How to remove green underline in word

How to remove green underline in word: The green underline only appears in older versions of the Microsoft Office software suite that were released between 2003 and 2010. This indicates the presence of a grammatical error, most often punctuation. The logic for fixing the problem is similar in all voiced applications, but there are significant differences in the interface and the names of some menu items.

How to remove green underline in word

Method 1: Correcting errors

The dictionary of Russian spelling rules built into the text editor works quite accurately, therefore, to eliminate green underlines, all grammatical errors should be corrected. You can do this manually – thoughtfully reread the problematic passages of sentences and correctly place punctuation marks.

If knowledge of the Russian language is not enough to cope with this task, you can use the help of Microsoft Word. The application gives hints for correction, to view them you need to right-click on the highlighted sentence. In addition to a description of the problem, a corrective option will be immediately provided in the context menu. Thus, you don’t even need to enter anything manually, you just need to click on the proposed replacement to make corrections to the spelling.

If there are a lot of grammatical errors in the text, right-clicking on each one is quite tiring. In this case, it is recommended to use the spell check window, which provides all the necessary tools for viewing controversial points in the text with their subsequent elimination.

    1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the first paragraph, go to the “Review” tab and click on the button “Spelling” located on the left side of the toolbar.
    1. In the window that appears, the problematic section of the text will be displayed in the “Suggestion” field, and justification will be provided in the “Options” block. If possible, click on the replacement and click “Edit” to edit the sentence and move on to the next error.

If one of the proposed options is not correct or it cannot be highlighted for use as a replacement, then make changes directly to the text in the “Suggestion” field . After that, also click the “Edit” button

  1. Do the same with all subsequent problem passages, after which the green underlines will be completely removed.

Note! During manual typing, it is recommended to use the context menu to correct grammatical errors immediately in the course of writing. This will speed up printing. If you have to process a large amount of already written material, then it is better to edit through the “Spelling” window .

Method 2: Ignore Errors

Microsoft Word algorithms may incorrectly detect punctuation and grammatical errors in text. In such cases, to remove the green underline, you will need to skip the check through the context menu or the spelling window. To implement the first, right-click on the selection and select the “Skip Suggestion” option .

If there are many errors in the material, we recommend using the spell check menu to speed up the process. You can call it through the “Review” tab , as described in the previous instruction, or by pressing the hot key F7 . After the corresponding window appears, constantly click on the “Ignore All” button until grammatical errors are marked as misidentified.

Method 3: Disable grammar checking

You can turn off automatic grammar checking so that sentences in documents don’t have green underlines at all. To do this, you need to go to the program settings and deactivate the corresponding option.

Note! Completely disabling grammar check is not recommended if text processing involves high-quality editing. In this case, the probability of missing defects will increase significantly, since the application algorithms will no longer highlight problem areas in the document.

    1. Open the main menu of the program by clicking on the Microsoft Office logo in the upper left corner. After that, go to the settings by clicking the ” Word Options” button .
    1. In the window that opens, on the “Spelling” tab, uncheck the box “Automatically check grammar” and click on the button “OK” to apply the changes.

Important! In Microsoft Word 2007 – 2010, it is possible to disable grammatical error checking only in a currently open document or in all documents created in the future. To do this, select your preferred option in the “Exclusions for the file” block and check the box next to the option “Hide grammatical errors in this document only” .

If necessary, you can return the original settings back so that the problematic areas of the text become highlighted again. This is done in the same settings window.

Option 2: Microsoft Word 2003

In Microsoft Word 2003, all of the above methods for removing green underlines in a document can also be applied. The only difference is in the graphical design of the program, which is noticeable in the screenshots below.

Editing through the context menu requires the same steps. But calling the spelling window is done differently. To do this, open the “Tools” menu and select “Spelling” or simply press the F7 key .

A window similar to that displayed in Microsoft Word 2007-2010 will open. You should use the buttons located in it to select the appropriate action.

If you need to disable grammar checking completely, you should open the options window. This is also done in the “Tools” menu , where you need to click on the corresponding item.

After that, on the “Spelling” tab, uncheck the option “automatically check grammar” or in the “Grammar” block, check the box next to the line “do not highlight misspelled words” . Then do not forget to click the “OK” buttonso that the changes made are saved.

Note! All changes made to the settings in Microsoft Word 2003 will be automatically applied to other documents opened in the program of this version. Therefore, if necessary, you will need to return the default settings.
