Preliminary operations
Printing an image from any Google service is a really simple operation, but you need to have successfully set up a printer on your PC or have it connected wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet.
For this, if you need it, first of all I invite you to take a look at my guides on how to install a printer and how to configure it. As for the ability to print from your mobile phone (or tablet), there is also a guide in this case that could help you with the initial configuration of the printing device. To summarize the matter, it’s about installing the drivers on your PC or the printing apps on your smartphones and tablets and, in the case of wireless printers, connecting them to your Wi-Fi network using the support software or the display of the printer itself.
If, on the other hand, you do not have a printer, I recommend some inkjet printers and those optimized for photo printing in my dedicated buying guides.
In short, the options available are really many, and it is possible to secure a good printer even without having to spend a fortune. Take a look at the tutorials that I have reported to you and, if you have everything clear, I would say to start seeing how to print an image from Google.
How do you print an image from Google
Google Images is a Google service that allows you to find images of all kinds on the Internet using specific keywords (eg “home” to find photos of houses). It is the most used service of this type, but pay attention to the copyright coverage if you want to print the images not for strictly private and personal use (Google Images allows you to filter the results also based on the licenses).
From PC
Printing from Google Images without downloading the photos to the internal memory of your computer is a really simple and immediate operation.
If you use a Windows PC, open your favorite browser, such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox, go to Google Images and write the content for which you want to search for images in the search bar. Once this is done, press the Enter key on your keyboard, or click on the magnifying glass icon.
Then click on the image to print, to enlarge it, then right click on it and select the item Open the image in a new tab (or similar), to view the photo to be printed in its entirety.
Then go to the new tab opened, click on the Menu button of your browser (marked, often, by three dots or three lines in the upper right corner of the window) and select the Print item from the menu that is proposed to you. Alternatively, you can also use the shortcut Ctrl + P and call up the print menu.
From here, you have the opportunity to choose the printer to use, through the Printer drop-down menu. Decide how many copies to make using the appropriate button, then choose whether to print in Vertical or Horizontal and whether to proceed with a Color print. Finally, click the Print button and that’s it.
On Mac, the same instructions given above apply, with the difference that, once the print menu is called up (the key combination to press is cmd + p in this case), you must choose the printer to use from the Printers drop-down menu, then you have to decide how to set up the print page via the options you can find in the Show details menu. Finally, all you have to do is click on the Print button to confirm the operation.
From smartphones and tablets
Make a print from Google Images on smartphones and tablets is equally simple. You can do it both from a browser and from the Google app, available for Android and iOS / iPadOS devices. To install it, all you have to do is tap on the Install / Get item in the store and, if required, verify your identity.
At this point, if you want to print an image from the Google app, open it and, once you have identified the photo to print (just look for it in the appropriate field), make a long tap on it, then select the item Download image from menu that opens. Later, if you use Android, go to the Gallery app of your device and open the image you just downloaded, then tap the ⋮ button and choose the Print item from the opened menu.
If you use iPhone or iPad, instead, open the Photos app, then tap on the image you just downloaded, press the Share button (the arrow icon inside a box) and press the Print option. I remind you that if you do not have an AirPrint printer natively compatible with Apple devices, you can use apps such as those of EPSON and HP or third-party applications such as Printer Pro, which allows you to transform almost all printers into AirPrint printers. Read more here.
To print from the browser, connect to the images.google.it site and, if you use Chrome, make a long tap on the image to be printed, then choose the Preview image item, to open it in a new tab. In the opened tab, tap the ⋮ button, select the Share item, then press the Print button in the drop-down menu that appeared on the screen, to open the print preview screen.
The procedure for iPhone and iPad, using Safari, is just as simple. First, go to Google Images and type the keywords in the search bar to find the photo you want to print. Once the results are displayed, make a long tap on the image you want to print, then select the Share button from the small menu that appears on the screen. Once this is done, choose the Print item to use an AirPrint printer, or choose to share it in the app of your printer installed on the device.
How to print an image from Google Maps
It is possible to print an image from Google Maps using both the real map service, to print an itinerary, and the Street Views service, in order to print real photos of the places of interest. I’ll show you how it’s done right away.
From PC
To print an itinerary from Google Maps on your computer, connect to the official website of the service and use the internal search engine to create an itinerary or locate a photo of a place of interest to you.
In the case of itineraries, once you have identified the portion of the map to be printed, click on the Menu button of your browser and proceed with printing, as explained above.
Using the Street View function, on the other hand, you can directly print photos of the individual streets. To do this, click on one of the markers on the map, related to one of the places of interest in Maps, or directly type the street you are interested in in the search bar.
Then click on the screen that appears on the left, where you can see a small photo of the place of interest. In doing so, you will enter Street View mode, which allows you to scroll through images of the street. To print, proceed as usual.
From smartphones and tablets
On smartphones and tablets, Google Maps is available via app, downloadable on Android and iOS / iPadOS devices.
Printing a route through the app is very simple and consists of taking advantage of the screenshot function. All you have to do is highlight the route or the image of the map you intend to print and press the key combination set up to capture the screen.
If you use Android, then press the Power button (the one you use to turn on the phone) and the Volume Down button. If that doesn’t work, try pressing the Home key and Volume Down or Power instead. The combination can change, in fact, from device to device: for more details read my tutorial on how to take screenshots on Android.
On the iPhone and iPad, however, you can take screenshots using the Right Side Key + Volume Up combination, on models with Face ID, or the Power + Home combination, on models with a physical Home button. For all the details, read my guide on how to take screenshots on iPhone.
Once the screenshot is complete, open it in the Gallery / Photos app of your device and proceed with printing as explained above.
How to print an image from Google Earth
Google Earth is a program that allows you to navigate a complete map of the planet in 3D, through zoom functions that integrate the Street View function, also used by Google Maps. Offers several printing options.
From PC
Printing an image from Google Earth on PC is possible both through the Web version of the service and through its Pro client for PC (with some additional functions, but not influential for printing purposes).
Once inside Earth, regardless of the version used, you can browse the 3D map of the planet, or you can type coordinates or place names in the search bar on the left. I invite you to consult this guide to learn more about the functions.
To print what you see on the screen, all you have to do is follow the classic browser procedure seen above or, if you use the client, click on the File menu at the top left, then press the Print item, also reachable from the key combination Ctrl + P on Windows and cmd + p on Mac.
From smartphones and tablets
Google Earth is also available on smartphones and tablets, via downloadable applications for Android and iOS / iPadOS devices.
As already seen for Google Maps, it is possible to print a position or a place on Google Earth by using the screenshot creation function. Once the app is started, then navigate the planet displayed on the screen by pinching with your fingers inside the 3D map. Alternatively, type a location or coordinates into the search bar and quickly find the locations of your interest.
Once you have identified the screen to print, proceed with creating the screenshot and printing it, as explained in the chapter on Google Maps.
How to print an image from Google Photos
Google Photos is the famous Google cloud storage service dedicated to photos and videos, which allows you to catalog and store your content on the cloud for free up to 15 GB of space (shared with other Google Drive services). Photos are uploaded in original or compressed quality, depending on your choice, and you can easily print them.
From PC
On a PC, Google Photos can be accessed conveniently from a browser, by connecting to the web version of the service and completing access with your Google account.
Once inside the platform, you can consult the photos stored on the service, just like in a common Gallery. On both Windows and macOS computers, the procedure for printing an image is the same.
Then click on the photo you want to print, in order to view it in full screen and call up the print function from the browser menu, as explained above.
From smartphones and tablets
Google Photos is also available on smartphones and tablets through convenient applications for Android and iOS / iPadOS devices. To print an image through the latter on Android, tap on the photo to be printed, then press the ⋮ icon at the top right and call up the Print function from the menu that opens.
On iOS / iPadOS devices, however, after opening the photo to print, tap the Share button and choose the Share with item to open a pop-up menu.
In this menu, you can choose whether to use AirPrint printers via the Print button or select the item relating to the printing app you prefer, installed on your Apple smartphone or tablet. Easier than that ?!
