How to comment on a photo on Instagram

Preliminary information

Before explaining to you in detail how to comment on a photo on Instagram, I would like to point out the terms of use of the famous social network and, in particular, the behaviors not allowed in the comments.

Instagram, as indicated in the community guidelines, invites users not to post repetitive comments or content, in order to prevent spam. Furthermore, it is forbidden to repeatedly contact people for commercial purposes without their consent.

Content, messages and comments that are offensive, hate speech or that present credible threats are removed from Instagram. Even the use of offensive or derogatory language towards other users is not tolerated by the famous social network.

In this regard, all users are invited to report any content of this kind through the appropriate features, as explained in my guide on how to report an Instagram profile, in order to prevent bullying and violence in general.

In short: always be respectful towards others and do not use Instagram to obsessively advertise certain content. In addition to your reputation in the community, it also depends on the fate of your account, which in the event of violations could be suspended or even canceled. If everything is clear, let’s get down to business.

How to comment on photos on Instagram

The procedure for commenting on a photo on Instagram is quick and easy. All you have to do is access the Comments section of the photo you are interested in, enter the comment in the appropriate field and press the button to publish it.

To proceed from smartphones and tablets using the Instagram app for Android devices (also available on alternative stores ) and iOS / iPadOS, start the app in question and, if you haven’t already done so, access your account by entering the data in the fields Phone number, username or email and Password and pressing the Login button.

At this point, scroll down your account’s Feed screen until you find the photo you want to comment on. Alternatively, press the magnifying glass icon, enter the name of the person who published the photo in the Search field, select the user in question in the search results, to access his profile, and tap on the photo of your interest.

Once this is done, click on the cartoon icon located at the bottom left, under the photo. This will take you to the Comments section, where you can view any comments already published. Then enter your comment in the Add a comment field and tap on Publish to publish it.

How do you say? Would you like to comment on a photo on Instagram with a hashtag? In this case, the procedure is identical to what I just indicated to you to post a “normal” comment. After pressing the cartoon icon relating to the photo of your interest, enter your comment making sure to add the hashtag symbol (#) before the words you intend to use as a hashtag and press the Publish button. If, on the other hand, you prefer to comment on a photo on Instagram from your computer, connected to the official website of the photographic social network, enter your account data in the Phone number, username or email and Password fields and click on the Login button, to access Instagram. Alternatively, if you have registered via Facebook, you can click on the link to log in via your social account.

Now, locate the photo you want to comment by scrolling the Instagram Feed screen and press on its cartoon icon. Alternatively, enter the name of the person who published the photo in the Search field, access the profile of the user in question by clicking on his name and press on the photo you want to comment.

Either way, enter your comment in the field Add a comment, click on the face, to add any emoticon, and press on the item Post to publish your comment. Simple, right?

How to comment on Instagram Direct photos

If your intention is to comment on an Instagram photo via Direct, you should know that this feature allows you to forward the photo to a user of your interest and privately comment on the shot in question.

To do this, start the Instagram app, locate the photo you want to comment privately and tap on the paper airplane icon. In the new screen that appears, put the checkmark next to the name of the person to whom you want to forward the photo (to speed up the search, write their name in the Search field and then put the checkmark next to their name ), enter your comment in the field Write a message and press the Send button, to send the photo and your comment.

Please note that you can forward an image and your message to multiple people at the same time. In this case, put the checkmark next to the name of all the people of your interest, enter the comment in the Write a message field and press the Send button separately, to send the photo and the comment via Direct.

Similarly, you can also proceed from a computer. To do this, connect to the official Instagram site, log into your account (if you have not set automatic login) and locate the photo to comment via Direct. Then click on the paper airplane icon and, in the Suggested section, put the checkmark next to the name of the people you are interested in.

If the person to whom you want to send the photo and your comment does not appear in the list of suggested users, enter their name in the Search field, put the checkmark next to their name and click on the Send button, to forward the photo. At this point, access the Direct section of your account by pressing on the paper airplane icon, at the top right, select the message you sent just now, enter the comment on the photo in the Write a message field and click on the button Send, to also send the comment.

How to comment on photos in Stories on Instagram

If you are wondering if it is possible to comment on the photos in the Stories on Instagram, I am sorry to tell you that, at least at the time of writing this guide, there is not a function that allows you to comment publicly on the contents published in the Stories.

However, it is allowed to comment on the photo privately by sending a message to the author of the Story, as long as the author has not disabled the possibility of sending comments and reactions to the Stories. In this case, start the Instagram app, tap on the Story of your interest, enter your comment in the Send a message field and press the Send item, to send the comment privately.

Please note that the Quick Reactions function is also available in the Stories, which allows you to comment on the content of the Story with an emoticon. In this case, press on the item Send a message and tap on the emoticon you prefer, to send it directly to the author of the Story.

The procedure for commenting on a photo in Instagram Stories from a computer is almost identical to what I have just indicated for smartphones and tablets. Also in this case, after connecting to the Instagram website, all you have to do is click on the Story of your interest, click on the Reply to [name] option, enter your comment in the appropriate field and click on the Send item, to send the message privately.
