App to open ZIP files on Android
To begin with, let’s see which are the best apps to open ZIP files on Android . Here they are. I am sure that in no time you will find a solution to your liking.
Google files
If what you are using is an Android device, the first app to open ZIP files that I invite you to test is Google’s Files . If you have never heard of it, I inform you that it is a file manager made available by “big G”, which has a pleasant user interface and is very easy to use. I chose to report it to you in this tutorial as it also integrates a function that allows you to extract the archives in ZIP format:
To download and install the app on your device, visit the relevant section of the Play Store and press the Install button . Subsequently, start the app, selecting the relative icon that has been added to the home screen and / or drawer.
Now that you see the main application screen, select the location on your device or on the micro SD card in it where the ZIP file you want to decompress is located, touch the compressed archive icon and, in the box that opens, tap the Extract button .
Once the extraction procedure is complete, press the Finish button and you will finally be able to access the files contained in the archive from the same location in which the latter is located. You can also arrange for the archive to be removed when the extraction is complete by checking the Delete ZIP file option in advance .
Also note that if the ZIP file you want to extract is password protected , you will be asked to enter it before proceeding.
Other apps to open ZIP files on Android
Would you like to understand what other apps to open ZIP files on your Android device you can possibly use? Then take a look at the ones I’ve put in the following list.
- ZArchiver– is one of the best apps to open free ZIP files available on Android. It allows you to extract archives in 7Z, ZIP, RAR, RAR5 formats and many others, as well as directly view their contents and create new compressed files in 7z, ZIP, BZIP2 (BZ2), GZIP (GZ), XZ and TAR format , even with password. It does not include advertising banners and its interface is extremely intuitive. The only flaw, if we want to define it, is that it does not support cloud storage services.
- X-plore File Manager– is one of the best free file managers available for Android. Aesthetically it is not very “attractive”, but on the other hand it is very light. It allows you to easily navigate between device folders, network folders and those hosted on cloud storage services through a split panel with tree file view. It also supports extracting ZIP files with passwords. Note that it offers in-app purchases (with prices starting from 1 euro) to unlock additional functions.
- WinZip– I don’t think it needs too many introductions: it is one of the most popular utilities for managing ZIP files on a computer. Its Android version allows you to extract archives in ZIP, ZIPX, 7Z, RAR and CBZ format, create archives in ZIP and ZIPX format and extract encrypted ZIP files with standard, AES-128 and AES 256-bit encryption. It’s free, but it offers extra features that can only be unlocked through in-app purchases (with prices starting from 80 cents.). Read more here .

File
File is the default file manager available on iPhone and iPad. It’s free and the app is pre-installed on iOS / iPadOS (if removed, it can still be downloaded again from the relevant section of the App Store ). In addition to flawlessly fulfilling its default function, it also allows you to open files in ZIP format, which is why I recommend its use.
To use File, start the app by selecting the relative icon (the one with the white background and the blue folder ) that you find on the home screen and / or in the App Library, then go to the location where the ZIP file that is your intention is located unzip, using the Recent section or the Browse section .
After locating the ZIP file , click on its icon and wait for the extraction procedure to complete. The extracted files will then be saved in the same location as the original archive.
As an alternative to as I just indicated, you can extract the ZIP files by making a firm and long press on the relative icon and tapping on the Extract item attached to the menu you see appear.
Keep in mind that if the ZIP file you intend to open is protected with a password , to finalize the operation you will be asked to type it.

It allows, in fact, to compress and decompress files in the format in question in a simple and fast way.
To be able to use it, right click on the ZIP file icon you want to act on and select the Extract all item from the context menu that is shown to you.
In the window that at this point you see appear on the desktop, click on the Browse button and specify the location where you want to save the files contained in the archive once the extraction process is complete, then decide whether to show the extracted files automatically or not by ticking or leaving the appropriate box unchecked. 7-Zip
Among the best third-party programs that allow you to open ZIP files on Windows, I suggest 7-Zip . It is practically the best free and open source utility for managing compressed archives on Microsoft operating systems. It is compatible not only with Windows 10 and later, but with all previous versions of the OS as well, which is why it can also be labeled as one of the best apps to open Windows 7 ZIP files . Its interface is not very accurate, but it supports all the main compressed file formats: ZIP, 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR etc. in reading and writing and is very fast in data processing.

To use it, right-click on the icon of the ZIP file you want to open and choose the Open item from the context menu. In this way, the contents of the archive will be extracted to the current location.
If the ZIP archive you intend to extract is password protected , you will be prompted to enter it to complete the procedure.
As an alternative to how I just explained to you, you can extract the ZIP archive of your interest also simply by double clicking on it.

Another macOS application that you would do well to consider for opening ZIP files is Keka . It is free and open source in nature and allows you to extract archives in RAR , 7Z, LZMA, XZ, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, ISO, EXE, CAB and PAX format (including encrypted and multi-volume archives) and to create files in 7Z, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, DMG and ISO format. When the download is complete, open the .dmg package obtained and drag the Keka icon into the macOS Applications folder , then right-click on it and select the Open item twice in a row, so as to open the application, however, going around the limitations imposed by Apple on non-certified developers (an operation that must be performed only at the first start).
Once the main Keka window is displayed on the screen, drag the ZIP file you want to extract on it, release it when you see the word Release here to extract and wait for the extraction process to be completed. The contents of the compressed archive will then be saved in the same location as the source file.

- iZip Archiver– is a free compressed archive manager for macOS which, unlike other solutions in the category, does not directly extract the contents of ZIP files, but allows you to view it first and then to extract only the desired elements. - The Unarchiver– a specific application for Mac, totally free and very easy to use, which allows you to extract ZIP, RAR, 7-Zip etc. files, even if they are password protected.
