Will Touch ID return to iPhone 13?

Will the American company Apple admit the imperfection of Face ID technology and return to the fingerprint scanners that have been perfected by other companies in recent years.

Users hope Apple will return fingerprint scanners to iPhone

It was Apple that was the first smartphone maker to use Touch ID fingerprint scanners to unlock smartphones. Later, this technology became even more functional, it began to be used for user identification in contactless payments.

However, in 2017, Apple introduced Face ID, a system for identifying a user by face. This system became the reason that then there were no sub-screen fingerprint scanners, and the market already demanded frameless smartphones, so the company had to make compromises.

But just a couple of years later, fingerprint sensors began to be integrated with displays – this technology is currently perfected, so it is found in almost all flagship Android smartphones. However, Apple is in no hurry to abandon the facial recognition system, although users are clamoring for the return of Touch ID.

As shown survey editions Touch ID, nearly 33% of respondents would like to see Applevernula Touch ID in the iPhone 13. And this realization is possible. Last year, the company brought Touch ID back to the iPad Air by integrating a fingerprint scanner into the power button. Of course, such a solution is not viable for the iPhone, but you can use a sub-screen sensor. For example, the latest generation of Qualcomm’s sub-screen ultrasonic sensor, which is used in the Samsung Galaxy S21, not only shows a high level of security and fast operation, but also an increased fingerprint recognition area.

It is unlikely that Touch ID will return to the iPhone 13, but the Cupertino-based company may listen to users and add this technology in future generations.

Touch ID looks especially advantageous against the background of Face ID during the coronavirus pandemic. Face masks simply prevent the smartphone from recognizing the face of users who, because of this, have to enter a passcode. Owners of Android flagships are deprived of this problem, who can simply put their finger on the screen to unlock.
