Choosing a laptop is a difficult task, because, unlike a smartphone, it is not bought for a couple of years. It is necessary to treat it responsibly in order to choose the right companion in work, study and entertainment for years to come. We tested the Honor MagicBook 15. In theory, the device has all the qualities to become the best laptop in the category up to 90 thousand rubles. Let’s see if he’s really that good.

Design and equipment

The Honor MagicBook 15 comes standard, just like the rest of its class. In addition to the laptop itself, we found the usual set in the box: documentation, a fast charging adapter and a fairly long USB Type-C cable.

The spectacular appearance went to the updated Honor MagicBook 15 from its predecessor. The design of the 2020 version turned out to be so successful that the company decided not to change it in this year’s model. And she made the right decision: the “tag” still looks cool. The laptop case is made of space gray metal. The design is very rigid – there is no doubt about its durability.

The thickness of the case is only 16.9 mm, and the device weighs some 1.56 kg – just like models with a diagonal of 13-14 inches. A kind of fit in the world of laptops. On the side faces of the Honor MagicBook 15 there are USB Type-C ports, two USB-A, HDMI and an input for connecting analog headphones. On the top cover around the perimeter there is a bevel, which is painted in blue, – laser polishing has already become a proprietary chip of this line. The laptop looks unusual and looks advantageous against the background of competitors, which most often all look the same.

We open the laptop, and the first thing that catches your eye is the almost bezel-less display. It occupies 87% of the top cover area, which is not common. Thanks to this, the laptop turned out to be much more compact than its competitors, and with a display diagonal of 15.6 inches, it can easily be confused with 14-inch models. Compactness is great for portability: the laptop fits easily into most standard sized backpacks.

The keyboard of Honor MagicBook 15 is island, with a smooth stroke, the keys are pressed almost silently. It is comfortable to work on it, after a full working day, the hands do not get tired. The power button is located in the upper right corner, and it integrates a fingerprint scanner that supports Windows Hello technology – unlocking a laptop is as easy as a smartphone. And the large touchpad supports all Windows 10 gestures.

Display

The Honor MagicBook 15 has an IPS display with a standard Full HD resolution: the picture on it does not fade, even if you look at the screen from a wide angle. The maximum screen brightness is 300 nits, which is enough to work even on a sunny day.

The laptop display covers 100% of the sRGB color space – in other words, it reproduces all colors correctly, so it is suitable for those who are engaged in processing and color correction of photos or editing video. In addition, the screen boasts TÜV Rheinland certification: it has a low flicker rate, and the blue spectrum radiation, which negatively affects vision, is reduced by 50%.

Performance

The Honor MagicBook 15 has 16GB of DRR4 RAM installed in dual channel mode and 512GB of permanent memory on a fast SSD.

The main feature of the laptop is the latest Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor with a clock frequency of 2.4 GHz. This chip is made according to the 10nm process technology, which Intel recently switched to. This process technology allows you to increase both the number of transistors on the board and the energy efficiency of the processor. In addition, the Intel Core i5-1135G7 integrates the latest Intel Iris Xe graphics card, which is much more powerful than its predecessors. Its performance is very close to Nvidia’s entry-level discrete solutions.

Thanks to such a filling, the Honor MagicBook 15 works with lightning speed. It turns on in a matter of seconds, and programs and applications from a cold start are launched as if they were minimized to the background. The amount of RAM increased to 16 GB allows you to keep dozens of tabs open in Google Chrome without unloading.

In benchmarks, the laptop also shows decent results. In Geekbench, it scored 1228 points in the single-core test and 3926 points in the multi-core test. It is important to understand that this laptop is primarily intended for work and multimedia entertainment, it is not a gaming solution for running the latest Assassin’s Creed. However, you can also play on the Honor MagicBook 15, mainly in the games of past years and modern e-sports disciplines. For example, in League of Legends, the Honor MagicBook 15 delivers 50-60 frames per second at native resolution and medium-high graphics settings – a decent result.

The laptop has an excellent cooling system. The Honor MagicBook 15 stays cool during office use thanks to the larger fan and dual heat sinks. Under load, of course, it gets noticeably warmer, but does not heat up to critical values.

Autonomy

The Honor MagicBook 15 has a 42 Wh battery. You can watch movies on Netflix for seven hours at medium brightness. During operation, the autonomy is reduced to five or six hours, which is also a good indicator for a Windows laptop.

At the same time, the device received a 65 W fast charge in the kit, which charges the battery by 53% in just half an hour, and the charge is fully replenished in just over an hour.

Honor ecosystem

Honor MagicBook 15, like any other product of the company, supports Honor Magic-Link 2.0 technology, which unites all devices of the brand into a single ecosystem.

On the laptop case there is a sticker with the Honor Magic-Link logo, to which you can hold any Honor smartphone (which has an NFC chip) and create a pair between the smartphone and the laptop. After that, directly on the laptop, you can open up to three applications from your smartphone and work with them using the keyboard and mouse (or touchpad). It also allows you to instantly transfer files between devices without having to wire them up. Probably the best sync solution between Windows and Android.
