Hidden gems unveiled, 15 interesting games from E3 2021 that you might have missed

E3 2021 Was a showcase of gaming brilliance that features blockbuster announcements and highly anticipated titles. Among the spotlight stealing reveals there were different games that managed to slip under the radar . But they deserved attention for their creativity innovation and potential to redefine gaming experience. Following are 15 interesting game from E3 2021 that you might have missed:

Rescue a family from aliens, a thriller in a time loop, a rat warrior against frogs and a diver swapping bodies with fish.

At E3 2021, there were many announcements from major studios and publishers: Starfield, STALKER 2, Battlefield 2042, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Extraction and others. Against their background, smaller projects could easily get lost. The most intriguing of them – in this material.

Somerville

The fans of Limbo and Inside could have noticed this game, but the development is not carried out by Playdead, but by another studio. However, such a striking stylistic similarity still has an explanation: Jumpship was founded by Dino Patti, one of the founders of Limbo.

Somerville takes place during an alien invasion. The player will get the role of the father of the family, who is trying to save the whole family – his wife, child and dog. This is a rather unusual solution: more often in games, at best, you need to look after another, completely independent character, but in the video, all the heroes regularly travel together. Another difference from Inside will be the scale: as the developers note, the game will have enough demonstrations of a major conflict.

Somerville will be released in 2022 and will immediately appear in Game Pass – on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series.

REPLACED

Four years ago, at the Xbox conference, Odd Tales unveiled The Last Night, an adventure with highly detailed pixel art that instantly grabbed attention. However, the studio faced difficulties, and since then news about the game has been very rare, although the project, according to the developers, continues to live.

In 2021, REPLACED was shown at the Microsoft presentation – according to the first frames, it was easy to make a mistake and say that this is the return of The Last Night. But the Belarusian studio Sad Cat Studios is responsible for the novelty, and this is its debut project.

REPLACED is a sci-fi retro platformer in which players take on the role of REACH, an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body. The developers promise a fascinating dystopian story in the alternative 1980s, a dynamic combat system and a pretty picture – and judging by the trailer, everything is really in order with the art design.

REPLACED will be released in 2022 on Xbox One, Xbox Series, Steam and Epic Games Store.

Twelve minutes

Luis Antonio has been working on the thriller “12 Minutes” for several years. In the center of the plot is a married couple who are stuck in a time loop. A romantic dinner constantly turns into a nightmare: a policeman breaks into the apartment, accuses the hero’s wife of murder and beats her husband to death.

Twelve Minutes has a stellar cast. The characters are voiced by James McAvoy (the last installments of X-Men, Dirt), Daisy Ridley (Ray from the new Star Wars trilogy) and Willem “himself a scientist of some kind” Dafoe (Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man, ” The Boondock Saints “,” The Grand Budapest Hotel “). The game’s author promises a blend of Stephen King’s The Shining, the claustrophobic feel of The Courtyard Window, and an intricate, Remember Nolan-style structure.

At Microsoft’s presentation, the game was given only 38 seconds, but now we finally know the release date. Twelve Minutes will be released on August 19, 2021 on Steam on Xbox One and Xbox Series, and will be immediately available on Game Pass on release day.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

In the spring of 2019, Asobo studio released A Plague Tale: Innocence – a beautiful tale of love and friendship set in the dark setting of medieval France. The authors managed to avoid most of the problems of the genre and bring something new to it, and packs of voracious rats inspired fear until the very end.

As it turns out, Asobo is working on a sequel. The trailer again showed rodents, and if you believe the video, the scale of the sequel will be completely different – the rats in the trailer devoured the whole city. The main characters will again be Amicia and her brother Hugo, who will have to face a new test and do everything possible to survive in this cruel world.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will be released in 2022 on PC and Xbox Series. On release day, the game will be immediately available in Game Pass.

Happy game

Authors Chuchel, Samorost and Machinarium are working on Happy Game, in which only monsters seem to be happy. In a one-minute trailer, the protagonist explores an eerie round world inhabited by scary monsters. The inhabitants of the planet are dismembered, their heads blown up, and the hero is constantly running away from some nasty creatures.

The authors promise a very cruel game without censorship, but I want to believe that things will not be limited to shocking scenes. The release is expected in the fall of 2021 on PC, Mac and Nintendo Switch.

Tails of iron

Odd Bug is working on an RPG game about a rat prince who sets out on a campaign to save his kingdom and banish the warlike frog clan. The developers promise a “deceptively cozy fairy world”, colorful characters, and a fascinating story, which will be commented on behind the scenes by the husky Doug Cockle – the English voice actor of Geralt in “The Witchers”.

The combat system of Tails of Iron is inspired by the Dark Souls series, and the fight against each type of enemy promises to be unique. The player has several types of weapons, abilities, finishing moves, potions, and in some missions the hero will be accompanied by partners.

Tails of Iron may look rustic, but its design still has a certain charm, and the gameplay promises to be good. Release on PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch in 2021.

Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View

The creators of The Occupation and Ether One are working on a detective thriller set in 1950s England. The main character is a retired detective confined to a wheelchair, who, after reporting the disappearance of an eight-year-old girl, begins his own investigation. He has to solve the case, watching the neighbors from the window of his apartment.

The concept of Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View sounds interesting at the very least, but the studio’s past games weren’t hits – there were enough controversial moments. Looking forward to a release this fall in 2021 on Steam.

Immortality

Sam Barlow, the author of Her Story and Telling Lies, has unveiled his next game. Details are still scarce: users are waiting for the story of the fictional missing actress Marissa Marcel. The girl played in three films, but none of them came out. Why is a mystery that the players have to reveal.

Released in 2022.

Lakeburg legacies

Ishtar Games showed an unusual simulator of life in the Middle Ages, the main goal of which is to make your settlement actively proliferate. The player will have to keep track of the inhabitants, bring couples together, marry them and force them to breed, trying to select heroes with suitable characteristics in order to get the perfect offspring.

And so that the user is not bored, the idyll will be disturbed by random love events and temptations. They threaten with divorce, betrayal and other troubles that can destroy the family legacy.

Lakeburg Legacies will be released in 2022.

Citizen Sleeper

Studio Jump Over The Age is working on a cyberpunk story about an inhabitant of a space station. The main character is a digitized human consciousness in an artificial body, which is working for a greedy corporation. The player will have to make friends, hack terminals, reveal the secrets of the base and open its new compartments in order to escape the villains.

The key feature of Citizen Sleeper is the dice system. All events in the game depend on the roll of the dice, which the player chooses depending on the risks and complexity of the actions. Released in 2022.

Planet of lana

Wishfully and publisher Thunderful have unveiled a puzzle adventure game in which a young girl and her pet undertake a “rescue mission”. Apparently, another alien attack is at the center of the plot.

The developers promise a colorful hand-drawn world full of cold cars and unfamiliar creatures. Release on Xbox and PC in 2022.

Silt

The Spiral Circus adventure tells the story of a diver who explores the surreal void of the ocean. The hero will find himself in a dangerous and eerie underwater world, in which nature has acquired bizarre forms.

The main gameplay feature is the ability to transfer your consciousness into sea creatures. Their abilities will help solve puzzles and adapt to the environment: escape from monsters, activate mechanisms, and so on.

Silt is promised to be released on PC in 2022.

Trek to yomi

The black-and-white samurai action is very similar to the 2D Ghost of Tsushima – in the early days of E3, YouTube’s algorithms even thought the trailer was showing Sony action. In the center of the plot is a warrior who made a promise to the late master to protect the village from any evil. Unfortunately, bandits attack the settlement, and the samurai will have to deal with them.

Judging by the video, the battles are arranged so that the enemies can be dealt with with a couple of blows, but the hero himself is just as vulnerable. It is also known that the team has the authors of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, and all dialogues are voiced by Japanese actors. Moreover, for authenticity, the creators even hired an expert who adapted the phrases to the speech of the 18th century.

Trek to Yomi will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S and PC in 2022.

The wandering village

Stray Fawn Studio showed an unusual strategy in which the player has to manage a settlement on the back of a huge traveling creature. You will have to take care not only of the inhabitants of the village, but also of the giant itself – for example, to protect it from harmful spores that periodically fall from the sky.

The Wandering Village is made by a very small team, so the game has no release date yet. But you can follow her on Steam.

Pioner

Russian studio GFA Games is working on a post-apocalyptic MMO shooter with first-person survival elements. The game will unfold on a Soviet island isolated from the mainland. The earth is inhabited by supernatural creatures, and some can only be killed with the help of special artifacts. In general, with rough simplifications, the game can be called the network STALKER

Early alpha testing of the game will be available this year. But the approximate release date was not disclosed.

There were many different games at E3 2021 – all of them simply would not fit into one material. But judging by the exhibition, the pandemic has hit even indie developers: we have already seen some of the projects 2-3 years ago, and they began to acquire approximate release dates only now.
