand if he is online or if he has recently connected. In this case, the words that you may see are the following.

• Active now– the user is currently online on Instagram.
• Active [ N] min ago – the user is not online, they were until a few minutes ago.
• Active today– the user has logged in during the day, but has not logged in to their account for several hours.
• Active yesterday– the user has not logged in to their Instagram account for a day.

From PC

Even acting from a PC, connecting to the official Instagram site or using the Instagram application for Windows 10 and later versions, you can see the activity status, through the section dedicated to private messages. The procedures to be carried out are the same in both cases.

To start, then, log in to your account (if you have not already done so) and press on the airplane icon located in the upper right corner.

By doing so, you will be able to see the section of private messages on the screen: identify, therefore, the user of your interest and refer to the wording in correspondence with his name, to find out what was the last time he logged in to Instagram.

See who views a story

Another way to see who is online on Instagram is to create a Story, so you can see who is viewing it. In fact, if the person of your interest is indicated among those who have seen your story, it means that, of course, he is online or has recently been connected to the social network. Here’s how to proceed.

From Android and iOS

After publishing a story on Instagram, to see who has viewed it, log in to your account in the Instagram app and, if necessary, and press your profile icon (top left), in order to see the stories you have published.

Once this is done, swipe down and refer to the People who viewed section, in which you will be shown the list of people who have seen your Story and, therefore, presumably, are online or have recently been.

From PC

If you prefer to act as a PC, you can connect to the official Instagram site or use its application for Windows 10 and later. After logging into your account, go to your profile screen and click on your profile picture, so you can see the stories you have posted.

Then, press on the word Viewed from located at the bottom and refer to the Views screen, in which you will be shown all the names of the people who have viewed your Story and, therefore, are presumably online (or have recently been).

Control the activities of others

Another way to see when users have logged into Instagram is to monitor the activities of others. How? For example by checking the Stories or Posts published by the latter: an operation feasible with the functions included directly in Instagram.

From Android and iOS

To see the activities carried out by a user on Instagram from smartphones and tablets, start the social network app, log in to your account (if required) and use the search engine (the magnifying glass icon ), to search the person of your interest.

Once this is done, go to his profile and tap on his profile picture to see the latest Story he posted. Then refer to the publication date located above and you will be able to know when was the last time that the person in question was active on Instagram (at least in relation to the Stories).

In the event that the user in question has not published any Stories, you can refer to the Posts: by pressing on the image relating to the last published Post, you can in fact view the publication date of the same, in order to assume when the last time the person was active on Instagram.

From PC

To see a user’s Stories or Posts, you can also act from a PC. To do this, connect to the official Instagram site or log in to your account using the Instagram application for Windows 10 and later.

Once this is done, identify the user of your interest, in order to go to his profile. At this point, click on their profile picture, to see the latest Stories published and to know when the person was active on Instagram in relation to the Stories, via the date of publication of the content in question.

Similarly, you can assume what was the day or time of the last access to Instagram through the Posts: then click on the image of the last Post published by the user of your interest, to see the date or time. of publication of the same.

Turn on post and story notifications

Activating the notifications of posts and Stories is another solution that can be useful for you to know when a user is online, since as soon as they publish a new photo, a new video or add new content to a Story you will be informed via a notification.

From Android and iOS

To activate notifications relating to the publication of Posts or Stories by a user of your interest, start the Instagram app on your Android or iOS device, log in to your account (if necessary) and go to their profile (just type in the name in the search engine and press on his profile photo ).

Once this is done, press the Follow button (in case you do not already follow the user), then tap the button with the bell icon, at the top right, and move the lever relating to notifications for Posts and Stories to ON.

From PC

From a PC, via the official Instagram site or using its Windows application, it is not possible for the moment to activate notifications for content posted by other users. Therefore, what I suggest you do, once logged into your account, is to identify the profile of the user of your interest.

Finally, to stay up to date on the content he publishes, in order to know when he is online on Instagram, press the Follow button.

By doing so, the Posts and Stories he shares will be shown to you in the Instagram Feed (the house icon ) and, by keeping this section monitored, you will still be able to succeed in the intent you have proposed.
