How to remove Minecraft water

If you are wondering how to get rid of Minecraft water, you need to know that you can follow different paths to achieve your goal, depending on what you need. Before actually showing you how to proceed, however, it is good that you are familiar with how water works.

First, you have to have the water in Minecraft start out as a “block” and then expand. Going, therefore, to remove what is created from the original block will not stop the source. For this reason, when you need to remove water, you should always do it starting from the source, so that all the water originating from it is drained.

However, don’t worry, this is not a particularly complex procedure. Furthermore, I reassure you by telling you that the information I am about to show you applies both to the Java Edition of Minecraft, which is the version of the game available exclusively on PC, and to the Bedrock Edition, which is the version available on consoles, mobile devices and PC with Windows. 10 and later. For this reason, you can use this guide no matter which version of Minecraft you are using. Read on to find out how to proceed.

Use a bucket

The simplest method you can use to remove the water inside Minecraft is to use a Bucket. Thanks to it, you can collect the water and even use it later, so as not to waste it in case you need it.

If you don’t know how to get a Bucket, you can check out my tutorial about it where I show you how to make a Bucket in Minecraft. After creating the object in question, all you have to do is grab it and right-click on the water you want to “collect”.

As I mentioned in the previous chapter, if you want to remove water, you must always act on the “block” that acts as a source. Also in this case, therefore, to use a Bucket to remove water, you must do it directly on the source: doing it on a part of the water that is not the original one will not give any results, so I advise you to identify the source before use the bucket.

I also recommend that you start collecting the water from the sides and not from the center, otherwise you may not remove the water properly. If there are at least two sources of water around a block, in fact, these will be enough to reform a water source infinitely, so it is best to gradually remove it.

However, I suggest that you only use this method when you need to remove a small puddle of water, as it can be very costly both in terms of resources and time. If, on the other hand, you are dealing with a larger pool of water, continue reading this guide to discover other more effective methods that you can put into practice.

Place blocks

Another method you could use to remove water on Minecraft is to make use of the use of blocks. All you have to do, in this case, is to place the blocks on the water sources you want to remove, in order to replace them with the latter.

If it is a rather deep water source, I recommend that you use blocks subject to gravity (including SandRed Sand and Gravel ). By positioning yourself at the highest point of the pool of water, in fact, you can drop the blocks to the bottom and you will be able to remove each source of water without too much effort.

Once you have covered all the water sources, if you need them, you can remove all the blocks you have placed. You will see that the water has been completely drained and that you can start taking advantage of the space you have just cleared.

Use sponges

One of the most effective methods to remove water on Minecraft is undoubtedly through the use of Sponges, even if they are rather difficult objects to find. These have the purpose of absorbing the water that is around them, so as to drain any puddles of water in a few moments.

To find the Sponges, you must first find an Ocean Temple. The latter, as you may have guessed, is generated under the water inside the Ocean biome. To deal with the latter I recommend that you equip yourself well, given the presence of large quantities of hostile mobs and take the necessary precautions to be able to breathe underwater. After you get there, explore the temple to find the Sponges, which randomly spawn inside the structure.

The Sponges found in the Ocean Temple are in the form of Wet Sponges, as they are located underwater, so you must dry them before using them. To do this, get a Furnace and place the Wet Sponges with some fuel in it. The result will be one Sponge for each wet Sponge you cook.

Once you’ve finally gotten the Sponges, it’s time to use them. To make them take effect, you must place them inside a pool of water: once this is done, all the water that is around the Sponge (with a radius of about 7 blocks ) will be absorbed by it, which it will turn into a wet Sponge. To be able to reuse it, therefore, you will have to cook it again in a Furnace as I showed you a moment ago.

I warn you, however, that depending on the type of puddle you are trying to remove, you may need to help yourself by using blocks, as certain puddles are made from too many sources to be removed even with Sponges.

Remove the water on Minecraft with the controls

If the methods I’ve shown you to remove water in Minecraft aren’t enough for you, you might think about resorting to using commands. In order to use them, however, make sure you are in a world that has the cheats activated, otherwise, these will not work. In case you don’t know how to do it, I invite you to consult my guide where I show you how to activate the cheats on Minecraft.

The command in question is as follows: /fill. Using it properly, you can remove water, or any other blockage, with ease.

For example, if you simply take the water to a certain point, you have to open the chat by pressing T (or pressing on ‘ icon of the cloud if you’re using a mobile device), and type the following command, valid for the Java Edition: /fill X1 Y1 Z1 X2 Y2 Z2 air. If you are playing Minecraft with Bedrock Edition, however, the command to type is as follows: /fill X1 Y1 Z1 X2 Y2 Z2 air 0.

The X1Y1 and Z1 values must be replaced with those of the coordinates from which you want to start executing the command, while the X2Y2 and Z2 values must be replaced with the final coordinates.

By executing this command, all the area you select will be automatically emptied of any material, including, of course, water.

If you want to remove only the water or replace it with other blocks, you can use the command /fill X1 Y1 Z1 X2 Y2 Z2 [blocco1] replace water for the Java Edition of Minecraft, or the command /fill X1 Y1 Z1 X2 Y2 Z2 [blocco1] 0 replace water 0for the Bedrock Edition.

All you have to do is replace the [block1] field with the air value if you want to remove the water, or with the ID of the block, you want to replace the water with. To find the ID of a block you are interested in, just google “Minecraft id” and add the name of the block in question and the version of Minecraft you are using between Java and Bedrock. For this kind of thing, however, I invite you to pay attention to the sites you visit by checking their reliability.

As you can see, therefore, the command /fill can be used in various ways and is particularly useful for this kind of situation. If you want to know more about its use, I refer you to my special guide where I explain how to use the fill command on Minecraft.

How to take the rain off in Minecraft

If your purpose was to remove the rain in Minecraft, know that you will need to resort to the use of commands, as the only other alternative would be to simply wait for it to stop raining by itself. In this regard, I refer you to my guide where I explain how to remove the rain on Minecraft.
