If you’re looking for a more complete – and even better looking – Spider Solitaire than the one in Windows, I highly recommend downloading Free Spider Solitaire . It is a free game that includes five different types of Spider: Rouge et Noir, Simple Simon, Spider Four Suits (Spider), Spider One Suit and Spider Two Suits, all enclosed in an extremely attractive graphics, with decks of cards and customizable backgrounds.

In an article dedicated to how to download Spider Solitaire for free it is practically impossible not to mention Microsoft Solitaire Collection , the modern version of  Microsoft’s solitaire designed specifically for Windows 8 / 8.1 and Windows 10 (on which in some cases it is also pre-installed) . To be more precise, this is a collection of solitaire games that includes the classic Klondike, FreeCell, TriPeaks, Pyramid and, of course, Spider too. It is free (but offers non-mandatory in-app purchases to unlock extra features), has been excellently made from a graphic point of view, allows you to synchronize scores on multiple devices and supports Xbox Live. In short, what more do you want?

To use it, connect to the dedicated web page of the Microsoft Store Online and click on the Get it now button . In the Microsoft Store window that will subsequently open on the desktop, press the button to download the game and wait for the download and installation procedure to be completed, then click the Play button to start playing immediately.

Once the Microsoft Solitaire Collection window is displayed on the desktop, click on the Spider item to immediately start a game of the famous solitaire. Then choose how many seeds to play with from the drop-down menu that appears, indicate the difficulty level of the game you prefer, check the Remember my choice box at the bottom if you want to make sure that what you have just set remains in the memory in the game and click on the Play button .

You will therefore be offered a short game tutorial (which if you want you can skip by pressing on Exit and which you can choose not to display by checking the relevant box in advance) after which you can finally start your game. In the center of the window is the game table, while in the upper part you will find the time elapsed since the start of the game and the accumulated points.

If you want to change the graphic theme used, click on the button with the three lines horizontally located at the top left, select Themes from the menu that opens and then choose, after clicking on the relative buttons, whether to change the background, the back of the cards , the deck and the effects. If you want, you can also add photos of your choice to the cards. There are also a whole series of ready-made additional themes, you can always find them on the same screen (some need to be downloaded first).

If instead you want to intervene on the game options, always click on the button with the three lines horizontally located in the upper left part of the screen, select Options from the menu and then intervene on the settings attached to the window that will open. You can adjust the level of sound effects, music, you can choose whether to display an animation at the end of the game etc.

250+ Solitaires (Mac)

Do you use a Mac? Then you can find good Spider Solitaire in 250+ Solitaires . As its name suggests quite easily, it is a free collection comprising over 250 solitaire cards, including Spider.

To download it on your Apple-branded computer, connect to the dedicated web page of the Mac App Store online and click on the View button in the Mac App Store . In the Mac App Store window that appears on your desktop, click on the Get / Install the app button on the left and if required, type your Apple ID password to start downloading and then installing the app.

Then start the game by clicking on the Open button that appeared to replace the one previously available for download. Once 250+ Solitaires is running, you will find Spider in the All games menu with the name of Spider (the Italian translation of the application is not the best, I must say). Select it and then click on the Play button to start playing.

You will then be shown the game table in the central part of the window. On the left, however, there is the toolbar through which you can undo or redo a move, start a new game, view the statistics and perform various other operations.

If, on the other hand, you want to access the game settings, press the More button that you always find in the left part of the 250+ Solitaires window and choose Options from the menu that appears. Through the window that you will see appear on the screen you can choose a different background for the game table, the back of the cards you prefer, you can choose whether or not to enable animations and more.

Spider Solitaire (Online)

Don’t feel like installing new programs on your computer? In this case, I am happy to inform you that you can also play Spider directly online, using the web browser, by visiting  Spider Solitaire . In this way, therefore, can have fun at no cost with the famous solitaire variant without having to download anything on your PC or Mac. The only thing to be taken into account is that operation requires the Flash Player installed on your computer (for more info, you can refer to my tutorial dedicated to how to install Flash Player ). Alternatively, you can use a browser that integrates it “as standard” (eg Chrome ).

To start a game, all you have to do is connect to the game’s website , click on the START item twice in a row and choose between the variants with 1 suit, 2 seeds or 4 seeds.

To view the total score, just take a look at the Score section : which you find at the bottom of the screen. If, on the other hand, you want to modify the game settings, click on the icon with the gear that is always at the bottom. From the window that will open you can adjust the volume of music and sound effects and choose whether to play in full screen mode or not.

As an alternative to the aforementioned online solitaire, you can rely on Solitr.com . This is another portal on which you can play Spider Solitaire for free by acting directly from the web browser, without having to download and install anything on your computer. Graphically it is decidedly less attractive than the aforementioned solution but to its advantage it has the fact that it does not require Flash Player.

To start playing, connect to the solitaire website and a new game will start automatically. Find the game table in the middle of the page. If, on the other hand, you want to cancel a move made, press the Undo button at the top right, while to start a new game press on the New Game item at the top left.

If you want to view the calculation of the score, click on the Options item at the top and through the menu that appears enable the switch that you find under the word Display score? . I also point out that from the same menu you can set the level of difficulty of the game by choosing between easy (easy), medium (medium) and hard (difficult), just click on the appropriate buttons.
