Are you a big fishing enthusiast and your heart will cry when work or other commitments do not allow you to leave the house and exercise your favorite pastime? Perhaps you will be comforted by the fact that there are many beautiful online games that allow you to simulate fishing in a nice and fun way at no cost.

To better understand what I’m talking about, take five minutes of free time and take a look at the list of fishing games below. Even if you are not a fan of video games, I bet you will like them a lot. On the other hand, there are titles really suitable for all tastes: from the simplest ones to play directly from the browser (perhaps challenging your Facebook friends) to the more realistic ones that have stunning graphics and therefore require a real installation on the computer. .

And how can we forget about smartphones? By now everyone has one, and it seems fair to take a look at the fishing video games developed for the latter too. I bet you will be surprised by the completeness and graphic quality of some of these “games”, especially since most of them can be downloaded and used without spending a cent.

Fishing Planet (Windows / Mac)

The first fishing game that I recommend you to try is Fishing Planet for Windows and Mac OS X. It is a free-to-play title available on Steam characterized by 3D graphics with attention to the smallest details and extremely relaxing gameplay. Like all free-to-play titles, it can be used for free without time limits but includes elements that can only be unlocked through in-app purchases.

To download the game on your PC, connect to the Steam page that hosts it and click on the Start game button  . At this point, if you already have Steam installed on your PC, click on  Yes, Steam is installed  and start the download of the game in your library by pressing Next, Accept, Next and Finish in sequence.

If you do not yet have Steam on your computer, click on the No button , I have to download it  and start the program download by pressing the Install Steam now  button  on the page that opens. When the download is complete, start the SteamSetup.exe file   and click first on  Yes  and then on  Next . Then put the check mark next to the item  I accept the license agreement  and complete the setup by first clicking on  Next  twice consecutively and then on  Install  and  Finish .

At this point, wait for all the components necessary to run Steam to be downloaded from the Internet (about 113MB), click the  Create a new account button  and accept the terms of use of the service to create your personal account. After this step too, go back to the Steam website, click on the Start game button on the  Fishing Planet page and wait for the game to be downloaded to your computer (that’s 1.4GB of data, so it could take a long time).

At the end of the installation, go  to the Steam library  , select  Fishing Planet from the left sidebar and click on the Play button  to start the game. Then wait for the login screen to appear and create a new account to use in the game by filling out the form that is proposed to you.

When the operation is complete, press the Join button  , wait a few seconds for the game to load and… start having fun! The commands to use are quite intuitive: with the directional arrows of the keyboard and with the classic WASD keys you move the character, with the left click you throw the fishing rod into the water, with the mouse you move it, while with the right click (or with the continuous pressure of the left click) you pull it up. To view the complete list of commands (the same that is displayed when the game is first started) press the F1 key on the PC keyboard.

Note: to run Fishing Planet you need a computer with a minimum requirement of 4GB of RAM, a 2.4 Ghz Dual-Core processor and an Intel HD4600 graphics card. If your PC is not powerful enough the game will unfortunately not work.

Go Fishing (online)

If you don’t feel like installing new software on your PC, you can try your hand at online games that allow you to “fish” directly from the browser. One of the most popular of the moment is Go Fishing which you can start directly from Facebook by clicking on the Play Now button  . It works with any browser (as long as the Flash Player plugin is on the PC) and does not require particularly advanced hardware features. This is a free-to-play title, so it’s free but requires the purchase of some items to use in the game for real money.

To play Go Fishing, all you have to do is click on the Cast button  located at the bottom right, wait for some fish to bite and pull the fishing rod back by pressing the Strike button  . You will then have to hold the Pull button   and catch the fish before it escapes. To do this, you will have to advance the bar that appears on the screen by pressing Pull  without it turning red, therefore without advancing it too much. It’s easier to play with than to explain, believe me!

Fishing Paradise 3D (Online / Android / iOS)

If you are looking for fishing games that are a bit more demanding and with attention to graphics, I suggest you try Fishing Paradise 3D which is available directly online (on Facebook). To run it you need to have the free Unity Web Player plugin installed on your PC, which is available for Windows and OS X and works with all major web browsers.

Once Unity installation is complete, connect to this Facebook page and click on the Play now button to start having fun (of course you must be registered to the social network to play). As you will see, this game has beautiful 3D graphics and quite challenging gameplay in which you have to pay attention to the tension bars of the fishing rod and try to catch as many fish as possible.

To cast the fishing rod, click on the Cast button  located at the bottom left, then click on the  reel that appears at the bottom right to adjust the line tension and click again on the button located at the bottom left to discover the result of your fishing activity.

You can buy new equipment and repair items that can be broken during the game using virtual coins. These coins can be earned by catching fish and reselling them or by winning bonuses that are made available to all players on a daily basis.

Fishing Paradise 3D is also available for  Android , iPhone and iPad , where it manages to maintain the same level of quality and ensures the same degree of fun as its desktop counterpart. This is a free-to-play title, so it’s free to download but includes extra components to unlock through in-app purchases.

Let’s Fish (Online / Android / iOS)

Among the  fishing games  that you absolutely cannot miss the opportunity to try there is also  Let’s Fish  which works directly from the browser and is characterized by good graphics with realistic landscapes. It includes over 300 different species of fish and sea creatures that can be fished. To start playing, connect to the Let’s Fish website and decide whether to create a free account using your email address or to authenticate yourself with your Facebook account data.

In the first case you have to fill in the registration form   located at the top left with username, password and email and click on  Play for free ; in the second you have to click on the Connect with Facebook button   located at the top right and authorize the game to access your profile information. Once the operation is complete, remember to authenticate your identity by clicking on the confirmation link received via email.

Since everything is explained in Italian, you will have no problem understanding how Let’s Fish works. The only thing you need to do is to follow the initial tutorial carefully and proceed accordingly. Also this title includes a series of items that can be purchased with virtual coins that can be conquered during the games.

Let’s Fish is also available as a free-to-play application for Android and iPhone / iPad . In this way you can continue your career as a virtual fisherman even on the move!

Other online fishing games

We conclude with  fishing games suitable for everyone, ideal for spending time in breaks from work or study. I am referring to the Flash titles that you can find on Y8.com which despite having the same theme as a minimum common denominator are different from each other. In short, do not expect realistic simulations but rather nice pastimes that can combine fishing with puzzle-game elements, with cartoon characters or with other original ideas.

To play any of the games on Y8 all you have to do is click on its preview image and wait a few seconds for it to load. You don’t need to install any software or any particular plugin on your PC, just use any browser with Flash Player support . You can sort the list of titles based on the vote received by users or the date of addition on the site using the drop-down menu located at the top left.

Another site that offers very interesting fishing games is Kongregate , which works in a very similar way to Y8. To start a game, all you have to do is click on its thumbnail and wait a few seconds for the Flash Player to load.

Other fishing games for smartphones and tablets

As for smartphones and tablets, I advise you to give a chance to a couple of titles that might interest you a lot.

• Fishing Superstarsfor Android and iOS is a free-to-play fishing game that allows you to challenge other users to achieve certain goals. It has extremely well done cartoon graphics and allows you to customize your character in a meticulous way. It includes many items that can only be unlocked by spending virtual coins or taking them directly with in-app purchases.
• iFishingis a title for Android , iOS  and Windows Phone available in two versions, a free “lite” and a full paid one. The title is characterized by very accurate graphics with realistic scenarios and many different species of fish available for capture. It manages to be quite simulation without becoming frustrating. The full version costs 2.99 euros on iOS, 2.10 euros on Android and 2.99 euros on Windows Phone (where the lite version is currently missing).
