How to put the login password on Instagram

Is your intent to put the password on Instagram to prevent unauthorized access to the app? In this case, you can resort to some privacy functions of the operating system installed on your smartphone, or contact third-party apps that provide this function (even if, in reality, the first way would always be preferred).

How to put password on Instagram on Android

If you are using an Android device you may find an app blocking function directly in the operating system settings. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be very precise in my indications, as the function in question is not always present and, moreover, it can present menus structured in a different way depending on the version of Android in use.

In any case, to give you a practical example, on the smartphone model in my possession (a Huawei P40 with Android 10) the App Lock function is available which, as easily understood, allows you to block access to some of the apps installed on the phone. with the PIN set on the device or by face/fingerprint recognition (clearly, you must have activated one of these security measures in the smartphone settings first).

To use the App lock function, just go to the Android Settings menu (the gear icon located on the Home screen), select the items Security> App lock, log in by face/fingerprint recognition or by entering the PIN and operate the lever next to the app to be blocked, in this case, Instagram.

The operation is reversible at any time: just deactivate the same lever mentioned above, obviously after verifying your identity through fingerprint/face recognition or entering the unlock PIN.

If your Android device does not have a default function for blocking apps, you must use an external application dedicated to this purpose: there are several on the Play Store and on the alternative stores for the Google home operating system, however, you must knowing how to choose them carefully, since, as can be guessed, they require advanced permissions and could therefore represent high risks for privacy.

Personally, I suggest you use Norton App Lock, an app created by the software house developer of the antivirus of the same name, as well as a historical signature of the IT security sector: it is free and works with all devices equipped with Android 4.2 or later versions with support for Google services.

After downloading Norton App Lock on your smartphone or tablet (just search for it in the Play Store, select it and press the Install button ), start the app, accept the terms of use, press the OK button and give it all the permissions requested, following the instructions on the screen and activating the relative levers in the Android menus.

Once this is done, set an unlock pattern or a passcode (i.e. a numeric code, which is what I recommend you do) with which to block access to the apps you want to protect (in your case Instagram ), choose a Google account to link to Norton App Lock, so you can retrieve the set passcode in case of loss, and that’s it.

Now, to put the password on Instagram, start Norton App Lock, authenticate via passcode, pattern or fingerprint, make sure that the app lock is closed (indicating that its protection is active) and select Instagram from the list of available apps (the name of the app must be colored green).

From now on, to start Instagram on Android you will be asked to enter your passcode, unlock pattern or perform fingerprint recognition, depending on how you chose in Norton App Lock.

If you want to delete the fingerprint recognition from the unlocking systems supported by Norton App Lock, start the app, authenticate, press the ☰ button located at the top left, go to the Settings and disable the relative lever.

How to put password on Instagram on iPhone

Starting with the release of iOS 12, all iPhones have a feature that allows you to block access to apps with a PIN: it’s called Screen Time and can be found directly in the operating system settings.

The function in question is very convenient but, having been designed primarily to reduce the time of use of the smartphone and not to block access to apps for privacy reasons, it tends to allow, from time to time, the possibility of giving a ” peek “at blocked applications.

This means that, in some situations, by opening the blocked apps, it is possible to find a button that allows you to unlock the selected app for one minute: after this period of time, however, the application is blocked again and to use it is required entering the PIN.

Having made this necessary premise, let’s get down to business and see how to use it. To begin, access the iPhone settings, by pressing on the gear icon on the Home screen, go to Usage time and, if you have not done so yet, set the PIN for blocking the apps by pressing on the item Use “Usage Time” code: After entering the code twice, you will be asked to enter your Apple ID information (so that you can retrieve the code in case of loss) and that’s it.

Once the code is set, go Limitations app, press the option Add restriction of use, enter the code that you set up earlier (or you had already set previously) and check the box for Instagram in the list of apps available on your device: you can find it by expanding the Social network section.

Once this is done, click on the Next item (top right), set the app blocking time to 0 hours and 1 min (it is the minimum you can select); make sure that the lever located next to the item Block at the end of the limit is activated (otherwise activate it you); tap on the item Customize days and, if you want, choose the days of the week in which to apply the app block and which not. When finished, click on the Add button.

From this moment on, after a minute of daily use of Instagram, to access the app you will be asked to enter the PIN (if we exclude some sporadic “peek” of a minute which, as mentioned above, could be randomly granted during the course of the day).

In case of second thoughts, to unblock the use of Instagram, all you have to do is go back to the Screen time menu, enter the code, select the restriction set just now, press on the item Delete limitation (at the bottom of the screen) and give confirmation. Simple, right?

In case you were wondering, due to the “shutdown” of iOS, there are no third-party apps that allow you to put a password to applications on the iPhone.
