Imagine being lost in the ocean, on a wooden raft and surrounded by hungry sharks. A rope and a harpoon are your only hopes to try to collect the materials lost at sea, with which you could build useful accessories for your survival. Don’t worry, I’m not going to kidnap you and leave you in the middle of the sea: I was just describing to you Raft , a video game in which you play the role of a castaway forced to collect all kinds of debris to build your own houseboat with the aim of surviving. As long as possible.

If I have intrigued you and you would like to test your survival instinct, let me explain how to download Raft by purchasing it on Steam , the platform developed by Valve that allows you to buy and download numerous computer games, often at advantageous prices. Furthermore, I will show you the procedure to download a “prototype” version of Raft for free and, albeit from different developers, how to get the version for smartphones and tablets.

How to download Raft on computer

On a computer, the full version of Raft is only available for Windows PCs and, as previously mentioned, can be downloaded via  Steam . Additionally, you can download Raft to computer in a free version which is also available for Mac and Linux. How to do? I’ll explain it to you right away.

Minimum and recommended requirements

Before going into the details of the download and installation procedure and, above all, before buying Raft, you need to know what are the minimum requirements necessary to run the game and compare them with the specifications of your computer.

At the time of writing this guide, the full version of Raft is available exclusively for Windows PCs with the following minimum requirements.

• Operating system: Windows 7;
• Processor: 2.6 GHz Dual Core or similar;
• Memory: 4 GB;
• Video card: GeForce GTX 500 series or similar;
• DirectX: Version 11;
• Free disk space: 3 GB.

For the best gaming experience, you must have a computer with the following  recommended requirements .

• Operating system: Windows 7
• Processor: Intel Core i5 2.6GHz or similar
• Memory: 8 GB;
• Video card: GeForce GTX 700 series or similar;
• DirectX: Version 11;
• Free disk space: 3 GB.

In addition, a broadband Internet connection is required to play Raft in multiplayer mode, but no further information on Mbps is specified in the game specifications.

Download and install Steam

As widely anticipated, to download Raft you need to turn to Steam , Valve’s platform for downloading and purchasing games in digital format. To download and install Steam on your computer (if you have not already done so), connected to the official website of the service , click on the Install Steam button  and, in the new open page, press the Install Steam now button to start the software download.

Once the download is complete, double-click the SteamSetup.exe file  , press the Next button  , then place the check mark next to  I accept the license agreement  and click the Next button again . In the new screen that appears, select the  Italian language , click the Next  and  Install buttons , then wait for the installation to complete and click the Finish button  to start downloading the update files necessary for Steam to work.

Now, proceed with the creation of your account by pressing the  Create a new account button . Then enter your details in the Steam Name , Password  and Email Address fields  , type the characters displayed on the screen in the Enter the characters field  , place the check mark required to accept the terms of service and declare that you are at least 14 years old and click the Next button . Within a few moments you will receive an email containing an activation link: click on  Create my account  to activate your account and complete the registration procedure.

Download and install Raft with Steam

To download and install Raft via Steam , start the client of the platform developed by Valve in online mode and, if you have not already done so, log in to your account by entering your details in the Account Name  and  Password fields  and pressing the Sign in button .

Now, click on the Shop item in the top menu, write Raft in the Search field in the shop located at the top right and press the magnifying glass icon to start the search. In the search results, locate Raft (it should be the first result) and click on it to access its description card.

To purchase the game, press the green Add to Cart button and, on the next screen, click the Purchase button for me . In the Payment details section , set the payment method you prefer using the drop-down menu under the item  Choose a payment method and select one of the available options between  PayPal ,  credit card  ( Visa ,  Mastercard ,  American Express ,  JBC ),  Skrill  and  Paysafecard , then enter the data and press the Continue button to complete the purchase.

Then click on the Library item at the top, select Raft from the list of games in the sidebar on the left and click on the Install button , then place the check mark next to the items  Create a shortcut on the desktop  and  Create a shortcut in the menu Start  if you want to create quick links to the game and press the Next  and  Accept buttons   to start the download.

You can view the download speed and the downloaded data by clicking on the In download item at the bottom. You must know that, in case of need, you can stop the download by pressing the Pause button and resume it later by clicking on the Resume button . Once the download is complete, press the Library item , select Raft in the left sidebar and click the Play button to start the game.

Download and install Raft without Steam

As mentioned above, Raft is an open source game that has been officially released on Steam in its final paid version. However, it is possible to download and install Raft without Steam in a free version with fewer features and without the ability to play online with other users.

To download this version of Raft (available for Windows PC, macOS and Linux), connect to the game’s developer site and scroll down the page, until you find the Download section . Now, click on the Download button for the operating system installed on your computer and wait for the download.

To play Raft on Windows PC , double-click on the file [version] _Raft_Win.zip and open the folder [version] _Raft_Win , then double-click on the file  [version] _Raft_Win.exe , press the Run button and click on the Play button .

If, on the other hand, you have a Mac , double-click on the zip file you  just downloaded to extract its contents and open the folder  [version] _Raft_MacUniversal . To start the game for the first time and avoid macOS restrictions for applications from non-certified developers, you need to right-click on its icon and select the Open item   from the menu that appears, then press the Open and Play buttons to start to play.

How to download Raft on smartphones and tablets

If you prefer to play on smartphones and tablets, you should know that Raft is also available as an application, albeit not developed by the developers of the computer version. The application, available for Android devices (version 4.0.3 and later) and iOS  (version 7 and later), is free and the game dynamics it offers are the same as the desktop version of the game.

To download Raft on Android smartphones and tablets  , start the Play Store by pressing on its icon (the colored ▶ symbol ) on the home screen of your device, then tap on the magnifying glass icon at the top right, write Raft in the search engine above and locate the application in the search results. Then press the Raft  icon and tap the Install and Accept buttons to start the download and installation of the game.

If, on the other hand, you have an iPhone or an iPad , you can download Raft through the App Store , the official Apple store. Then start the App Store by pressing on its icon (the  white “A” on a light blue background ), tap the Search item in the bottom menu and type Raft in the App Store field under the Search option at the top.

Now, locate Raft in the search results and tap on its icon (a shark and a raft ) to access the descriptive card and view its details, reviews and related applications. To download the application, press the Get and Accept button and that’s it. You may be asked to verify your identity using Touch ID, Face ID, or entering your Apple ID password.
