GNOME 42 Released: what’s new?
The developers of the popular desktop environment for Linux have announced another major release. GNOME has been updated to version 42 and has brought a lot of useful changes.
First of all, you should pay attention to visual changes, as well as changes in some standard applications. For example, the text editor has been updated with a more modern interface, and a new version of the Nautilus file manager has been released – now it has a convenient panel for finding files.
The screenshot app has been updated with more options for selecting areas to “take” (you can also record the screen), and the interface itself looks fresher.
There are also significant changes regarding the technical component. Support for Flatpak packages has improved, and a lot of work has been done to develop support for Vulkan technology (it allows you to more efficiently use video cards in resource-intensive applications).
GNOME 42 will appear in popular distributions in upcoming updates. But some will not be in a hurry, for example, Fedora 36 and Ubuntu LTS 22.04 will be updated with the release of GNOME 42.1.
