How to activate call waiting
Do your friends complain because your line is always busy every time they try to call you? Well, it is understandable: you are always on the phone and therefore being able to “catch” you when the line is free is difficult. In my opinion, to solve, or at least reduce the problem, you should activate the call waiting service.
By activating the aforementioned service on your mobile phone and / or on your landline number, you will receive acoustic signals or SMS that will notify you when someone tries to call you while your line is busy: by doing so, you can evaluate whether to interrupt the current conversation to accept the incoming call or whether to continue your chat and have the person who was trying to call you wait.
Are you wondering how much it costs to enable call waiting? Don’t worry, we are talking about a free service: all the main national operators allow you to use it at no cost. Different speech, however, applies to alerts via SMS, but we are still talking about ridiculous costs (which hardly exceed 10 euros per year). So, what do you think? Are you ready to find out how to activate call waiting and never miss any important phone calls? If your answer is yes, keep reading: find all the information you need right below.

How to activate call waiting
It is time to take action and find out how to activate call waiting through the main national telephone operators. In the next few lines, in fact, you will find all the procedures to make the aforementioned service active as regards the main Italian operators.
In addition, you will also discover how to activate it directly through the smartphone you own, without going through your manager. The procedures described can be performed both on Android devices and on iPhones , so in any case you should not have problems of any kind.
How to activate TIM call waiting
If you want to activate the call waiting service on your TIM mobile phone , open the dialer , that is the telephone number dialing screen (it should be indicated by a handset icon ), call up the keypad and dial the code *43#. Then press the button to start the call (it should be the green handset ) and wait a few moments: a message on the screen should confirm the activation of the service. Subsequently, you can verify the activation of the service by typing the code *#43#.
If you have a TIM landline , you can activate the call waiting service by requesting it at 187 (if you do not know how to speak to a TIM operator , consult my guide on the subject) and then typing the code *43#on your telephone keypad. The service is also free in this case.
Once call waiting is activated, if you receive a phone call while your line is busy, you can choose whether to put the current conversation on hold and accept the incoming call ( R2 button on the landline phone or dedicated button on the smartphone), if you want to end conversation in progress and switch to the other ( R1 button on the desk phone or dedicated button on the smartphone) or whether to send the call to the answering machine.
If you have second thoughts, however, you can disable the TIM call waiting by typing the code #43#on your smartphone or landline. More info here .
If you prefer SMS alerts to the classic call alert via acoustic signal, you can activate TIM’s LoSai and ChiamaOra service which allows you to have SMS notifications if you receive calls while your line is busy or unreachable. It also lets you know when a number that is currently not available (because it is busy or unreachable) becomes free. The service is paid, with a price of 1.59 euros per month for rechargeable customers (with a first month free for those who switch to TIM keeping their mobile number or activate a new line) and 48 cents each month with charge bimonthly of 96 cents on the invoice of the mobile line for customers with a subscription.
To activate TIM’s LoSai and ChiamaOra, call 40920 from your mobile phone and follow the instructions given in the voice guide. Alternatively, access the MyTIM Mobile service from your computer and request the activation of the service from the management panel of your line. Or, again, use the MyTIM app available for Android devices on the Play Store (or on alternative stores for all those smartphones that do not use Google services) and for iPhone on the App Store . More information on this is available on the operator’s website . In case of any second thoughts, however, find outhow to disable TIM’s LoSai by following my guide on the subject.
How to activate Vodafone call waiting
If you are a Vodafone customer , you can request the call waiting service for free (both on your mobile phone and on your landline) and, if you deem it appropriate, you can activate the receipt of SMS notifications relating to missed calls during the last 48 hours.
To activate standard call waiting on your Vodafone mobile line , open the smartphone dialer (the screen for dialing telephone numbers, usually indicated by a handset icon ), call up the keypad and enter the code *43#then press the key green as if to make a call. A confirmation message will notify you that the command has been successfully received. After that, you can check the status of the service at any time using the code *#43#.
If you have a Vodafone landline , the procedure you need to follow is practically the same: *43#dial the code on the phone keypad and that’s it. Alternatively, you can also act through the Control Panel of your Vodafone modem.
Just connect to the Control Panel web page , log in using the modem credentials (if you do it for the first time you will find the password behind your Vodafone Station next to the wording S / N ; more information here ) and, in the opened screen, press on the item Basic mode and then select the Expert user mode option from the options available.
At this point, click on the Phone item , then select the Phone number and Settings options , then move the lever to ON next to the Call waiting item and press the Apply button . Done!
Once the call waiting service is activated, if you receive phone calls while the line is busy, you can choose whether to accept or reject the incoming call; whether to temporarily or permanently interrupt the call in progress; whether to speak alternately with both interlocutors or whether to call a new number while a call is on hold using the appropriate buttons on the smartphone or the R1 and R2 keys on the desk phone. In case of second thoughts, you can disable the Vodafone call waiting for free by dialing the code #43#on your smartphone or on your landline phone (or by acting via the Control Panel as described a few lines above).
As already mentioned above, Vodafone also offers the Call me service , which allows you to receive an SMS notification of calls received during the last 48 hours while the mobile phone was busy or unreachable. The service is free and should be active on all SIM cards at the time of purchase.
If for any reason you have deactivated it, you can contact a Vodafone operator on the freephone number 42070 or access the Do it yourself area of the Vodafone website (if you do not have a Vodafone account yet, create it following my tutorial on how to register on Vodafone ), go to Promotions that you can activate and choose the option related to the Call me service .
In case you change your mind, you can deactivate the Vodafone Call Me service by contacting the operator or using the Do it yourself area of its official website.
