Preliminary information
Before going into the details of the procedure on how to create potions in Minecraft, I think it might interest you to know more about how everything is handled in the Mojang game.
Well, you should know that Minecraft brings to players dozens of potions, some of which may be obtained in the extended version, or that last for longer than the “standard” and are created by combining a standard potion to redstone dust.
In addition, there are also enhanced potions, which allow you to make the most of their effect. The latter are obtained by combining the standard potion with luminite powder.
A further distinction can then be made based on the method by which the potions are used, which can therefore be defined as normal (which are consumed from the quick inventory), castable (which can be used from a distance) and persistent (whose effect remains active in the place where they were activated for a few seconds).
In any case, the potions can be created through various different recipes. For normal potions makes use of elements such as Wart Nether, Eye of fermented spider, Magma Cream, Slice of watermelon shiny, sugar, Tear ghast, Spider Eye, blaze powder, Puffer Fish, Golden Carrot and Rabbit’s paw.
The Redstone dust and of Luminite powder, as mentioned previously, should be added to the elements referred to above to create, respectively, the potions extended and those enhanced.
But it’s not over yet: you need to know that the potions in Minecraft can be modified in two other ways. Using gunpowder it is in fact possible to make a normal potion castable while using the fermented spider eye it is possible to reverse its effect by transforming a positive potion into a negative one.
In any case, the equipment you need to create potions is always the same: an Alembic, some blaze powder and a water cruet (just have a cruet and fill it through any stream).
Since there are many items involved, I recommend that you rely on a convenient external tool to understand how to get them. Obviously, if you play in Creative mode, you already have all the items in your inventory available, but in Survival mode it is good to have some help.
What I advise you to do is, to be precise, contact MineSearch: a site that allows you to discover the combinations to make various objects in Minecraft. To use it, just connect to the official MineSearch website, click on the search bar at the top right, type the name of the element you need and select the most relevant result.
By doing so, the combination necessary to obtain that element will appear on the screen and you will certainly find it less difficult to find it. Convenient, right?
How to make potions in Minecraft
After showing you the potions available within Minecraft, I’d say it’s time to take action and learn how to craft them. Below you will find all the details of the case.
How to make all potions in Minecraft
To create all the potions present in Minecraft, the basic procedure is always the same, simply change the “ingredients” involved, making the right combination.
The first thing you need to do is, therefore, place an Alembic on the ground.
After that, take a ‘ Cruet in your hand, go near a stream and fill it, in order to get a’ Cruet of water.
At this point, interact with the Alembic and place a unit of Blaze Dust at the top left. In the lower center block, however, you have to place the water bottle (in case you are creating a primary potion) or the potion required by the “recipe”. Finally, in the top center, you have to put the ingredient (eg Nether wart).
By doing so, the alembic will start creating your potion and you can carry it in the quick inventory. The “secret” to making potions in Minecraft is all here. However, it is useful to know all the possible combinations, which I explain to you below.
- Ordinary Potion(no effect): Water Bottle + Spider’s Eye / Sugar / Ghast Tear / Glistening Watermelon Slice / Magma Cream / Blaze Powder / Rabbit’s Foot;
- Strange Potion(no effect): Water Bottle + Nether Wart;
- Potion of Weakness(reduces attack damage by 0.25 hearts): Potion of Weakness + Fermented Spider Eye;
- Thick Potion(no effect): Water Vial + Luminite Dust;
- Jump Potion(duration 3 minutes, you jump half a block higher): Strange Potion + Rabbit’s Foot;
- Potion of Speed(duration 3 minutes, movement and jump increased by 20%): Strange Potion + Sugar;
- Potion of Regeneration(duration 45 seconds, restores a heart every 2.4 seconds): Strange Potion + Tear of Ghast;
- Potion of Strength(duration 3 minutes, increases attacks by 130%): Strange Potion + Blaze Dust;
- Potion of Fire Resistance(duration 3 minutes, immunity to fire): Strange Potion + Magma Cream;
- Aquatic Breathing Potion(duration 3 minutes, infinite oxygen): Strange Potion + Puffer Fish;
- Night Vision Potion(duration 3 minutes, to see everything at its best): Strange Potion + Golden Carrot;
- Healing Potion(recover two hearts): Strange Potion + Shiny Watermelon Slice.
Perfect, these are all the major potions featured in Minecraft. For the rest, as I have already explained to you in the introductory chapter, it is possible to “modify” them in various ways: extending them (by combining the basic potion with Redstone Dust ), enhancing them (through Luminite Dust ), making them castable (through Dust from shot ) or turn them negative ( reversing the effect through the fermented spider eye ).
Just to give you a concrete example, by combining the potion cure-all ‘ Fermented Spider Eye, you’ll have to give potion that can cure yourself instead of inflicting damage. Obviously, Minecraft is a constantly evolving game and the various combinations may not always work, as there are many variables in the game, from the version of the title you have available to the changes made by the developers.
How to make persistent potions in Minecraft
A widespread doubt among Minecraft fans is that relating to the creation of persistent potions, which have an effect that remains active for a few seconds on the ground.
Well, in this case just follow the procedure I explained to you in the previous chapter. However, once the potion is created, you must combine it with the Dragon’s Breath. The latter is obtained by “enclosing” the attack of the Ender Dragon in a Vial.
I’ll give you a concrete example by creating a potion of persistent castable damage. To do this, you must first create a Weird Potion, placing a Nether Wart on top and a Water Bottle at the bottom.
After that, you have to place the Weird Potion at the bottom and a Shiny Watermelon Slice at the top, in order to extract a Healing Potion.
Then, put down your nursing position and top l ‘ Fermented Spider Eye, extracting the Potion of damage.
Then, to make it castable, place the Damage Potion at the bottom and put some Gunpowder at the top, extracting the result, which is the Damage Throwing Potion.
At this point, put the Damage Throwing Potion at the bottom and the Dragon’s Breath at the top, extracting the result, which is the Persistent Damage Potion.
Move the result to the quick inventory and you will see that when you throw it on the ground, the effect of the potion will remain for a few seconds.
Perfect, now you know everything there is to know about making potions in Minecraft.
