How to deal with smartphone addiction

Smartphones have taken a central place in our lives and it’s hard for us not to use them. Not so long ago, we released an article on what happens if you turn off push notifications in WhatsApp. In our new analysis, we will reveal the problem of fabbing much more broadly – what is the danger of smartphone addiction, how is it manifested and how to get rid of this habit? There will be no ads for special applications that will forcefully limit the time of using smartphones – we have collected only those tips that do not require outside intervention and any expenses. If you have noticed for a long time that you are not letting your smartphone out of your hands and this has a detrimental effect on your condition, make yourself comfortable – we are beginning to understand this problem

How smartphone addiction arises

A smartphone is very convenient. Conveniently, when the whole world is in the palm of your hand, all the music and films. You can do whatever you want – just to catch the Internet. Sometimes it also happens that you have already enjoyed all the knowledge of mankind and just flip through the start screen – just to find a shortcut to a suitable application, rummage through the playlist in search of that very song, update the instagram feed.

Funnily enough, with the increase in screens, people’s dependence on smartphones has grown. There is logic in this: modern smartphones allow you to use several applications on one screen, therefore, the dependence on content grows significantly. Remember the times when you could use only one running application – compared to some 2008, we sat on our phones noticeably less than now. How many applications do you have running now?

Why is smartphone addiction dangerous?

Alas, this is our price for convenience and comfort. The smartphone is a source of entertainment and communication. We are so immersed in the virtual world that we forget about real life. The use of slang from correspondence is just a small of the troubles that we face: you, too, are probably tired of receiving continuous “OK” and “Norm” in response to some detailed thought.

Communication becomes dull, it becomes more difficult to speak over time, because it is easier to write in text. Even calls have become rare – in 2021, calling someone is a sign of either a very urgent matter or a gesture of despair.

It is very difficult to exist without a smartphone in our time – it has been tested on myself. But it’s quite real. Please note that our day in 9 out of 10 cases begins with a smartphone: what’s new in the world, how are acquaintances on Instagram, how was yesterday’s match – some of this is probably close to you. Imagine what would change if you didn’t check the “important” news? Nothing! Perhaps skip our articles in Yandex.Zen , in which we write about something that no one else knows about. Start your day with something more important, such as exercise or a contrast shower – develop a habit of not stopping by in the morning. Then, perhaps, the zombie through the 5G towers will not affect you.

How to opt out of a smartphone

What to do if your mood gets spoiled by the constant use of your smartphone? The recipe is impossibly simple: turn off your smartphone or turn on airplane mode for at least an hour – by my example, I can say that it helps a lot. The first ten minutes shakes: how is it that I was left without a smartphone? And then it becomes easier: lies and lies. After half an hour, you no longer feel discomfort due to the fact that you have not held the cherished gadget in your hand for a long time. And an hour later, sports interest appears: well, now I’ll endure for another 10 minutes, so as not to turn it on, but then you can. By the way, you will see that during this time you did not miss anything important. Yes, even if it is something unexpected, then after an hour of digital detox, such information becomes trifling and penny.

  • Smartphone addiction is an infection that does not require the intervention of doctors, unnecessary expenses, special medications, and even the intervention of your friends. It is really possible to understand this problem yourself.
  • First, decide, in your opinion, how much time you spend on your smartphone? To do this, you don’t even need to look into special programs – just remember how long a day you did not hold the gadget in your hands?
  • Think if your mood gets spoiled when you spend a long time on social networks or messenger, what annoys you the most: push notifications, sounds of incoming messages, incessant scrolling of the tape or constant typing on the keyboard?
  • Does it make you angry when someone asks you to take your mind off your smartphone?

If you noticed something from this list, congratulations – you know about this problem, and awareness is already better than being addicted and not noticing it.

My advice is to try starting with a little 1 hour detox in the middle of your workday. You will be productive, relaxed, and focus on important thoughts. After a while, add to this the rejection of a smartphone and social networks at the beginning and at the end of the day – you will have your own vision of what scenario your life should follow without unnecessary information, stupid stories and jaundiced news from VK. You will see that thoughts become clearer, and forgetfulness and confusion gradually disappear – it will become much more convenient to put words into sentences, and the familiar phrase “forgot what I wanted to say, flew out of my head” will go out of your everyday life.

A pandemic was declared in the wrong honor – it began a long time ago. Constant “sticking” in gadgets has long become the norm, even during personal communication. It kills in us the clarity of thought, the desire to speak, to include imagination and mindfulness. Smartphone addiction is a disease that everyone not only deals with with their own methods, but also decides whether or not they need to be treated for it.
