How to recover deleted files from mobile: Android

Do you own an Android phone and would like to understand how to recover deleted files in this case? Then use the resources listed below and follow the relevant instructions for use.

Cloud services baskets

If you use cloud storage services for file storage on your Android device , you can first try to recover deleted files from your phone by looking at their recycle bin , using your browser . Find explained how to proceed below for what are the main services belonging to the category in question.

  • If you use Google Drive, connected to the home page of the service , log in to your account (if necessary), click on the Trash item that you find in the left sidebar, select the items you want to recover and then press the button with the arrow circular  present at the top right.
  • If you use Dropbox, go to the home page of the service , log in to your account (if required), select the Deleted files item in the left sidebar, select the deleted file you want to recover and click on Restore .
  • If you use OneDrive, visit the home page of the service , log in to your account (if necessary), select the Trash item from the navigation pane, select the files to restore and press Restore .

DiskDigger

If you need to recover deleted files from your Android phone, but you couldn’t find anything on the cloud, I suggest you try  DiskDigger . It is an application that is installed directly on the phone and allows you to recover any type of file accidentally deleted from the memory of the terminal or from microSD cards (in the case of terminals with expandable memory). It is available in two versions: a free one that allows you to recover only photos in JPG and PNG format and MP4 videos and a paid one (costs 3.37 euros) which also supports music, PDF documents, Office files, APK applications and ZIP archives. Either way, it needs root to work properly .

To download and install the app on your device, go to the relevant section of the Play Store and press the Install button (if you are using a device on which Google services are missing, you can download the app from alternative stores ). Then, start the app by selecting its icon that has been added to the home screen and / or drawer.

Once the main screen of the app is displayed, grant DiskDigger the required permissions , then if you want to recover deleted files from the Samsung mobile phone for free , if you want to recover deleted files from the Huawei mobile or in any case to intervene on any other brand of smartphone, select the drive from which you want to recover deleted files, check the box next to the format of your interest and press the OK button to start the search.

Once the scanning procedure is complete, select the thumbnails of the found files you want to recover, tap the Recover button located at the bottom and decide whether to save the data obtained in a folder on the phone, on one of the supported cloud storage services or on an FTP server , by selecting the folder icon , the cloud icon or the arrow icon respectively .

Undeleter

Another good tool you can decide to use is  Undeleter . It allows you to restore practically any kind of file, therefore to recover audio files deleted from the mobile phone , but also video files, photos, documents, etc. It is free, but to save the recovered data you need to make in-app purchases (at a cost of 3.19 euros). Even then, you are prompted for root (without it you can only scan the app cache).

To use Undeleter, pick up the app from the relevant section of the Play Store (or from alternative stores ) and start it by selecting the icon that has just been added on the home screen and / or in the drawer.

Now that you are shown the main screen of the app, grant it the necessary permissions , indicate the location where you want to search for the removed files you want to recover and select the types of files to restore, then press the Scan button .

Once the analysis process is complete, you will be shown the data that can be recovered: you select the ones you are interested in, then press the button with the three vertical dots at the top right, choose the item Save the file from the menu that opens and indicates the output position.

How to recover deleted files from mobile: iPhone

Now let’s move on to the iPhone side and let’s see how to recover deleted files from the mobile phone in this case. To find out which tools are useful for the purpose you can consider relying on, read on.

ICloud Trash

If you use iCloud on your iPhone and have deleted files from the device that were stored on Apple’s cloud storage service, you can use the latter’s recycle bin to recover them.

In this case, what you need to do is start the browser, go to the iCloud website , log in with your account (if necessary), select  your name at the top right and choose the Account Settings item from the menu that appears. On the page that opens, select the Restore file item located at the bottom left, indicate the files you want to recover and press the Restore button to complete the operation.

If you then use other cloud storage services on your “iPhone by”, such as Google Drive , Dropbox and OneDrive , I inform you that even in this case you can recover the files, proceeding in the same way as I indicated in the step at the beginning of the tutorial. related to Android .

EaseUS MobiSaver (Windows / macOS)

Unfortunately for iPhone there are no apps that allow you to recover deleted files from your mobile phone, so if with cloud services you can’t find the deleted data of your interest, the only way you can go is to try to rely on the use of  EaseUS. MobiSaver Free . It is a computer software that allows you to recover data from the iPhone, in fact. There is for Windows (on which it requires iTunes to be installed to work ) and macOS and allows you to intervene on the phone memory or on backups (both locally and on iCloud). It’s free, but it allows you to save one photo or video at a time or five contacts at a time. To recover more data you need to switch to the paid version (costs 64.95 euros).

To download EaseUS MobiSaver, connect to the program’s website and click on the Free Download button marked with the logo of the operating system you are using.

Once the download is complete, if you are using Windows , open the .exe file obtained and, in the window you see appear on the desktop, click on the Yes button , then select Italian as the language for the interface and click on the OK button . Then press the Next button , select the item I accept the terms of the license agreement and click the Next button again (two more times), deselect the items relating to the installation of any additional tools and complete the setup by pressing the Next , Install buttons and End .

If you are using macOS , on the other hand, open the .dmg package obtained and drag the EaseUS MobiSaver icon into the Mac Applications folder , then right-click on it and press the Open item twice consecutively, so as to go around the restrictions applied by Apple against non-certified developers (an operation that must be carried out only at the first start).

Now that the program window is displayed on the screen, connect the iPhone to the computer using its charging cable, click on the Recover from iOS device button , select the device name and start the analysis procedure by pressing the Scan button .

Once the scan is complete, use the left sidebar to browse the recovered data. If you deem it necessary, you can tick the boxes relating only to the type of data of your interest to filter the search results. Then when you find the files you want to recover, select them and press the Recover button to save them on your computer.

If proceeding as I have just indicated you cannot find what you are interested in, you can try to scan the iTunes backups , going back to the main program screen and choosing the option to check the backups saved locally or the one to check i saved online backup .

How to recover deleted files from mobile phone from computer

You can recover deleted files from your mobile phone also by acting as a computer , connecting to it the device on which the files you want to recover were located (or the SD card possibly used on the smartphone, if it is not set as main memory) and using recovery software of deleted files. To find out more, read on.

PhotoRec (Windows / macOS / Linux)

If you have a smartphone with expandable memory and want to recover deleted files from the memory card it contains, you can take advantage of PhotoRec . It is a free and open source software that allows you to recover photos, videos, documents, compressed archives and other types of files from various types of drives. It is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux, but only on Microsoft operating systems it comes complete with a graphical interface (otherwise it must be used via the command line). It comes bundled with TestDisk , another free and open source software that allows you to recover lost partitions and make damaged disks bootable again, but that doesn’t matter, you’re only interested in PhotoRec for now.

To download the program on your PC, connect to its website and click on the link for the operating system you are using that you find in the section TestDisk & PhotoRec xx (month day, year), Data Recovery .

Once the download is complete, if you are using Windows , extract the ZIP archive obtained in a folder of your choice and start the qphotorec_win.exe file located inside it.

In the window that opens, click on the Yes button , then expand the drop-down menu at the top to select the drive where the memory card resides, click on the primary partition of the same (it should be the one called FAT32, FAT16 or exFAT ) and put the check mark next to the  FAT / NTFS / HFS + / ReiferFS  and  Free entries .

Then, press the Browse button and choose the folder in which you want to save the recovered files, then click on the File formats button , choose the type of data you want to recover, press the OK button and the Search button and wait for the program to perform his work.

If, on the other hand, you are using PhotoRec on macOS , instead, open the tar.bz2 archive downloaded on your computer, extract the contents in a folder of your choice and start the photorec file that is inside it, by right clicking on its icon and selecting the Open item from the menu that appears.

After that, the Terminal window will open . Then use the right arrow on the keyboard to select the Sudo option , press the Enter key and type the Mac administration password .

Now, select the drive related to the microSD card of your smartphone, indicate the partition on which you want to act, choose the file system with which it is formatted and decide whether to scan only the space marked as free or whether to check the whole unit .

Finally, indicate the folder where you want to save the recovered contents of the memory card, press the C key on your keyboard and wait for the data analysis and recovery process to start and complete.

Other solutions to recover deleted files from mobile phone from computer

  • Disk DrillWindows / macOS ) – is a software available for both Windows and macOS that offers the possibility to recover deleted data from the hard disk of the computer and from other devices connected to it, even smartphones. It’s free, but only restores 500MB of data. To get around this limitation, you have to purchase its Pro version (at a cost of 94.00 euros).
  • RecuvaWindows ) – is a program that works only on Windows that can be used to recover videos and other data removed from the external memory of mobile phones, as well as from the hard disk of the computer, pendrive and other media. It is free, but possibly a paid variant is available (costs € 19.95) that unlocks additional functions.
