You often use Google Drive as a cloud storage service and would also like to use it to share a folder with your work team, in order to make the most of the 15 GB of storage you have at your disposal. No problem.

To create a shared folder on Drive you can act directly from the service’s web page accessible from any web browser on a computer or from its mobile app for Android and iOS / iPadOS .

To proceed from the browser, open the Google Drive web page , click on the item My Drive and from the menu that appears – if you want to create a new folder -, select the item New folder . Now decide the name to assign to the folder (you can also change it in the future) and click the Create button to confirm the operation. Now click on the folder to share , to open it, and press on the folder name displayed at the top. From the menu that appears on the screen, click on the Share item and decide how to share the folder in question.

If, on the other hand, you are using the Google Drive client for Windows or macOS , these operations are not possible, but you will first have to act from the web browser to share the folder of your interest. Subsequently, you can also access the folder via a PC client and insert or modify all the files inside it.

If, on the other hand, you use the Google Drive mobile app , all you have to do is open it and press the + button at the bottom right, if you want to create a new folder. Subsequently, press on the three dots placed next to the name of the folder to be shared and from the menu that appears choose the item Share . Well: now you just have to manually add people or groups who will have access to the folder or copy the access link to send to those who will have access to the folder.

How to create shared folder on Teams

You use Microsoft Teams with your work team and for this reason you would like to try to carry out all the operations within this service, without the need to use external cloud storage services.

No problem: on Microsoft Teams you can create a real shared folder within a team’s channel. The files inside it can be viewed and edited by all members of the work team (the function is only available for professional and institutional accounts, for example belonging to a school; the service, on the other hand, is also accessible to common private users).

You should know that you can use Microsoft Teams to share files both through the website , through the client for Windows and macOS , and through the mobile app for Android and iOS / iPadOS . The functioning of the service is almost identical on all platforms.

To proceed from the web, the first thing to do is to open the Teams web page and log in with your email and password. Then, from the main screen, click first on the Teams item from the side menu and then on the Join or create team item and Create a new team . In the type of team that will be created, choose the Personal item and then enter a name for the team and a description, the latter optional: to complete the operation, click on the Next button .

Once you have created a team you will notice that by entering it there is a channel (later you can also create new ones) in which you can upload files, to share with the other members of the work team. To access all the files in the chat, just click on the File item at the top and from here you will access a list with all the files present, arranged in chronological order from the most recent to the oldest. The files in this section can be viewed and edited by all team members, directly online, without the need to use additional applications.

The functioning of Teams is almost identical whether you use it via a website or via a client for Windows and Mac , so the instructions to follow are practically the same.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to use the app for smartphones and tablets , all you have to do is open it and log in with your account. Subsequently, from the home page, tap on the Teams item in the bar at the bottom and in the screen dedicated to Teams, press the button with the three dots at the top: from the menu that appears, tap on Create new team and enter all the required data as I explained to you earlier.

The functioning of the channels and the creation of the shared folder is almost identical to the web version of Teams or the client for PC that I showed you previously.
