WhatsApp for iPad without SIM

As I have already anticipated in the opening lines of this guide, there is no official WhatsApp application for iPad . However, it is possible to use the service in question on Apple tablets both by accessing WhatsApp Web (the Web version of WhatsApp accessible via a browser ), or by downloading one of the third-party applications available on the App Store (always based on WhatsApp Web) . Find everything explained in detail right below. The indications are valid for both the Wi-Fi-only models and the Cellular iPad models.

WhatsApp Web

The easiest way to use WhatsApp on iPad is to use WhatsApp Web . This service is completely free, does not require special configurations but has a major limitation: it does not allow you to receive notifications when Safari is not in use.

However, if you believe this is a valid solution to have WhatsApp on iPad , start Safari and connect to the main page of WhatsApp Web . Then take your smartphone and start the WhatsApp app .

Now, if you have an Android device , access the Chat section , press the three dots icon , at the top right, and select the Connected devices option from the opened menu. In the new screen displayed, tap on the item Connect a device and frame the QR code visible on the screen of your iPad with the camera of the smartphone in use.

If, on the other hand, you have an iPhone , select the Settings option located in the bottom menu and tap on the Connected devices item . Then press the Connect a device button , select the OK option and scan the QR code displayed on iPad with your iPhone’s camera.

Once this is done, you should view all your conversations and be able to send new messages, as long as the smartphone on which the famous messaging application is installed is on, connected to the Internet and in the vicinity of your iPad. Keep in mind, however, that it is also possible to use WhatsApp for iPad without a phone .

If you want, you can also create a link to WhatsApp Web, so you can quickly access the service and start it just like an application. To create a quick access icon, first access the Safari tab in which WhatsApp Web is open, press the arrow icon inside a square , at the top right, choose the Add to Home screen option from the opened menu and press the Add button .

By doing so, you can quickly open WhatsApp Web by pressing the newly created icon, visible on the Home screen of your iPad. In case of second thoughts, you can delete the icon in question by making a long tap on it, selecting the Delete bookmark option from the menu that appears and pressing the Delete button . To find out more, I leave you to my guide on how to create an icon on WhatsApp Web .

If, on the other hand, you want to log out of WhatsApp Web, press the three dots icon and select the Disconnect option . Alternatively, take your smartphone, start WhatsApp, access the Connected devices section , press on the session related to your iPad and tap the Disconnect button .

WhatsApp for iPad without phone

If you are wondering if it is possible to use WhatsApp for iPad without a phone , you will be glad to know that the answer is yes. In fact, the famous messaging service has a multi-device function (which, at the time of writing, is still in beta) that allows you to connect to your account up to a maximum of 4 devices at the same time , without your phone having to be near iPad and stay connected to the Internet.

To activate this feature, take your smartphone and start WhatsApp. Now, if you have an Android device , press on the Chat item , tap on the three dots icon , at the top right, and select the Connected devices option from the opened menu. On the iPhone , however, press on the Settings item located in the bottom menu and select the Connected devices option .

Once this is done, press on the Beta multi-device item and tap the Use the beta version button , to activate the multi-device function of WhatsApp. Note that if you previously connected other devices to your WhatsApp account, you will need to repeat the connection procedure for each device.

Finally, I would like to point out that, using your smartphone, you can deactivate the multi-device function at any time, by accessing the Connected devices section of WhatsApp again and pressing the Abandon beta version option . To learn more, you can take a look at my guide on how to have WhatsApp on two devices .

Other solutions for WhatsApp for iPad

WhatsApp can also be used on the iPad by resorting to the use of third-party applications available on the App Store that replicate the WhatsApp Web experience on the Apple tablet, but allowing you to access it via a separate screen from that of the browser and, in some cases, also offering notification support.

There are plenty of apps of this type, many of which are completely free but with banner ads. To find the one that best suits your needs, start the App Store by tapping its icon (the white “A” on a light blue background ), press the Search option located in the bottom menu and tap the Games, apps, stories item and much more .

Now, type ” WhatsApp ” in the appropriate search field, press the Search button , to view all the applications that allow you to use WhatsApp Web on iPad, and tap on those of your interest, in order to view their description and, above all, to read the reviews of other users.

After identifying the one that you think is the most suitable app of this kind for your needs, tap the relevant Get button and, if requested, verify your identity via Face ID, Touch ID or entering the Apple ID password.

Once the download and installation are complete, press the Open item (or the app icon on the home screen) and follow the instructions I gave you previously to access WhatsApp Web , so you can connect your WhatsApp account and view all your conversations.
