Preliminary information

Before going into the details of this guide and explaining how to save a position on Google Maps, you should know that this feature allows you to save specific places on the map to find them quickly from any device associated with the same Google account.

In addition to the possibility of saving favorite places, it is also possible to set the address of your home and/or office, in order to obtain quick directions and to reduce the data to be typed.

In addition, the Google Maps application for Android and iOS devices also features the Set as parking position function, which allows you to easily find your car when parking in large car parks or in little-known areas.

How to save the position on Google Maps from smartphones and tablets

If you have a smartphone or tablet equipped with Android or if you are wondering how to save a position on Google Maps on iPhone, it will be useful to know that the procedure to follow is very simple and is identical regardless of the device used.

First, start the Maps app for Android or iOS and make sure you are logged in with your Google account. If not, tap the ≡ button located at the top left and press the Login item, then tap the Continue button, select your Google account (or choose the Use another account option ), enter the password in the appropriate field and press the Next button.

Now, enter the address of the place you want to save in the Search here field, make sure that the place displayed on the map is correct and tap on the Save item in the menu below. Alternatively, to save a position, make a long tap on the point of your interest on the map, until the word Placeholder inserted is shown on the screen. Then press on the placeholder in question and tap on the Save option.

Regardless of the choice made previously, now select the list in which to add the saved position, choosing one of the options visible on the screen among Favorites, To visit and Special places; otherwise, select the item New list to create a custom list. In the latter case, enter the name you want to assign to the list in the List name field, press the Create button and the saved position will be automatically added to the new list created.

In case of second thoughts, you can remove a location saved in Google Maps in a very simple way. First, tap the ≡ button, select the Your places option from the proposed menu and choose the Saved tab. In the new screen displayed, then tap on the list of your interest, press on the position to be deleted and tap on the Saved option, then press again on the selected list and the message Removed from [list name] will confirm the deletion. . To also delete a previously created list, tap on its three dots icon, select the Delete List option and that’s it.

If, on the other hand, your intention is to save the location of your home or office, tap the ≡ button located at the top left, choose the Your places option from the menu that appears and, in the Labeled section, click on the item Home or Work.

In the new screen displays, enter the address of your interest in the Home address or Work address field, otherwise select one of the options available between Choose on map or Choose from contacts: by doing so, wherever you are, to get directions to reach your home or office, simply type Home or Office in the Search Here field of Maps (above).

It will be useful to know that, in addition to Home and Office, you can also create new labels (eg School, Gym etc.) by entering a location to save and selecting the Label option. To do this, type the address of your interest in the Search here field, click on the Label item in the bottom menu and select one of the options visible under the Suggestions item, or enter the name of the label in the Enter a label field. Then press the Finish button and that’s it.

In doing so, just like labels House and Office, not only you can see the labels created by pressing the button ≡ and selecting Your places, but you get to the location in question even by simply typing the label name (eg. Gym ) in the Search Here field of Maps.

Do you want to save the position of where you parked the car on Google Maps? In this case, after parking, start the Google Maps app and tap on the paper airplane icon located at the bottom right, in order to view your position on the map.

If you have not yet allowed the app to access your location, you will see the word Enable geolocation in Google Maps on the screen. Press, therefore, on the Go to Settings button, tap on the Location item  and choose one of the options available between While using the app and Always.

Now, click on the blue circle icon (which indicates your position), choose the option Set as parking position from the menu that appears below and, automatically, a pin on the map identified by the letter ” P ” will be inserted. Next, all you have to do to get back to your car is to start Google Maps, press on the parking pin and choose the Directions and Start options, to get the driving directions and get to the location where you parked.

If, on the other hand, you want to remove the position set as parking, tap on the placeholder in question and choose the Delete option from the menu at the bottom.

How to save your location on Google Maps from your computer

As you well know, Google Maps is also accessible from a computer, through its official website. As well as from smartphones and tablets, also in this case, to save a position or add a place to the list of favorite places, you must log in with your Google account.

Then connect to the official Google Maps site and, if you have not already done so, press the Login button, located at the top right. Then select your Google account, enter the password in the Enter password field and press the Next button.

Now, all you have to do to save a location is to enter its address in the Search on Google Maps field (top), click on the Save option in the left sidebar and choose the list in which to save the place ( Favorites, To visit, Special places ). Alternatively, select the New List option to create a custom list of places, enter the name in the field provided and click the Create button to complete the operation.

It will be useful to know that you can also add a position to a list by clicking on the ≡ button located at the top left, selecting the Your places option and clicking on the Saved item. Then choose the list of your interest (or click on the + button to create a new one) and press the Add place button (if the selected list already has a place, tap on the three dots icon and choose the Edit list option ), then select the  Add a place item, specify its address or name in the Search for a place to add field and press on it to add it to the previously chosen list.

Is the location to be saved your home or work office address? In this case, click on the down arrow icon under the Google Search field and choose the Set home address option or the Set work address item.

Then enter the address of your interest in the Edit home address or Edit work address field and press the Save button to save the changes.
