How to fly a plane in GTA 5 on PC

If you want to know how to fly a plane on GTA 5 on PC , you need to know that keyboard controls are obviously different from those with game controllers. In the next paragraphs, therefore, I will explain which are the keys to use on your computer via the keyboard.

When you get on an aircraft, whatever it is (a plane, a helicopter, etc.), the combination of keys you must use to fly it correctly is the one I will show you in the next lines.

  • W key: increase in power of the aircraft engine.
  • S key: aircraft engine power reduction.
  • A button: yaw left.
  • D button: yaw to the right.

If you are wondering how to drive a helicopter on GTA 5 , the W and S keys are the ones indicated to adjust its elevation from the ground. As for the controls for controlling the aircraft in the air, which allow you to adjust pitch and roll , you will need to use the keys on the numeric keypad .

  • Key 4: Roll the aircraft to the left.
  • Key 6: roll the aircraft to the right.
  • Key 8:aircraft pitch forward.
  • Key 5:aircraft pitch back.

The keys indicated above will allow you to fly an aircraft very well on GTA 5. In addition to these commands, however, other types of controls are available on the aircraft, which allow you to activate other functions.

For example, if you are using a war aircraft, such as a fighter or assault helicopter, by pressing the left mouse button or the space bar , you will be able to use the installed firearms. With weapons equipped with automatic aiming, however, you can change target locked using the keys 7 and 9 .

Finally, be aware that with some aircraft it is possible to open and close the landing gear. You can do this by pressing the G key . I remind you that, in case you have problems on the default configuration proposed above, you can in any case change it to your liking. All you have to do is open the pause menu and select the Settings> Key Pairing> Aircraft items .

Although the keyboard setup is the most obvious on PC, be aware that you can use a controller to use the same setup available on the game console version of GTA 5. To easily fly an aircraft, my advice is, therefore, to connect a controller to the PC , using the keys that I will tell you about in the next chapter .

How to fly a plane on GTA 5 on consoles

Do you play GTA 5 on consoles, like PlayStation 4 or Xbox One ? In this case, via the game controller you can easily fly any aircraft, compared to what you could do on a PC using a keyboard (which I told you about in the previous chapter ).

You can control the motor power and yaw through the triggers on the controller. Below you will find the buttons to press on both the PS4 / PS3 controller and the Xbox One / 360 controller .

  • LT / L2 key: aircraft engine power increase / helicopter climb.
  • RT / R2 key: aircraft engine power reduction / helicopter descent.
  • LB / L1 button: Yaw left.
  • RB / R1 button: yaw to the right.

Pitch and roll are easier to manage via the controller, thanks to the right direction stick.

  • Left stick: Roll the aircraft to the left.
  • Stick Right: Roll the aircraft to the right.
  • Stick Forward:Pitch the aircraft forward.
  • Stick Back:Pitch the aircraft back.

Finally, as regards the other controls that you can manage on an aircraft, we summarize below other features that may be useful to you.

  • Left lever pressure: Carriage opening / closing.
  • X / A button: aerial fire.
  • Square / X button: next weapon.

Improve flight skill to fly a plane on GTA 5

In GTA 5 you can take flying lessons with the characters Franklin and Michael to increase their ability to fly airplanes. With Trevor you won’t have any need to take these lessons, as this character already has a high skill.

The possibility of taking flying lessons is suggested by Trevor himself to Michael during a phone call, to improve his flying skills before hitting the Merryweather shot . The location of this school is near Los Santos International Airport , in the southern area of the city ( an airplane icon on the map).

Having the highest flying skill is a not insignificant requirement to be able to fly the aircraft very well on GTA 5. In fact, you will be able to better manage the aircraft in the air if there is turbulence, in addition to the fact that you will have more control in take-off. and in landing.

The flight school allows you to carry out practical lessons that range on different areas of the flight and control phases of the aircraft in the air, such as take-off and landing, inverted flight and low-level flight, just to name a few.

Furthermore, passing the flight lesson tests with a bronze, silver or gold score is an essential requirement in order to be able to complete the game with a percentage equal to 100%.

If you don’t want to increase your flying skills through lessons, you can always decide to fly planes and helicopters, gradually increasing your skill.
