How to grow grapes in Farming Simulator 22
How to grow grapes in Farming Simulator 22: Grapes in Farming Simulator 22 is one of the new crops that was added by the developers in the new part of the simulator. Do you want to grow grapes, but nothing works? In this guide, you will learn how to sow and harvest grapes in Farming Simulator 22.
What does it take to grow grapes?
The vines in Farming Simulator 22 require proper spacing to save space as well as getting exactly the right amount of sun, water and air. That’s why you need specialized equipment. You will be working in narrow spaces between vines. Let’s take a look at everything you need to plant and harvest grapes.
- You need open space to build vines. Not necessarily a flat field used for other crops, but maybe a beautiful meadow on a hill.
- You will need a tractor to attach and operate the following tools.
- You will need a cultivator to loosen the soil between the vines.
- You will need a mulcher to cut the grass growing between the vines.
- You will need a special fertilizer spreader and a liquid fertilizer pan. Without fertilizer, your crop income will drop significantly.
- To harvest grapes, you will need a special grape harvester.
- You will need a leaf cutter to prepare the vine after harvest for re-growing grapes.
- And for the transportation and sale of harvested grapes, a trailer is needed.
What technique to choose for growing grapes
We have selected the following equipment. In the “Packages” section of the store you will find everything you need. As mentioned earlier, your regular tractor and sprayer won’t fit between the vines, and you’ll need compact equipment.
- Tractor: Landini REX 4 GT
- Cultivator: AGRISEM DISC-0-Vigne V
- Mulcher: TMC Cancela TPN 140
- Combine: Braud 9070L
- Fertilizer: Hardi Mercury 4000L
- Trailer: Fuhrmann MRWK 6000
- Leaf cutter : Provitis MP 122 OCEA
How to sow and harvest grapes in Farming Simulator 22
Is there everything you need? Then let’s get down to your task and place the vines. Open build mode and click on the “gardens” section in the “Production” tab.
There you will find grapes and olives. Please note that you can only plant vines between the beginning of March and the end of May if seasonal growth is enabled.
Step 1: Placement of the vines
Place the vines by clicking on an empty spot on your land to place a pillar. Then you simply drag the vine across the field and place another post. We now have one line, but there are more to come.
Because the vines need to be as close together as possible, zoom in and move your cursor away from the first row until you see the silhouette lift up again. This is the ideal distance between two rows of vines. Lay down the next post, run the vine across the field, and put up the last post again. Repeat this procedure until you get enough vines.
Step 2: Mulching the ground
Since we want to keep the space between the vines clean, we will attach the mulcher to the tractor as soon as the grass starts to grow higher. Lower the mulcher, turn it on and mulch row by row. Make it look nice and tidy and move on to the next step right away.
Step 3: Processing the field
Since the vines are close together, we will use a thin subsoiler for this task. We grow between vines to loosen the soil so the vines can get more water and nutrients. Maneuver the tractor with the subsoiler attached between the vines, carefully lower it into the ground and begin working one row after another.
Step 4: Fertilizing
Once the vines have reached the first stage of growth, fertilizer will improve the yield. Click on the object category in the store and buy a Big Bag or Liquid Fertilizer Tray. Then connect the sprayer to the tractor, place it next to the BigBag and press the button to fill up.
Back at the vineyard, you carefully drive between the vines, turn on the sprayer and apply fertilizer one row at a time. Instead of fertilizing twice with one intermediate growth stage, activate the sprayer’s double rate so you only need to fertilize once.
Step 5: Grape harvest
Now the fun begins – let’s harvest ripe grapes with our special grape harvester. With the activation of seasonal growth, the grapes will wither after October. Take it up to your vineyard, turn it around and turn it on. Center the combine in front of the first row. As the vines run through the center of the harvester, you can zoom in a bit to see if you’re centered. You? Then go on and press until the tank is full. Try to drive in a straight line.
Step 6: Selling the grapes
To unload the combine, drive up to the trailer facing backwards, as it is unloaded from behind. Press the button to start reloading and all harvested grapes will be unloaded into your trailer until it is full.
Now look at the price screen on the menu to see where you can get the best prices on your crop. You can also process grapes and turn them into delicious grape juice or raisins. You can sell them for even higher prices. Depending on whether you want to sell or recycle, unload at the appropriate designated location.
Step 7: Preparing for the next harvest
We have finished most of the crops so far. But with grapes, you need to do the last. You don’t need to plant new vines to grow grapes again. But you have to prune them to prepare the vines for next year so that the grapes can grow again.
Once the leaves on the vines have turned yellow, take a leaf cutter and attach it to the front of the tractor. Unfold it, turn it on and cut the leaves by carefully driving between the vines. Now everything is ready.
With that, that’s all you need to know about growing grapes in Farming Simulator 22.
