Preliminary information
Before explaining how to make Tumblr schemes, it is good to clarify what we are talking about and how to proceed to achieve the purpose you have in mind.
You must, in fact, know that there is no specific app or online tool to make a Tumblr scheme since it is not a real style, but a term coined by the users of this famous social network based on “blog concentrate “.
The “Tumblr style” applied to the creation of patterns generally consists in the creation of patterns that are appealing from an aesthetic point of view, through, for example, the use of particular rounded fonts or the use of pastel colors.
In short, since there are no reference guidelines relating to the “Tumblr style”, all I can do is recommend some apps and some online services dedicated to the creation of patterns, suggesting for each of these the use of features that allow the creation of aesthetically appealing schemes.
App for making Tumblr patterns
If you want advice on using Tumblr pattern-making apps, check out the solutions listed below. I’m sure they will satisfy you.
SimpleMind (Android / iOS / iPadOS)
One of the apps I recommend you use to make Tumblr-style patterns is SimpleMind, a free solution for Android and iOS / iPadOS that allows you to create patterns and concept maps and customize them in various ways.
This app is characterized by its linear user interface, as well as by the presence of numerous predefined templates, some of which are characterized by pastel colors, which recall the Tumblr style.
SimpleMind is basically free, but some of its more advanced features (such as the ability to insert images and photos in concept maps, as well as the tool that allows you to save the diagrams in the cloud) are paid. The Pro version of the app costs 8.49 euros on Android and 10.99 euros on iOS / iPadOS.
That said, after downloading the app on your Android smartphone or tablet (via the Play Store or from alternative stores ) or on iOS / iPadOS (via the App Store ), start it by pressing on its icon located on the home screen and/or in the application menu.
Press, therefore, on the (+) button and tap on the New mind map item. Then press the palette icon to choose a template from the predefined ones: for a Tumblr style scheme I suggest you use the Pastel colors style sheet or the one called Colored circles.
Once this is done, start creating the scheme by typing in the text box that is shown to you, the name of the main node. Then press the button (+) or the button (*) to add a new branch each time and, therefore, a new node to the diagram. If you make a mistake, click on the trash can icon to delete the added node and then to do it all over again.
Furthermore, to make the scheme ordered, click on the icon (…) , then on the button representing the branching and choose the Horizontal style item. Finally, hit the Apply button to apply the setting.
Mindomo (Android / iOS / iPadOS)
Another useful app for making Tumblr- style patterns is definitely Mindomo: a free solution available for Android and iOS / iPadOS. I choose to recommend it due to the presence of numerous templates which can be used to create aesthetically appealing conceptual diagrams and maps.
Therefore, after downloading this app on your Android smartphone or tablet (via the Play Store or from alternative stores ) or on iOS / iPadOS (via the App Store ), start it, press the (+) button and choose to create a mind map using a predefined template ( Choose a template ); for a Tumblr-style scheme, use a colorful and original theme, such as the Energy and About Me themes: both characterized by pastel colors and smooth lines.
Once this is done, start customizing it, by tapping on the added nodes and then on the pencil-shaped icon, to insert text. To add new nodes, click on the branch icons located in the lower right corner.
Other customizations useful to make the scheme aesthetically appealing can be applied by pressing on the added node and then on the icon (…), in order to access the panel that allows you to change the layout, the color but also the font: for example you can use the _Tipewriter font, which simulates handwriting.
At the end of the creation of the scheme, press the icon (…) and then tap on the Export PDF item, if you want to export the scheme created in a single PDF file.
Sites for making Tumblr patterns
To make Tumblr-style patterns you can also use some online services suitable for the purpose. Here are some tips on this.
MindMeister
MindMeister is a site that I recommend you use to make Tumblr-style patterns given its ample possibilities to customize the creation of a pattern through the use of numerous fonts, colors and line styles.
The service in question is free, requires registration and allows you to create up to three concept maps. For unlimited use and to have access to additional features, such as additional customizable styles and themes, you need to pay a subscription with prices starting at € 4.99 per month.
To proceed, then connect to the official MindMeister website and press the Subscribe button, in order to create a profile through your Google account, your Facebook account or your email address.
After logging in to the service, press the (+) button and choose whether to create a new mind map from scratch or to use one of the predefined templates, such as the Organization chart or Aligned templates.
Once this is done, start creating your scheme using the (+) button and the icon with the speech bubbles and the arrow, in order to add the names and insert links between the added nodes. To change the text of the nodes click on them, while to change the aesthetic elements (eg the font ) click on the word Customize.
To create a pattern that is as close as possible to a Tumblr style, use rounded fonts, such as Gloria Hallelujah, and apply a rounded style to the nodes created.
Finally, after having also changed the background and border color of a node, press the OK button to save the changes. If you make a mistake, press the left arrow icon to undo your changes.
At the end of the creation of the scheme, you can save it on your computer, by pressing the icon in the shape of a speech bubble with the down arrow, in order to select the export to PDF and confirm the operation, using the Export button.
Draw.io
To create aesthetically appealing schemes you can also use the Draw.io website, which offers a wide range of elements for the creation of schemes and organization charts to be customized in every detail.
To start, then connected to the service home page and choose whether to save the diagram on your computer ( Device ) or if you want to upload it to the cloud storage service ( Google Drive or OneDrive ). Then click on Create New Diagram, to start the creation, taking care to select the Italian language from the menu with the icon in the shape of a globe.
Once this is done, start creating your diagram using the tools available in the side menu: for example in the General menu I suggest you use rounded icons such as Circle or Ellipse, or those such as the cloud icon ( Cloud ) or the cartoon ( Callout ).
Then drag the elements to add to the central editor and use the buttons dedicated to customization that you find in the right menu: the Style tab allows you to add and change the color (I recommend using light colors), while the Text tab allows you to change the font.
To create the arrows of the diagrams, use the icons present in the homonymous section on the left, giving completely space to your creativity. If you make a mistake, you can undo the last operation using the Undo key (the arrow icon to the left ).
Finally, to save the created scheme, click on the wording Click here to save, in order to download the file to your computer via the Download button.
