Preliminary information

Before starting reading this tutorial, I must first explain how you can manage not to build on Minecraft , thanks to the special mode available in the game.

First of all, you need to know that to achieve this goal you must necessarily enable the Adventure mode of Minecraft. The latter is available both on Minecraft Java Edition , available only on PC, and on Minecraft Bedrock Edition , available for Windows 10 and later, consoles and mobile devices (I explained how to download them in this tutorial of mine ).

In both of these editions, therefore, through the Adventure mode , you can make sure that the world of Minecraft cannot be changed. Therefore, not only can you prevent avatars from interacting with the Minecraft world by destroying the blocks it is made of, but you can also inhibit the addition of new items via the crafting system, thus preventing construction.

In the next chapters, therefore, I will explain how to be able to set up a Minecraft world in Adventure mode both through the appropriate command string , which can be used on any edition of Minecraft, and through the game mode selection feature available only in Minecraft Java Edition.

How not to build on Minecraft

If you want to know how not to build in Minecraft thanks to the game’s Adventure mode , what you need to do is read the instructions that I will give you in the next chapters.

Minecraft Java Edition

Adventure mode on Minecraft Java Edition can be enabled in two ways: using the appropriate command /gamemode, or using the game mode selector . So let’s see how to proceed with both methods.

To use the commands, you must first enable the relevant console in Minecraft. This can be done easily when creating the world or during any game session.

In the first case, on the main Minecraft screen, press on the Single player> Create a new world items and press on Commands , to change the wording to Yes . Finally, press on the item Create a new world to start a new game session with the command console enabled.

If, on the other hand, you have created a game session without having enabled the console, pause the game (using the Esc key ) and select the items Open in LAN> Commands , in order to change the wording to Yes . Then click on the Start the world on LAN button and that’s it!

Now, open the command console using the T key on your keyboard and type the string /gamemode adventure, followed by pressing the Enter key . By doing so, the game will switch to Adventure mode and you will no longer be able to build or destroy objects in Minecraft.

If you are in a multiplayer game with your friends, however, you can also add the @a parameter to set Adventure mode on all players ( /gamemode adventure @a), @p only on those close to your avatar ( /gamemode adventure @p) or indicate the username directly of the player (the form of the command will be )./gamemode adventure

As for the use of the game mode selector , you can do this through the debug screen . The latter, although always accessible in Minecraft Java Edition, does not allow the execution of all the features it is equipped with, unless the command console is enabled .

Therefore, what you need to do is enable this console following the same procedures that I have extensively told you about in the previous paragraphs. In case, however, you want to learn more about this topic, I recommend reading this tutorial of mine .

After activating the command console, during the game session, holding down the F3 key , also presses the F4 key on the keyboard. By doing so, you will be shown the game mode selector via a small box in the center of the screen.

Always keeping the F3 key pressed , keep pressing the F4 key , in order to scroll through the different game modes present in Minecraft: Creative , Survival , Adventure and Spectator . Then highlight Adventure mode and release the F3 key to confirm your selection. A message on the screen will confirm the transition to the required mode! Convenient, right?

When you have switched to Adventure mode, you can always return to the previous one, using the command /gamemode creative(for Creative mode ) or /gamemode survival(for Survival mode ) or by pressing the combination F3 + F4 to select a mode from those listed in the mode selection box of game.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition

If you are playing Minecraft Bedrock Edition , you can easily set Adventure mode in the game world, but enable the cheats first.

To do this, start Minecraft Bedrock Edition , press the Play button and select the items Create new> Create new world from the menu that opens. In the screen that is shown to you, make sure that the switch next to the word Activate cheats (in the Game tab ) is set to ON .

If you are in a previously created game session, pause the game, select Settings> Game and make sure that the switch next to Activate cheats is set to ON .

Now, in the game session, press the T key or the balloon icon at the top to open the game chat. At this point, type the command /gamemode adventureor /gamemode aor /gamemode 2, followed by pressing the Enter key , to set the Adventure mode.

In case you are in multiplayer mode, add the @a parameter to the command string to apply Adventure mode on all players ( /gamemode 2 @a), @p on those close to your avatar ( /gamemode a @p) or indicate the player’s username ( ) ./gamemode adventure

To return to the previous game mode, use the command /gamemode survival( /gamemode 0or /gamemode s) for Survival mode , or use the command /gamemode creative( /gamemode 1or /gamemode c) for Creative mode .
