After registering your Steam account, go back to the official website of this platform , in order to download the relevant desktop client, by pressing the Install Steam button located at the top right. In the new section to which you are directed, press the Install Steam button , in order to download the installation file.

On Windows , then double-click on the .exe file obtained and, in the screen that appears, click on Yes , Next (twice in a row), Install and Finish , to complete the setup. If you have a Mac , however, double-click on the .dmg file you downloaded and drag the Steam icon to the MacOS Applications folder .

At this point, start Steam via its quick launch icon and log in to the service, using the credentials of the previously created account. Once this is done, you will find yourself in the main Steam screen, through which you can navigate the virtual store, download the games activated on your account and interact with the community.

To download the free games, click on the Shop tab , at the top left, and press on the item Highlights , in the box that is shown to you. Using the sidebar, locate the Browse by genre section and click on the Free-to-Play wording .

If you have followed the instructions I have given you to the letter, you will be sent back to a section where you can view all the free video games in the Steam catalog, which you can easily play on your PC by clicking on the product name and pressing the Start Game button . You will be shown a box through which you can install the game on your computer, simply by pressing the Next button and then Finish .

GOG (Windows / macOS)

GOG is the platform developed by CD Projekt , a software house famous above all for developing the video games of The Witcher saga . Through this digital service, you can purchase DRM-Free games, i.e. video games for which no anti-piracy protection or other digital restriction has been applied.

In addition to the main catalog consisting of paid video games, it is also possible to download completely free titles: demos are available, that is, trial versions, but also complete video games.

What you need to do to use GOG is to first create a free account on this service. First, then go to the official GOG website and select the items at the top Sign In> Create account . Once this is done, enter a username , your e-mail address and a password to be associated with the account you are about to create.

Finally, accept the terms of service, placing a check mark in the appropriate boxes located at the bottom, and press the Sign up now button . You can also register for GOG through your Facebook account by clicking on the appropriate button.

Once this is done, the automatic login to the GOG platform will be performed. To download a free video game, click on the Store tab and use the options on the sidebar to select the Free item , in the Price section .

Now, locate the game you want to download and click on it. In the card that is shown to you, click on the Add to cart button , to insert the video game into the virtual cart. Although the game is free, this is essential to activate the product on your account.

Therefore, reach the cart by clicking on its icon located at the top right, and then press the Go to Checkout button . Then click on the Pay for Your Order Now button to activate the game on your account.

To download the video game, then move the mouse pointer over your username , at the top, and select the Games tab , in the box that is shown to you. Then locate the game you just activated and click on the ▼ icon , which is shown to you when you move the mouse pointer over its thumbnail.

In the menu that is shown to you, press the View Downloads button and click the Download and Install Now button , to download the installation file, through which you can install the game in question on your PC.

The procedure I have indicated to you allows you to manually download and install the video games you own in the GOG library. However, you can speed up this operation by downloading the GOG Galaxy client ( Windows / macOS ), which will contain the entire library of active games on your account. However, it is not an essential operation, it is up to you to choose to use a single client to manage the installations or proceed manually from time to time.

Other services to download free games for PC

In addition to the services I told you about in the previous chapters, there are other platforms where you can download free games for your computer. In the next few lines, I’ll show you some that might be right for you.

• Microsoft Store(Windows 10) – as you well know, Windows 10 is equipped with a virtual store, through which you can download apps and video games. As for the latter, a database consisting of both free and paid games is available.
• Mac App Store(macOS) – if you own a Mac, through the special virtual store, the Mac App Store, you can download apps and video games both for a fee and completely free of charge.
• Epic Games Store( Windows / macOS ) – Epic Games, famous for the Fortnite video game , has created its own digital store, similar to Steam, to distribute both free and paid video games. Through the weekly program, it is also possible to redeem paid video games in a completely free way.
• net( Windows / macOS ) – Activision, through its Battle.net service, offers a desktop client for downloading free and paid games. There is not a huge selection, but you will certainly find some free products to spend some of your free time.

The games you find on Kongretate require the use of Flash Player , which you will then have to activate in your browser or download, if it is not present on your PC. Other games, on the other hand, you can run them without the need for any add-on, as they are developed in HTML5 .

That said, to play a video game on Kongregate , go to its official website and, in the top menu, select the Games item , then click on one of the entries relating to the genres . When you have found the one you would like to play, click on its thumbnail and wait for the game to load.
