How to change your voice on Discord

Discord is a program that is popular with gamers and those who like to communicate in voice format. Sometimes, for fun or for other purposes, you want to change your voice or edit it a little, which can be done with the help of special programs. I will talk about their choice, configuration and implementation of a voice changer in Discord in the framework of this article.

Selecting a Voice Changer Program

First, you should decide on the program that you will use to change the voice in Discord. Some of them integrate with the current microphone device, while others create a virtual one with audio redirection. However, this is not so important, since the result does not change from this. The most famous representative of this kind of programs can be considered Clownfish . It’s free, easy to set up, has all the tools you need, and a large library of voices. That’s what I’ll cover in the next tutorial.

However, it is worth noting that there are a huge number of other similar programs, some even better in terms of functionality, but they are distributed for a fee. These include Voicemod . This software includes many ready-made presets and controls for manual voice tuning. Only a limited number of ready-made voices are issued to the user for free, and changing the parameters manually is not available. If this program interests you, check out the trial version and purchase the full one.

You can find any other software on your own on the net, the principle of its configuration will practically not change, except that there will be differences in some tools and the interface itself. Therefore, we boldly move on to the next stage of preparing the voice changer in Discord.

Setting up a voice changer

Perhaps the main stage of the task is setting up a program for changing the voice. Since it depends on this what effect your voice will acquire and what exactly the interlocutors in Discord will hear. This is a very subtle process that changes depending on your requirements. I’ll only show you the basics so that you have a rough idea of which controls to use and how to choose an active microphone (which is the most important).

  1. If you also chose Clownfish, after installation, find the program icon on the taskbar and click on it to bring up the context menu. With it, turn on the program and click the button “Install voice changer” . In other software of this level, you do not need to call the context menu, you will immediately find yourself in the graphics window with all the required settings.
  2. You see thumbnails and names of ready-made presets. Click on one of them to select and test. Many of these voices are controlled primarily by lowering or raising the pitch, but there are also more complex options.
  3. However, you can edit all this yourself by setting the “Pitch” value to acceptable, adjusting separately the sensitivity, bass and treble of the microphone, applying sound effects and mixing voices on different sound waves. Try to “play around” with the settings, achieving an acceptable result for yourself.
  4. Through the already familiar context menu, be sure to open “Configuration” , hover over “Microphone” and check the box for the microphone that you will use to talk in Discord.

If the program you have chosen allows you to create a voice manually, deal with this process yourself, because I simply cannot tell you about all the applications and their features. It’s usually not too difficult: adjust different sliders and use the listener to compare different effects. Once the setup is complete, move on to Discord itself.

Changing Discord Settings

It remains only to check the Discord settings, make sure that the program for changing the voice applies to this application, and connect to the voice channel where you plan to talk with other messenger participants.

  1. Opposite your profile picture, click on the gear icon to open the settings menu.
  2. In the panel on the left, find the section called “Voice and Video” .
  3. Expand the list of input devices and select the used microphone or virtual device if it was created by the installed program.
  4. Adjust the microphone volume using the dedicated slider.
  5. Be sure to use the microphone checker to listen to yourself before connecting to voice channels.
  6. If everything is fine, the program works correctly and changes your voice, connect to the server and enter one of the voice channels. You can call a friend instead if you want.
  7. Start a conversation. If necessary, turn off the sound while changing the settings in the software that is responsible for your new voice.

The implementation of the considered task has only one snag – finding a suitable program and setting it up. It is not always possible to immediately figure out which input device to choose and whether a virtual microphone has been created at all. However, when using Clownfish and Voicemod, no such problems were noticed. If you have installed another application, leave a comment with a question so that I can provide a solution to your specific problem.
