Fixing OneDrive sync issue

OneDrive is a cloud-based solution used by Windows that allows you to securely store your personal files. It also provides remote access from anywhere in the world and at any time, plus, in any browser. It works like Google Drive Dropbox, but with different capacities and storage options. With this cloud-based solution, you will work with your files directly from File Explorer and access them even when offline, but the changes you make will be automatically updated every time you turn them on. Some issues include sync conflicts, item threshold, missing metadata sync, or individual folders failing to work, and folder file deletion. This explains the reasons why OneDrive isn’t working and SharePoint isn’t updating, so we’ll share some solutions to this error.

General Troubleshooting Tips

If you want to make the most of the program’s features and make your work smoothly, you must:

  • Upgrade to the latest version.
  • Optimization of only the necessary documents. On demand, the program allows you to access all documents.
  • Make sure that you are not downloading too many files at the same time: Van Drive is frozen and displays the “Processing” status as “0 KB xMB”, which means there are many documents on the disk waiting to be downloaded, which increases the waiting time. Add files to the desktop application instead of using the Download button on the website.
  • Check documents – “offline” on all mobile devices, they can be read at any time.
  • Stay within the storage limit. Sometimes you have to buy more memory or choose folders to sync with your computer.
  • Stop and restart syncing.
  • Names must not contain unsupported characters.
  • Make sure document sizes, item counts, and path lengths are within the recommended limits.

Setting up a new client

  • Go to the SharePoint admin center.
  • Open Settings and click Launch New Client.

Click OK and wait for the change to propagate to your environment (takes several hours).

  • Delete the old one from your desktop as it is no longer needed. (Control Panel> Programs> Uninstall).

Use a new client to work with the application.

Get library and site level permissions

If you are using a legacy client, you need the appropriate library and site level permissions. Here’s how to check if you have edit permissions:

  • Go to SharePoint Online> LIBRARY> Settings> Management.
  • Tap on “Check Permissions”> enter your account in the “Check Now” field. Account does not have permissions? Click Stop Inheritance Rights.
  • Click “Grant Permissions” -> assign “Edit” permission.

Not a SharePoint administrator? Contact your administrator, the global administrator, he will add your account to the Admin group of the site collection. After that, clear the program cache using the tool
