How to login to Gmail
You have slavishly followed my guide to create a Gmail account and at the moment you can be very satisfied. It was in fact for some time that you had in mind to create an e-mail account using the famous Google home service and now you have finally done it. At this point, it, therefore, seems only right to provide you with all the necessary explanations on how to access Gmail in such a way as to allow you to always and in any case keep your e-mail box under control via computer (therefore via a web browser or email client) and from mobile (using the official app or third-party applications).
How do you say? The thing interests you (and also a lot) but being impractical in terms of the Internet and new technologies you fear that the explanations on how to access Gmail may be too complicated for you? Well, but you have absolutely no reason to worry, really. Contrary to appearances and beyond what you might think, accessing Gmail is in fact very simple and by reading the instructions below I am sure that in the end you will agree with me.
So take a few minutes of free time, make yourself comfortable and concentrate on reading this guide. You will see that in the end you will finally have clear ideas about how to access Gmail and that if necessary you will also be ready and willing to provide all the necessary explanations to your friends in difficulty who need to receive a similar tip.
Login to Gmail via a web browser
If you are interested in understanding how to access Gmail directly from your browser, the first step you need to take is to start the program to surf the net that you usually use, connect to the main page of the service by typing https://mail.google .com / in the address bar and press the Enter button on the keyboard.
At this point, if you have already logged in to Google services with your account and with the browser in use, you do not have to do anything else, you have already managed to access Gmail from the Web, congratulations!
If, on the other hand, you have not yet logged into Google services with your account, click on the Login button located in the upper right part of the page displayed. Then fill in the empty field Enter your email by typing your Gmail email address and then click on the blue Next button. Now type the password for your Google account by putting it in the Password box and then click on the Login button. If necessary, also check the box relating to the item Stay connected if it is not your intention to have to log in every time you want to access Gmail from the web browser in use.
If you have chosen to activate two-step verification on your Google account, type the code that was sent to you via SMS to your mobile number and then click Verify. If you wish, you can also check the box relating to the item Do not ask for codes on this computer again in order to avoid having to carry out this step every time.
Once you have accessed the service via a web browser, you can finally start using your e-mail box.
To write a new email click on the Write button located at the top left, to consult the inbox click on the Inbox item always located on the left and then on the message of your interest while to reply to a message just click on the button depicting an arrow pointing to the left that you find on the right side of each email received. To access the trash, just click on the Trash item attached to the left sidebar (if you can’t see it, first click on the Other menu always located on the side). As for the drafts, presses on the item Drafts are always attached to the sidebar.
Login to Gmail via your email client
If, on the other hand, you have downloaded one of the software in my guide dedicated to programs for Gmail or any other e-mail client and you want to know how to proceed in order to access Gmail using one of these programs, know that in most of the cases there is absolutely no need to do anything except to specify, during the installation and configuration phase of the software chosen to receive and send e-mail, your willingness to use a Google account and then provide the relevant access data.
In the event that the e-mail client you have chosen to use does not include this automatic procedure, you will have to manually fill in the various forms that are proposed to you by entering the following information.
- Incoming mail server (IMAP): gmail.com, Port: 993, Requires SSL: yes.
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): gmail.com, Port: 465 or 587, Requires SSL: yes, Requires authentication: yes.
- Full name or display name:[your name]
- Account name or Username:Gmail address (e.g. name @ gmail.com ).
- E-mail address : Gmail address (e.g. name @ gmail.com ).
- Password: Gmail password.
If you need to use the POP3 protocol, these are the settings you need to use to access Gmail on your favorite email client.
- Incoming mail server (POP3): gmail.com, Port: 995, Requires SSL: yes.
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): gmail.com, Port: 465 or 587, Requires SSL: yes, Requires authentication: yes.
- Full name or display name:[your name]
- Account name or Username:Gmail address (e.g. name @ gmail.com ).
- E-mail address : Gmail address (e.g. name @ gmail.com ).
- Password: Gmail password.
Access Gmail via the official app for smartphones and tablets
Instead of a web browser, do you prefer to access Gmail from your smartphone or tablet? In this case, the first step is to download the appropriate Gmail app on your device. The Gmail application is available for iOS and Android devices (often included “standard”).
After downloading and installing the Gmail app on your device, press the application icon that has been added to the main screen of the smartphone or tablet you are using and then if you are already using a Google account on your device you will be shown a screen through which you will have to select the profile you want to use. To do this, locate your account among those in the list, turn the relevant switch to ON and then tap the End button located at the top left.
If, on the other hand, on your smartphone or tablet you are not already using a Google account, once the main screen of the Gmail app is displayed, fill in the fields displayed by putting your e-mail address and the password associated with it and confirm your willingness to want to access the service with such data by pressing the appropriate button.
In both cases, then consent to the receipt of notifications by the app by pressing the appropriate button that is shown on the screen and tap the Go to Inbox button at the bottom left.
Once this is done, within a few moments you should be able to view all your correspondence directly from the Gmail app installed on your smartphone or tablet.
To write a new email, press the pencil-shaped button located at the top right, to read the inbox, consult the main section of the app that is shown as soon as you log in while to reply to a message, just press on your email. interest and then tap on the arrow pointing to the left that you find in the upper right part of each email. If, on the other hand, you want to access the trash, press the button depicting three lines horizontally located at the top left and tap on the Trash item attached to the menu that is shown to you. To access the drafts presses the item Drafts always attached to the side menu.
Access Gmail through third-party apps for smartphones and tablets
As an alternative to the procedure I mentioned earlier, you can access Gmail from your smartphone and tablet also by using third-party apps, such as Mail on iOS or MailDroid on Android.
To access Gmail via third-party apps on smartphones and tablets, you must obviously proceed to configure the service through the application settings. Generally, the configuration procedure takes place automatically so after pressing the option to add a Gmail-type account, simply type the e-mail address, password and any two-factor authentication code and it is done.
In other cases, it is instead necessary to manually type the configuration parameters for the Google home mailbox. To do this, follow the configuration parameters that I gave you in the previous lines when I explained how to access Gmail through e-mail clients.
Once the configuration is complete, you can log in and Gmail simply by tapping on the icon of the e-mail app you use and attached to the home screen of your device.
In case of problems
If you encounter any problems using Gmail coupled with your e-mail client or a third-party smartphone and tablet app, it is most likely because the IMAP or POP protocol is not enabled for your mailbox.
To fix it immediately, access Gmail via a web browser as seen in the previous lines, click on the gear wheel icon displayed in the upper right part of your inbox and click on the Settings item in the menu that is opened.
Then, press on Forwarding and POP / IMAP located at the top and check if the IMAP or POP protocol can be enabled for the email client you have chosen to use.
In the event that the client or app for the e-mail you intend to use supports the IMAP protocol, presses the item Configuration instructions present in correspondence with the session IMAP Access: of Forwarding and POP / IMAP of Gmail and complete the configuration by following la the simple wizard that is shown to you on the screen.
If, on the other hand, the e-mail client or app that you have chosen to exploit should support the POP protocol, presses on the item Instructions for configuration present in the POP Access session: of Forwarding and POP / IMAP of Gmail and completes the configuration by following the simple wizard that is shown on the screen.
